It's a totally idiotic advantage rule when you can lose the advantage inside 4 seconds.

If a player does happen to notice that he has the advantage, can he stop play and say, 'thanks ref but I want the free kick not the so called advantage'?

No, he has to 'honestly' play on and make the ref call it that no advantage is being gained.

I think a ref would give the free in the case of getting bottled up, as it would be clear no advantage is being gained at the start of the bottling up.

It's where the attacking player overcarries for no ones fault but their own that a foul would be called.
Thanks,  are you saying if the ref plays advantage but subsequently the player gets caught in a swarm and holds onto the ball too long, the ref would generally call the play back for the advantage as you alluded to?

But that in the event of the player committing a technical foul on his own accord (too many steps), the ref will generally call the foul against the player?

Quote from: Snapchap on May 03, 2024, 12:56:37 PMThe episode also contains Joe telling us how he told txt a friend before the Derry Donegal game to predict that Donegal would win using "a ploy to go for lobbed goals when the keeper comes to midfield". Weirdly, he never once made that prediciton in public before the game. Just told us about how he predicted it in the aftermath and how obvious it was.

Not a friend but of course with Joe it has to be a recent county player who just happened to message Joe to ask for his prediction. In this case it was Ryan Jones from Fermanagh who of course after the match text Joe to say that he was absolutely correct in his prediction.
'Mystic Joe' -  except where Joe's concerned the prediction is announced after the event.

Gough was fortunate that Galway won, If they hadn't won, he would've been melted on the spot by the extent of Joyce's ire post game. Considering the 2 shocking decisions when Galway were trying to claw back the 3 point deficit, the two soft frees they did get just balanced things out.
But that's not how a game should be reffed.
Overall I thought Galway were well worth the margin of victory.

Post match interview, Joyce was fulsome in his praise for referee Gough who had a great game (i.e. according to Pádraig)

Aside from the evident upping of the ante, this was the most organised I have seen Celtic play this season and it follows that most every player was comfortable and there were very good performances all around.

Quote from: Schkite on April 30, 2024, 03:24:46 PMWould be happy enough with that draw from a Monaghan perspective, though Meath and Louth probably thinking the same thing.
We  could write off the first game v (probably) Kerry in Killarney, but good to have home ground v (hopefully) Louth and neutral v Meath. There's hope.
Whoever loses the Ulster final will probably wonder why they bothered trying to get there.

I think one time Thomas started by recognising that he had claimed the previous episode to be the most powerful but this one really is the most powerful (on the Niblock scale).

The podcast's greatest achievement was managing to persuade  Francie (Hatchet Man) Bellew to come on and it follows that Thomas' discipline was stretched to the rafters to restrain his compulsion to fill in the many seconds of dead air as we waited for Francie to finally answer  with a yes or no.

Off work for a week or 2 here and need a good series to watch. Rome any use? Only 2 seasons.
How about catching up on some badly needed DIY :)

Can the PPS back off with the prosecution (eg after 6 months) but reserve the right to take it up again in the future?

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on April 27, 2024, 07:02:10 PMThat last free, he didn't blow for the 'first' foul, blew for the obvious round the neck free, spoke to linesman, free then given for first free (which you can't do) and thankfully he missed

Three times in the game he over turned frees awarded to Armagh and let's not mention the on the ground he gave with the ball a foot in the air

But he also gave Armagh a few soft ones.

On balance I think Down did better out of his decisions. But the referee wasn't a determinant factor in the score line of this game, not even remotely close.
Definitely Armagh got a few soft ones and very fortunate I thought to get the foul on the left side in the 2nd half but that was one which Rian missed. I think Down lost because they shot themselves in the foot with poor decisions in the latter part of the game, such as the mark a bit to the left where the kicked hadn't a hope in hell of scoring a point.

Major c**k up by the police to bring him out and no transport. Saw a photo of that man and he looks exactly like you expect him to. Bryson seems to think he's a republican.

I'm almost certain Ben Lowry says good to see you to him and seemed to know where he was from.

Could be a republican but highly unlikely.

The "good to see you" greeting was so low key as to mean the sewer rats I have to associate with in order to get a bit of info.

Unreal. He's a great actor considering he's a comedian. Must be therapeutic playing himself. I never was as uncomfortable watching something and as quiet when over.

Couldn't sit through it.

Me either. Took two goes to make it through the first episode.  Think I'll leave it at that.
How come?  I binge-watched it over the weekend (more or less) and found it fascinating, but never felt I had to turn it off.
The actress playing Martha was fantastic as well.
I'm 2 episodes in and am definitely interested in how it all fans out. For a while I wilted but the entrance out of nowhere of the lusciously intelligent Teri got me back on the right track.

I'd go get your eyesight checked if I were you. The ref won it for you

He gave Cavan more time than they should have got at the end for them to try and get an equaliser.
He didn't even play enough time to cover the wasting at the last Morgan free lad...

From  when the free  was awarded to Morgan kicking  it  was roughly a minute. Ref played  about 45 seconds  over the 2 minutes , so  technically 15 seconds short.

But aren't players  allowed the 15 seconds to kick a free? So that evens it out
If the ref thought Morgan took too long then he would've cancelled the free, not added on 20 seconds at the end.

Quote from: JPGJOHNNYG on April 20, 2024, 03:48:03 PMJoe hart had an interesting shoot out
I thought his save was brilliant, he got down fast at full stretch (that's a long stretch) to grab the hard hit penalty. However, the pundits commented upon the poorly struck penalty.
