Clonmore player (no.6?) lands a big hit on young Ogs forward (didn't see it so don't know if it was legal/illegal). Ogs player lying down on ground receiving treatment.

The first gentleman took exception to this, started shouting to him to get  the f**k up etc.

The second gentleman, behind him, took exception to that and branded the Clonmore no.6 a gypsy.

The first gentleman did not hear clearly, and asked the second gentleman to repeat himself.

Second gentleman repeated himself.

Third gentleman throws first dig towards gentleman number two, melee ensues between 1,3 and 2; a few women and children in immediate vicinity become visibly distressed, (especially women sat along with gentleman 2) small bit of blood discharged from gentleman 2, incident is swiftly dealt with by stewards and is cleared within minutes.

Unsavoury scenes though it has to be said that neither gentleman 1 or 2 are from Clonmore or Éire Óg (Blackwatertown and Glenavy actually - big rivalry that); though I cannot comment as to who gentleman 3's  club may be.
Lets hope that those involved are not allowed back into the stadium or any GAA ground.

GAA Discussion / Re: Tyrone v Wicklow/Armagh

unfortunately the end of the road for a few Tyrone players will be upon them shortly.  Tyrone need a new impetus and next year they may get that.  But provided there is a result this Saturday either Wicklow or Armagh will bring Tyrones run to an end - thus ending one of the greatest teams in recent times run in the championship.  Armagh will put Micko into retirement and Tyrone to the sword within 8 days - what a great time to be an orangeman  ;D

at least the season ticket will get us in.  I hope that its a great game, played in the right spirit and two great sets of supporters supporting their team - just like last week.
Championship fever is upon us all

In advance of this game I think it can be safely said that Armagh are looking forward to hosting Dublin - their team and fans.
For those supporters travelling from Dublin my advice would be that there are two main ways into the city.
You can travel up via Newry and down to Armagh but you'd be going near Newry around 5pm(ish) and lots of traffic.
My advice would be to get off at Ardee and head for Carrickmacross, Castleblayney, Keady and then Armagh.  When you come into Armagh, and I'll assume you'll be up early, from the Keady side the new Athletic Grounds will be on your left past McAnerneys supermarket.  If you can turn around and park back out the road you came in on if your planning on heading back down the road.
For food etc... the Hotel does decent food and is about a 4-5 minute lazy walk to the pitch.  There are great pubs nearby and you will all be made very welcome.
If sight seeing - the two Cathedrals are easily accessible as well as Navan Fort which are all signposted.
Euro is accepted very easily (notes in particular) and the rate is usually displayed.
Shopping for the ladies - basically don't bother - there is f*ck all in Armagh.  Some good sport shops and coffee houses but thats it.
From what I can gather there will be loads of stewards about, the Artane Boys Band will be there as well as dignataries.
And as much as we hope to make you all welcome we don't want to give you two points so you'll pardon us if we don't hand them over too easily.  Gates are to open from 6:30pm but I'd guess it'll be a little earlier.
Safe driving down as it is a great road all the way down until you come across the border as the road network is slightly behind.

Junior Final. Is it true that Peter Rafferty is manager of Tullysarron and he has 2 sons playing for Grange.

Aye hes been managing them for past 2 years. Gonna be strange for a genuine Grange man through and through, although his influence tomorrow could be minmial as tullysarran will hammer them off the pitch! Been talking to few boys who know Junior football and say it could be embarrassing

Tullysarran boys must have been reading this,

Grange beat them by 4 points today in the junior final,

Some win for them boys

and here in lies the issues with championship football in Armagh - Tullysaran will be playing 2nd division football next year and still in the Junior - Grange may not get promoted (looks like they will though) and could be playing intermediate championship from the 4th

I think you'll find that if you read the rules on Hearings and appeals that if a referee makes a mistake in his match report the CCC can refer back to the referee for clarification.  I'd suspect that St Pats had other information to use - video, witness's etc...  I wouldn't get hung up on the issue of shirt numbers.  If you recall a few years ago rules were changed to avoid court actions - the DRA arrived and rules were made flexible to avoid court actions.  I'm sure it'll come out eventually.

Great game in prospect - great atmosphere.  We'll be parking from the Shambles, swimming pool, newtown turnoff, stonebridge and walking in.  The city will be buzzing.  Both teams playing Div 1 football, both teams with agendas set.  Both teams trying to get the best from what they have - new players coming through.  Both teams knowing that with a bit of luck and hard work reaching the All-Ireland final can be achieved.
Season Tickets will be renewed - home draw in championship and 5 home league games (I know its four but we don't have far to travel for one away game) and two nice away match's in Mayo and Cork.  At 75 euro its a bargain.

Clones is a great place to watch a match with its natural ampitheatre - but the town is a kip - there ain't enough facilities such as toilets at that place and it can be difficult to get out of the town if you don't know the backroads out :-X

However to do up Casement Park needs some investigation.

First of all £50m is far too much to do up Casement - to make it 40,000 all seater would cost in the region of £25-30m.  Where does the rest of the monies go or where is it allowed to go?  Personally I'd like to see grants becoming available to normal clubs around the counties to allow them to finish of projects at their own grounds - a new pitch, parking, scoreboards etc.....

One of the main issues I have with Casement is parking itself.  Where will everyone park?  The slip road of the M1 can not cope and leads to tailbacks.  Of course you can go on ahead and come back on yourself but all-in-alll parking is the major concern I'd have.

Personally I thought the maze project was a better option for all sports.  A museum reflecting the past and a new stadium reflecting the future for all people.  It would have been a great legacy for the future but small mindedness from a few people can still over-rule the wishes of the many.
The maze project would have had huge car parking, great facilities, easy access for all, a fantastic new stadium that could have been shared by all.

Our National League fixtures for the year. 4 home games which should hopefully increase our chances of staying up if you ignore our pitiful record at the Atheltic Grounds in 2009. Trips to Cork, Mayo and them across the Newry Canal.

NFL Round 1

Sat Feb 5th: Division 1: Armagh v Dublin;

Sun 20 Feb: NFL Div 1 (Rd 2) (2.30):  Armagh v Monaghan

Sat 26 Feb:  NFL Div 1 (Rd 3) (7.30): Down v Armagh

Sun 13 March:  NFL Div 1 (Rd 4) (2.30): Mayo v Armagh,

Sunday March 20  NFL Div 1 (Rd 5) (2.30): Armagh v Kerry,

Sunday  April 3   NFL Div 1 (Rd 6) (2.30): Armagh v Galway

Sunday  April  10   NFL Div 1 (Rd 7) (2.30): Cork v Armagh
where did these fixtures come from?  Not doubting you for one minute - great set of fixtures - but just checking   :-\

GAA Discussion / Re: Eoin Bradley's amended sentence

Heres the ruling:

Category IV
M inor physical interference with (e.g. laying
a hand on, pushing, pulling or jostling),
threatening or abusive conduct towards, or
threatening language to, a Referee, Umpire,
Linesman or Sideline Official.
Penalty:
(i) M inimum: 12 weeks Suspension in all Codes
and at all Levels;
(ii) M inimum on Repeat Infraction: 24 weeks
Suspension in all Codes and at all Levels.

Category V
Any type of assault on a Referee, Umpire,
Linesman or Sideline Official.
Penalty:
(i) M inimum: 48 weeks Suspension in all Codes
and at all Levels, with offender's Team liable
to Disqualification, where appropriate;
(ii) Repeat Infraction within 96 weeks: 96 weeks
Suspension in all Codes and at all Levels, with
offender's Team liable to Disqualification,

So it depends on his argument - remember when a suspension is handed out the player has three days to accept or to appeal.
