County finals week ahead

Dromara to win v Auglisnafin with ease winning the double this year.
Drumgath to win the intermediate v Banbridge in a final that two teams are well versed with each other
Burren to come up short again v Kilcoo. I think the gap is closing but Kilcoo have the know how and can mix their game up to suit the opposition best in the county.

Congratulations to Kilcoo on winning the All County division one title this evening. Winning a league over 18 games is no accident so fair play.
They are as usual the front runners for the upcoming championship - with Carryduff hot on their tails.
The element of surprise in the championship is gone until round 3 at least  - but it's still a fantastic structure to look forward to.

Looking very likely that Bryansford despite their dominance in most games this year will now not get promoted from division 2. Saul and Downpatrick are both in the driving seat and remaining fixtures look favourable.
What has happened in Mayobridge? Managers gone mid season?

Double round of league fixtures to enjoy this week. Preparation for championship begins now the county are done. It's the best part of the season by far, teams get stronger and closer to their starting 15 for championship - quality of games gets better.. Laverty would do well not to be standing on a sideline and actually be out scouting for new players for Division 2 and a tilt at Sam next year.

Referees have a very difficult job and we have a severe shortage of them.. when a referee asks management to calm their players down and the players don't react appropriately  - he is dead right to walk off the pitch. It's called having respect and the teams clearly had very little to none for each other and for the person in charge of officiating the game..

Am I right?

Island had a club wedding - we were on to get this game rescheduled from tonight for weeks. Couple of 1sts available to play but Fielded majority of the 2nds team to play Bredaghs 1sts.

Bredagh aren't obliged to change to suit another club & obviously they saw this as an opportunity to pick up a couple of much needed points but it goes against the ethos of the association.

Efforts should be made to accommodate other teams where possible.

Have heard the club agreed to switch the game but the outside paid management team were against it.
Poor leadership from the club committee & looks like the tail wagging the dog!

Why shud efforts be made? I know a club that wasn't change a few years ago as it didn't fit in with their training schedule. Graveyard mass, confirmations etc are all accommodated - why start with weddings. Games wud never be completed...

What a fantastic podcast with wee Pete. A legend of the game and a very clear thinker.

An even better result tonight v Mayobridge though. Joe Magee playing the football of his life..

Quote from: downtothecore on May 18, 2024, 08:23:06 PMGreat win for the u20s. Although it was B competition it was competitive championship and these lads and management showed a bit of quality to win it and there is definitely a few names which would be good enough for the senior grade in a couple of years.

What a result and display.. guts and intelligence throughout and didn't panic when they went behind early in the game. Congrats to team and management. Let's hope we get a good few of these lads through to seniors.

Some result tonight in St Mary's park.. lads really stood up and were counted. Eoghan Byrne and Ryan Boyle immense throughout. Referee was excellent and didn't fall for their bully boy tactics.

Benny did as good a job as the U20s did. Probably won more games than the u20s?
No he did not.. that u20s team were shocking at minor level and have won a trophy at u20 level having drawn with Tyrone in the championship. Their improvement is remarkable.

Quote from: downtothecore on May 04, 2024, 04:10:57 PMDisappointing for this promising minor team  but it was always out of their hands today. They needed firstly to win today which they did impressively but they needed  Monaghan to beat donegal today but Monaghan didnt need to win and Donegal did, so it was very unlikely that they were ever going to get through today in this position.

How many promising minor teams are we going to let management setups ruin before we install the correct people to start developing the underage talent we have in this county??
Get that current man out now and get Laverty to install who he wants - it has worked with u20 group..

Who would you take up?
Jamie Doran is the obvious one. Like the look of Carr too - would Gilroy be worth working with - he is a man mountain. Murdock from Rostrevor too is a very sound player. Take some of them in and give them a go.. no point hanging on to the same faces that have been there 20 months now and still very limited game time. Barry injury is a tough one on the lad but opens a place for at least one.
