Everyone is well aware of Kieran O'Leary, my question related to a player who is a half back and played there all year was placed in the corner.

Nothing worse than a smug winner

Ah come off it, gettin a text message is grand, what do u expect, him to travel down to each lads house and hold them in his arms while he breaks the bad news? This i imagine would have been the policy all year so i dont think we should be complaining just because it we lost. I did question why Gibbons was named, dont know if he was really gonna offer anything, however which players did you think aside from him werent gonna get onto the pitch?

We lost because we are not good enough, thats the simple answer.  Picking up the phone to talk to a player is not driving all around the county.  The following  subs were never going to save the day IMO and in managements opinion.....

17) Alan Feeney - Castlebar Mitchels
18) Dermot Geraghty - Shrule-Glencorrib
19) Chris Barrett - Belmullet
21) James Kilcullen - Ballaghaderreen
23) Jason Gibbons
26) Mark Ronaldson - Shrule-Glencorrib

I might as well have included Keegan and Campbell in this as well.  I believe that Ronaldson was out of the picture some months ago but was brought back for what?? He was never going to be played by Horan for some reason.  I also believe that managment had lost faith in Alan Feeney.  The rest are just not good enough IMO, and in managment opinion I believe.

So essentially we had no one on the bench that was gonna play a positive role? out of interest who would have been on your bench?

I believe that Moysider has expressed my view of the subs a lot better than I could have done myself.

Who are the alternatives?

also i would have had feeney off alot earlier, o leary gave the gooch two or three great balls which when he's gettin the ball there he cant be stopped. Didnt think trevor actually did too bad either

i didnt mean that the limerick lads were poor players, rather very good players and therefore, someone saying the limerick lads would make the any of the connacht teams midfield isnt that bad, as they would likely make most teams in irelands midfield

players always get better once they are retired! think your being abit unfair on some of the current crop! the dynamics of the game have changed, more often the ball is not hoofed out to the fear laidir in the middle, so the current brand of midfielder high fields much less but is much more involved with the linking of play

wouldnt the limerick midfield pair make the current kerry team, the current dublin team, the current tyrone team, the current kildare side (sans early), and galvin arguably would be on any team in the country?

I am not sayin that sligo is unable to produce quality players but the standard of football played in mayo at senior and more revelantly underage is higher. do you think that playing at a higer standard improves a player?

Also not saying that sligo dont have underage aet ups, i think every county is the same but the point i was making is he came through the mayo system, he could have been better commin thru the leitrim system we cant say but the point is, charlestown people/mayo coaches showed him the skills of the game, coached and helped hime!  as someone said earlier if 7 of 15 players are from bellaghy area why arent you going daft to get those players. is it because tom parsons is inter couty standard. Would you care about tom parsons if he wasnt county standard?

Listing off a few players that came thru, and a couple of successful underage teams makes your point any more valiid. ggreat players can cme from anywhere and get to top, dec browne, but the odds say that if dec brown was from kerry he'd have been a better player

This is probably going to drive the lads mental, but its quite possible to say that pearse hanley and parsons would not be the footballers they are today if they werent from mayo? i mean, they have played in mayo underage football all the way up against teams in mayo, the standard is higher in mayo than in sligo or roscommon. this surely would have contributed to their current abilities. they would have been involved with mayo county panels from the age of 15 also, mayo coaches playing with the best players from mayo. Parsons could play for bellaghy but its illogical to think that he would be the same footballer he is now unless you were to conclude training with under age panels has no benefit or playing at a higher standard is also of no benefit.
you cant complain about a family who makes a choice when a lad is 7/8 because when hes 21 he is a high standard player. i have not once seen names of players who are from the bellaghy area who played for charlestown that you demand play for sligo.
