5-10,000 Americans supposedly still stuck in Afghanistan

WTF was Joe thinking?

He was obviously seriously misled about the potential speed of the Taliban reconquest. They thought they'd have a couple of months.

Absolute clusterfuck.

Makes you wonder about the "intelligence" they were relying on

If this goes badly I don't know what will happen

(I think everyone knew a collapse would come-but I think they were measuring in months not hours)

Should never have been there in the first place...

Should never have been there in the first place...

Al Quada killed 3000 American civilians on 9/11

They were based in Afghanistan and allowed to operate freely by the Taliban

US had no option but to take action against them

The screw up was invading Iraq, not invading Afghanistan

None of us are getting out of here alive, so please stop treating yourself like an after thought. Ea

I think it is safe to say Biden, Trump, Obama and Bush all contributed to the mess we see today.
No one of them carries all the blame but bad decisions were made under their watch.

And Biden is the only one of the four who had a family member serve in the Armed Forces

that is true but the current administration have pulled out and left all the military hardware there for the taliban to take which they have already done ,left documentation of who was working with the Americans , they are responsible for the scenes that we saw at the airport in Kabul and leaving thousands of Americans and allies on the taliban side of a security perimeter around the airport
It cannot get much worse.

Plenty of blame to go round both demo and rep presidents. Some tits (usual suspects) making fools of themselves on political point scoring. The USA are good at training f**k all, want someone to train a Army, try the Germans. What they done was use security contractors and any merc under the sun, money train funding, and supplied weapons, no air support remaining or heavy tank units. Not a wonder they folded. Any army commanders, section leaders needed to be foreign to keep this rabble in place. The foreign legion would fall apart of mickey mouse was leading them. All the American presidents are to blame especially Bush, Trump for the deal he done last year and Biden for not leaving a proper withdrawal, knowing they fold like a pack of cards. Any chance America do us a favour and stay with in North America in Future. All they cause us death and destruction. Land of the free indeed. America the greatest country in the world, only in their heads.

Dick Cheney well worth a mention too. Probably more so than Bush

Each administration over the past 25 years made mistakes to lead to this point. However, the execution of the exit falls square on this administration.

The WH keeps saying that they wanted to stick with Trumps agreement rather than going back into a 10 year more war (or something to that effect). I thought Trump agreed to a 1st May exit, we're in the middle of Aug now so there should have been ample time to get this right. Sending in 2K-3K more troops to assist in a fast exit should have been an easy decision to make if there was concerns with the 2.5K troops there.

Even if the recruits can't read, write, nor count?

So politics ain't my thing...Irish or American so I'm not on here to score points for a particular party but how in the name of God did this get fucked up so badly? How many Americans and others who supported them (translators etc) over the last 20 yrs, are still in Afghanistan? How did the withdrawal strategy not include getting all these people out?

With the 'news' here you never know what to believe but there are also pics and videos of weapons etc. all left behind for the taliban to take and use. It wasn't like the US military were chased out akin to the last few days. We're this weapons left for the Afghan military or did the US just up and leave them for finders keepers?

Well let's hope Biden does the right thing by all of these people now and gets them out of there to safety and into the process for residency in the States.

The Trump wing of the country is already ratcheting up the propaganda about them coming to "your neighbourhood", but what's right is right. If there's a political cost to it, so be it.
