Title: Laois Intermediate Football Championship
Post by: SCFC on July 28, 2015, 07:12:32 PM
Throws in this weekend with two games Friday night, both in Group A.
I'd expect Courtwood to be favourites to beat Kilcavan but Kilcavan caught them on the hop in 2013 JFC final and they would fancy their chances of repeating that.
Clonaslee v Annanough should be close. Clonaslee won their recent league game. Hard to call, a draw maybe?
Timahoe must be strong favourites to win this title though. Were fierce disappointed to lose the final last year and hard to see them being stopped. Biggest challenge could come from the winner of the Clonaslee Annanough game.
Don't know much about The Rock, league results were pretty poor. Spink would be decent if Ballinakill exited the hurling any way early, otherwise they could actually go down. Portlaoise and Graigue second teams are hard to read. All depends on how strong the 15 they get together is.
Verdict; Timahoe's to lose.

Hard to look past Timahoe this year. Brendan Quigley back will be big addition. Loss of Clancey in forwards. Still should have enough firepower to win the title this year.

Courtwood have the momentum after winning Division 3 of the league. Some young lads coming through the St Paul's combination at juvenile grades. They should stay up
Intermediate at worst this year. Predict a win vs Kilcavan.

Timahoe at their ease win this.

Timahoe could get caught.. Last year prime example were terrible in final against Ballyfin won that pulling up. Think Clonaslee, Portlaoise have a good chance or maybe Courtwood or Annanough have outside chances

Have to agree that Timahoe should win this, probably comfortably enough. Surely the players and management will not allow a repeat of last year where they went in to the final complacent and Ballyfin shocked them. Quigley being back is a massive boost for them, they are in the Division2 final tonight, beating a couple of senior teams along the way so they seem to be motoring well. Hard to look past them.

Bet O'Dempseys tonight by 4 points. Surely will win Laois and give Leinster a good rattle.

Bit of a set back for O'Dempsey's who are fancying themselves as a contender for senior championship.

A set back for O Dempsey's but I would back them if these two met next week.  Timahoe look decent prob would knock about the semi-final of Senior.

Fair surprise puts O'Dempseys back a bit who were stand outs?

Good win for Annanough in Port tonight. Poor enough game but that win puts them in pole position in that group. Kilcavan and Graigue won't trouble Annanough. The Annanough v Courtwood game is key now. Courtwood beat Kilcavan by 10 points tonight and should be a good test for Annanough.

We (Courtwood) would be happy enough with the win last night. First step on a four step ladder. Not the greatest game ever but championship football is all about results. No point in losing a classic.
Not going to pick out individuals from our team but Mick Bermingham tried very hard for them and of course Fresh looked as good as ever when he came on!
Looking forward to renewing rivalries with Annanough next Friday. We haven't met for a few years now.

Good wins for Courtwood and Annanough. Courtwood look strong this year and the next game v Annanough will be a huge game. Kilcavan were missing a couple of key players last night and a club with such a small pick cant afford to lose one never mind 3 so their next game against Annanough is huge for them and the game last year was very close between the two sides. Timahoe are strong alright and deserve to be favourites but can see a few twists in this. Is it top two or three that progress in the groups?

Kilcavan were missing Ollie Dixon and one of the Mangans which would make a fierce difference to them.

Wins for Timahoe and Annanough last night. Didn't hear Timahoe score but Annanough beat us 1-14 to 1-8. No complaints from us, best team won. That said we missed three unbelievable goal chances in the first half. That's football, all about taking your chances.

Spink look to be goners. They will hardly bother playing timahoe now after getting hidings from Portlaoise and The Rock.
Meanwhile, Timahoe are effectively already through to semi final after a handy win over the town last night. This should be an easy championship for them by the looks of things and they might add the junior B title too next week. Playing a Colt/Mountrath combination in the final

The Rock fairly hammered Spink last night.. Football has been completely put aside it seems over there! The two just don't work together for them it seems! Most likely Annanough and Timahoe to go straight into semi finals. Annanough are the only team I can see that MAY put it up to Timahoe. Still can't see anyone coming close to them.

The Junior B final is between Killeshin and St fintans SCFC. Killesin have a nice team at that grade.
Spink are as good as gone in this alright. Surprised by the beating they took last night. looks like a battle between Graigue and Kilcavan in the other group to see who joins them in the Junior A.

Feel sorry for Spink. They struggle for numbers and for them to lose 2 players to a senior club didnt help. What makes it worse is these same players are not getting a smell at a game with their new club..

Spot on. Don't know what I was thinking. I was sure Timahoe beat Camross in the semi final :-[

Clonaslee beat us (Courtwood) 1-15 to 1-6 last night. They will now play The Rock in the quarter final with the winners playing Timahoe in the semi.
Courtwood or Kilcavan will play Portlaoise in the other quarter final. Kilcavan need to beat Clonaslee by 19 points to deny Courtwood the quarter final spot. Winners of that play Annanough in the semi.
Clonaslee were good last night. Strong, fit and kicked some great scores. They got a soft oul goal which knocked the stuffing out of us a bit. I'd imagine they'll beat The Rock and give Timahoe a right good game.

Is it correct in saying that the group winners now have a 6 week break before a semi final? :-\

That explains it!!  ;) Absolute madness, really not fair on those teams. They will have to go looking for challenge games now to keep momentum up! Not sure what is the justification in that at all!

Timahoe v Clonaslee and Annanough v Courtwood in semis.
Courtwood quite good in quarter final v Portlaoise last night. Let in two goals in the first three minutes and recovered to win 2-13 to 2-9.
Clonaslee beat The Rock handy the night before. The Rock are gone back a lot in the last few years.

two interesting semi-finals thinking the winner of the Timahoe/Clonaslee game should win it. Clonaslee could be without darren hogan according to reports would be a big loss for them. Courtwood forward play was impressive against portlaoise Luke Doyle very good for them, Look dodgy at the back but very capable of beating annanough.

Clonaslee and Annanough into the final.
Saw second half of Annanough game. They were 9-4 up at that stage but Courtwood played most of the football in the second half and were maybe a bit unfortunate not to get a draw. Still it's the scoreboard that counts and Annanough will never have a better chance.
Clonaslee deserved their win just about. Darren Rooney came off with a hamstring after only 10 minutes. Got a penalty around 15 mins from time, added a couple of points and held on comfortably. Quigley sent off near the end for Timahoe. Yellow followed by black I think. Most of Timahoe's scores were frees by Ruairi O'Connor.

Very good win for Clonaslee considering the hurling result last week, not easy for a duel club to pick themselves up in a week, with a lot of duel players, Timahoe can't have any excuses, can't blame "getting caught" this year hardly, best side won again.

They were two interesting semi-finals Saturday evening.

Annanough just about deserved to get by our lads although they'll be concerned about the second half fade out. It took a very brave intervention by Scully to get what ultimately proved to be the winning goal. James and Donal Miller were very good for Annanough in the first half. Courtwood played most of the football in the second half but just came up a bit short. Been a decent year for us and Annanough are in a great position now.

Clonaslee just seemed to want the second semi a bit more than Timahoe. Played some great football – tough, direct and kicked a lot of scores from play whereas Timahoe were overly dependent on Ruairi O'Connor's frees. They'll be very disappointed – would have been favourites for the last two intermediate titles and with Quigley on board this year seemed to be certs.

The final looks hard to call.

very disappointed with timahoe thought they were poor when the game was there to be won. Clonaslee on the other hand played some good football and got real momentum from there goal & were full value for there win. Annanough/Courtwood game very stop/start game a lot of injuries in it probably didn't help, Thought Courtwood deserved something out of it. Scullys intervention for goal was serious knowing well he'd be written off difference between winning & losing.

What happened Annanough yesterday?

Did they turn up on the day or were Clonaslee just too good for them?

Poor final, thought it would be a better game.
Annanough kicked a lot of first half wides. Goalkeeper had 4 or 5 wides on his own from dead balls! Clonaslee always looked comfortable and a bad goal finished the game. Bad look taken off the scoreboard near the end with a goal from Donal Miller.
Clonaslee might struggle in senior unless they can play better than this.

Shocking final probably the worst in living memory...Annanough always seem to bottle it on big days...

Disappointed with John Scully and Donal Miller who played so well all year!
