Just watched the first episode, it seems to be very good, Putin has become a very wealthy boy during his time in office. Hard to know who was the most bent after watching the first episode, the oligarchs or Putin and his gang.

First episode is probably on Iplayer.

Thanks Minder, must have a look at the first, really enjoyed the second, the whole West/Russia tug of war was discussed tonight focussing on the former Russian States and their influence. Intriguing stuff.

Putin is some boy. A lot of people over the years that had the audacity to oppose him have been poisoned, locked up or gunned down in mysterious circumstances. He has fired a few billionaire oligarchs into the gulags for "tax evasion" too. Not to be messed with!

Episode 1 was about his battle with an oil oligarch who accused one of Putins cronies of buying an oil company for the "state" for a knockdown price (corruption). The oligarch is still in jail and his oil company, Yukos, had its assets transferred to the state.

Aye that's Khodorkovsky. He was a big player at one stage and Vlad thought he was too rich and powerful and ultimately a threat to him so he lashed into jail on what are apparently trumped up charges and Yukos assets were transferred to Putin's bank account the state.

Spent a Holiday in Russia a couple of years ago, and was surprised frequently by ordinary Russians, vilifying Gorbachev, while  Putin was much loved and had excessive praise poured upon him.

Watched all 3 there. Hugely interesting stuff the size of Georgia all the way over there they are a sitting duck for any time Russia want to take them on.

I still remember the first time I had heard of Georgia . . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsvhBnKBohk

Must get a watch of this on I player.  A bit of reading into how Roman Abromovich made his billions makes interesting reading also.
