How the fook would they have an idea of the form of the club players in the 9 counties in Ulster? If it was the County Champions from each county, maybe that would be a start.

Like the 25 year montly award team, another ridiculous idea.

Killian Brady got Senior Player of the Year, John McCutcheon got Intermediate, Patrick Rudden got Junior

Just announced

Fair play to them, Killian Brady was very solid in the Senior Championship. McCutheon was class for Cootehill, especially the drawn game against Lacken, Best individual display I saw this year from any player. I only saw Paddy Rudden once this year and that was in the Final, he looked decent, good from the free's. Only 21 like Killian Brady.

O Gara was taking about retiring from International level a year ago. He was a brillant player, but its time to look at other alternatives at this stage. Kidney is probaly a bit too loyal to him at this stage, possibly Darcy aswell although he is a few years younger.

There is lots of very good alternatives for back up for Sexton, Paddy Jackson obviously being one. He is still 20, so lots of time to develop. I think Ian Madigan is a very good player and Ian Keately from Munster.

Great to see Gilroy getting his first proper Cap. His clubmate Andrew Trimble didn't even make the 24 man match day squad. Surpised to see Darcy included.

Sure that's pure madness. Playing the railway cup overseas makes it more attractive for the players but that isn't the issue. The challenge is to make it more attractive tothe ordinary GAA supporter.

If we are serious about promoting the games internationally we are far better served playing national league or championship games there

To be honest I think the only people that care about it are the players themselves
so I see no harm in playing it overseas. The GAAIs based largely on tribalism and identity and that is hard to create at inter provincial level and so supporters don't care much for the result. I'll guarantee not too many people could even name the last few winners.

Seems to be only Ulster who give it 100% attention.. There is never any time for it, between club and County and then college football.

Its a great competition if it had a schelduded time on the GAA calendar. The final was played in Paris one year in November and it was a succees

Another Bullsh*t topic. How many times will such a topic be covered? It is almost as bad as the best province debate.

They play in the B competition which is called the Mclarnon Cup. They are more competitive in the Mlarnon cup and are in the quarter final's. They have been playing mclarnon the last few years, couldn't compete at McRory level. Hence why they played in  the Leinster league and championship for a few years 04/06.

Yeah Stats can be misleading, mighn't have scored any league goals, he has been doing a lot of donkey work recently, covering back getting the tackles in. Not like Silva at City as he has top class players around him to do that.

Norwich have been dire this season, one or 2 good results recently such as against Utd have showed hope for some improvement. Not down to Hoolahan that are were playing poor. he has been working his socks off.

Cornafean did draw their great teams from neighbouring clubs as there was a rule at the time stipulating you had to play senior club championship to play for Cavan.

The Reds might have a few lads playing Senior Championship next year, if the amalgamations go ahead. Think it will be the only way they will ever win a Senior Championship in the future.

I honestly think that will ruin football in the county if that goes ahead

What is the story there, is it related to the restructuring of the leagues?
I was looking through the Cavan board and could see no discussion on it.

I think Tom Reilly the County Chairman has a vision of turning Cavan into Kerry in the Future by replacting their County Championship. It was mentioned back around March/April this year and is going ahead as far as I know.
It will lead to a congested fixture list. The League's started this year back in Feburay, the Division Final is only being played next Sunday.

Divison 1 Senior League will have 10 teams next year. 7 teams were relagated. Senior Championship  will cosist of those teams and a a few amalgamations. 20 teams will play in the intermediate. Some of those will be part of the senior under the amalgamations. Going to be a bit crazy...

Cavan club football has gone from bad to dire. Something has to be done to try and address this. I think Tom is trying to do something to raise the standards and while there will be problems I think it is worth a go.

It should improve the Quality. That wouldn't be hard as the Co final drawn game and replay this year was dire stuff.
The likes of Lacken wouldn't be a big club like Cavan Gaels. For them to compete against an amalgamation of say, Gowna,Arva,Cornafean and Killeshandra would be a big ask. Struggle to beat Gowna and Killeshandra aldone.
I don't know what way they will work, it out, have seeded teams or what.

An Erne Gaels team, of Belturbet, Redhills, Butlersbridge and Drumlane would be another team Lacken would struggle to beat and a few other most other Senior Clubs, bar Cavan Gaels at full strenght.

It will be interesting...

We aren't as bad as I was thinking a fortnight ago. How did Cookstown Doohamlet go?

I was at both games in Enniskillen. Drumhowan were my tips for Ulster JFC. It shows I know nothing! Everyting was in Drumhowan's favour - a point up at half time and then An Port Mor had a man sent off shortly into the second half. It was all set-up there for Drumhowan to win. There collpase was a total surprise as the first half was even enough and Drumhowan looked to have enough to edge out a win. There is no doubt Drumhowan missed Darren Duffy who is a key player for them but they totally lost their heads. Credit to An Port Mor and espcially Collie Holmes who grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck. He did the simple things well and kept his head when others were losing it around him.  The second half was completely one sided and in the final five minutes the Drumhowan players tempers got the better of them and had 3 sent off. If An Port Mor play like they did in the second half, they'll make it a good final, but if it's like they played in the first half, it's Brackaville's to lose.

Cookstown won the Intermediate match as expected. But they were made fight all the way in a bruising encounter and truth be told, Cookstown were very lucky it didn't at least go to extra time. Cookstown got of to a flying start 1-1 up after 4 minutes and they looked like they'd be rampant. Big Gilmore was proving very dangerous and there were moving the ball well out of defence. Thereafter Doohamlet settled and were completely dominant for the remainder of the first half. Their problem was finishing , they missed a goal and 5 or 6 point efforts. Even though Doohamlet led at half time, this wastefulness came back to haunt them in the second half.

Cookstown effectively won the match in the third quater of the game. Conor O'Hare and Barry Mulligan got on top in the middle for a 15 minute spell and they got 4 pts on the trot. Then  Doohamlet's FB was sent off, but Mugsy should have got the line too. After that it was all Doohamlet. They were camped in the Cookstown half but again their wastefulness was their undoing. They came migthly close to a draw when Paul McArdle hit the post with a free.  This was effectively the final of the compeition and I expect Cookstown to beat Warrenpoint handily.

Doohemlet seemed to have no luck.

Ulster club JFC semi-finals
Laragh United (Cavan) 1-03 0-16 Brackaville (Tyrone), Clones FT
Drumhowan (Monaghan) 0-07 1-16 An Port Mor (Armagh), Brewster Park FT

Great result for Port Mor.

Some crazy results - Laragh hammered Drum and Brackaville hammered Laragh.

Laragh seemed a bit over confident going into that game yesterday, the drum team they beat hadn't played a game in 9 weeks :o crazy tbh, the Derry final was obviously back in July/august.

Wes Hoolahan was always a class act. I remember watching him for Shelbourne a few times, he was always a stand out player back then, that was 04. He was the best player on the field against Deportivo la Coruna in the that famous Champions League run, (same as Fahey was against Hertha Berlin).. I thought that type of form would have gotten Hoolahan a move to at least a Championship side, but he went to Livingstone in Scotland. He then went to Blackpool and then to Norwich, best player for them since he joined, and has probaly been their best player this season.

Serious vision, and great balance and skill. Its a pity it took Trappatoni this long to give him a chance. But he can only make up for lost time because he is 30 now..

There is noone who can re-write history or be self deluded quite like an Irish soccer fan.
Hoolahan-is a useful player who has been around the mnor leagues for a long time and who features from time to time but not always for Norwich. He is apparently our new saviour along the lines of Andy Reid, former Sunderland and Notts Forest reserve or Keith Fahey (Birmingham reserve) - anything else in common? They are all Dubs, hence the over-hyped expectation.

Apart from playing every game this season. 127 in total for Norwich :)
