Yeah he'll get pelters from some corners now
Agreed on the rugger btw 😊
No one seems overly bothered. I guess that's gonna upset those who thought everyone would be upset about it.....
When you think you're fucked you're only about 40% fucked.

McIlroy will probably turn up and win the thing. Sometimes I think the less he tries the better he is.

Morikawa was a worthy winner. His Iron play was fantastic. I don't think he hit a bad shot all through the tournament. He'll be hard to stop. Thought Speith was gonna make a run even with those few bogeys at the start. But wasn't to be.

Sounds to me like he's trying to placate his mates in Hollywood.  I know I'm playing for Ireland but I'm not really that bothered.  F%ck off then Rory.  I know he's in an awkward position.  Damned if he does and damned if he doesn't but why say anything at all

That's integrated education for you. Love NI, love soccer, love rugby and love your British passport.

Strange comment I thought. Seems patriotic enough when cheering on Irish rugby, NI soccer, the open at portrush and Carl frampton. Shane Lowry interview following was v good

Honestly don't know why people are surprised. Despite the oft told story about his uncle Mickey McDonald playing for Armagh which people use to claim him as "one of us", his upbringing and background is as British as Finchley. If that's what his choice is good luck to him. Better that he's honest than pretending to be something he isn't.

One of the things I love the most about Rory is how he pisses off those people who see themselves as the de facto decision makers of who and who isn't Irish. Those people who have this narrow vision of Irishness. They usually get worked up about Rory because he doesn't drape the tri colour over himself, or when a black person does a small bit of Irish dancing. The irony being they have more in common with the little Englander that they do with Irish people.

Much better that he speaks the truth than try and be something that he is clearly not and good luck to him. Somebody stated that he is culturally British but I don't see that either. I think he just doesn't do any form of nationalism. If anything he would appear to be more American in his outlook. Golf is a very individual sport and there is no real sense of collective identity so maybe a lot of it stems from that individualism. If you ask me, a sport like golf with all it's commercialism has absolutely no place in the Olympics anyway.

It was me and I was wrong. I'd agree with you - I think he'd culturally identify as Northern Irish.

Maybe it's me that has an issue then and not mcilroy.  I love to see Irish athletes do well in whatever discipline, I love to see the tri colour being raised and moreso if it is in first place and the anthem is being blasted out for all to hear.  The emotion that goes with it for both the athlete and the supporter is great.  If they do win I'm sure Shane Lowry will be standing there as a proud irishman even if his team mate is not.

In other words, you like seeing people getting pissed off?  How sad.

I like Rory because he is honest, down to earth, fantastic talent, is known all over the world and hails from the city in which I live, and his Dad once served me dinner in Clandeboye Golf Club.
