Title: GAABoard Fantasy NFL - Superbowl V - Champion Crowned
Post by: AZOffaly on July 06, 2009, 12:05:57 PM
Hi All,

It's nearly getting to that time of year when we start thinking of quarterbacks, sacks, hail marys and blitz defences. Last year we ran two conferences because of interest, (We had 28 entrants). I'd propose doing the same setup again if we have the numbers. What does everybody think?

Finally, I'd use Yahoo again, because we are all so familiar with the setup there now, but if anyone else has alternatives like NFL.com or CBSSports or whatever, lets have them and we can decide.

Cheers

Good stuff. Yahoo fine with me.
Are you gonna have a look at the scoring structure AZ?
Personally I would be in favour of cutting pts for QBs throwing TDs. Maybe from 6 down to 4.
The draft (and the scoring) was very top heavy with QBs last year

I'm willing to hear all suggestions/wishes. Then I'll make the decision. That's something we can tweak right up to the start of the season I think, certainly until the draft.

Good stuff, I thought last year was fairly good - maybe though, rather than having separate sections, you could do a division 1 and division 2 based on last years rankings  ;)

Stick my name down anyway.

Good to see this back!
Agree with the passing TD points being reduced, it should be seen as more of an assist than the qb getting the same points as the guy that gets into the end zone...

I'm in, see if I can improve on last years 4th place!

How about Points per reception. Like a hallf point per reception or something?

Make the Wes Welkers of this world worth drafting.

You're a wee bit earlier than last year AZ... Hyped up a bit by AZ's superbowl appearance?

After a terrible debut season in 2006 (only 1 win) I racked up about 5 wins in the my second season but didn't get a chance to build on that last year as I missed out.

I'd like to see all these reduced to

Passing Touchdowns   2 Points
Rushing Touchdowns   4 Points
Reception Touchdowns  4 Points
Title: Re: GAABoard Fantasy NFL - Superbowl V
Post by: mc_grens on July 07, 2009, 11:49:08 PM
On due reflection I think last years scoring wasnt far off. My reason for suggesting point per reception is that I think that QB's are a little over powered in the above.

Something like what Dinny said will address that but I think a TD should be worth more than four points. Especially when you consider a long field goal would net the same return.

How about:
Passing Touchdowns   4 Points
Rushing Touchdowns   6 Points
Reception Touchdowns  6 Points

I still think PPR is worth a shout as it awards backs and receivers, but not QB's, thus evening things a bit.

The NY Jets III are in,learnt a lot from the rookie season hoping to go better this year..... only problem I had was with free agency, even with az locking it over weekend the same  player/s (in peyton anyhow) got in first to pick every week....is there any way of making this fairer???

I think this is never gonna satisfy everyone...

Some people have better access at work, some don't.

Some people have access to the net while watching the games on SUnday, some don't.

Many people are in different time zones. There's no keeping everyone happy on this one

I reckon we leave it as it was last year or just open it altogether.

Scoring Settings

Passing Touchdowns   6 Points
Interceptions   -2 Points

I agree that qb's can score a bit heavily, but I'd prefer to level it up by making bigger punishment for interceptions. There's no way that a qb who throws 2 td's and 0 ints should be outscored by a guy with 4tds and 5 ints. I'd make interceptions as -4.

Points Allowed 0 points   15 Points
Points Allowed 1-6 points   10 Points
Points Allowed 7-13 points   7 Points
Points Allowed 14-20 points   2 Points
Points Allowed 21-27 points   0 Points
Points Allowed 28-34 points   -1 Points
Points Allowed 35+ points   -4 Points

I'd like to see more weight to this. Defences right now score a lot more for being a "bells and whistles" D that scores a load of turnovers than if they force a game full of three-and-outs. They already score highly enough, however I'd change the last three to -1, -4 and -7 respectively.

Otherwise I'd be happy enough with the scoring.

You can use a waiver system based on team points, low team gets first pick on up to first place team.

This season, Yahoo gives the option to disallow picking up free agents during the weekend periods, which was a major drawback before. I think all players not picked up before the weekend automatically go onto waivers until after all matches are over.

The first preseason game is the 15th August and the regular season starts September 10th. Somewhere in the middle of that would be good so everyone can get a look at some preseason games...

Alright, Leagues are renewed. I'll adjust scoring before the drafts (Montana August 21st, Payton August 28th).

I've reinvited all managers from last year back, but newcomers are also welcome. To join go to either

http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/357492 (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/357492) Which is the Payton Conference or
http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/357481 (http://football.fantasysports.yahoo.com/f1/357481) which is the Montana Conference.

Depending on numbers, I reserve the right to move teams around to keep things even. Last year we had 28 managers I think.

Anyway - Hut Hut Hut!!

You have to be already logged into Yahoo to open the links. If you log in and probably get it to "remember me" or something it should work...

Try it the old fashioned way. Go to Join a League from the Fantasay Football home page, and the ID is 357492 or 357481. The password is 'cardinals'

Thanks for setting this up AZ.

The Mafiosi are in - but re-branded as a result of sponsorship difficulties.

For 2009 I will be winning, and continuing the Mayo record in Connacht this year - as the Mayo Clean-Sweepers.

For the top team in Connacht you will have competition from The Galway Impactplayers and another team The 'Mayo Warriors' now that you decided to enter the Walter Payton Conference.  After our absence last year because of our team not getting all their forms in on time the Impactplayers are back and we want to improve on our 6-9 record from two years ago.  We are not a big money team like the Clean-Sweepers, we are more a small team for the ordinary working man punching above our weight. :P ;D

Found this post on another boards site:

"NFL announced this tea time(6th August) that there will be NO pre season games this season on Sky.
And no contract expected to be signed by anyone until 2 or 3 weeks from now.
Negotiations they say are tough in the economic climate (ie Sky probably want to cut the price a lot, I imagine).
Also refer to contracts plural, suggesting ESPN might be involved.
And that we might lose other things apart from pre season but gain in other ways.
The NFL UK statement refers to three steps forward and two back (???) summing up the likely situation this season.
But this deal is going to the wire and we might surmise (ie guess) that Sky and ESPN are not willing to pay what NFL want and this might result in a lesser number of games.
But that is pure speculation as there is no hard news and seemingly may not be until mid/late August."

So no preseason games this year on sky...
Hopefully theyll get it sorted in time for the season opener...

Fair point Rossie. I've been away in Legoland for a week with the young fella, and I'm swamped at work since I came back. But I think it's a valid point, and I had asked for feedback. This is the current scoring system...

Offense
Passing Yards
50 yards per point;
2 points at 250 yards;
2 points at 300 yards;
5 points at 400 yards

Passing Touchdowns
6
Interceptions
-2
Rushing Yards
20 yards per point;
2 points at 100 yards;
2 points at 150 yards;
5 points at 200 yards

Rushing Touchdowns
6
Receptions
0.5
Reception Yards
20 yards per point;
2 points at 100 yards;
2 points at 150 yards;
5 points at 200 yards
Reception Touchdowns
6
Return Yards
40 yards per point;
2 points at 100 yards;
2 points at 150 yards;
2 points at 200 yards
Return Touchdowns
8
2-Point Conversions
2
Fumbles Lost
-2
Offensive Fumble Return TD
6
Kickers
Field Goals 0-19 Yards    3
Field Goals 20-29 Yards    3
Field Goals 30-39 Yards    3
Field Goals 40-49 Yards    4
Field Goals 50+ Yards    5
Field Goals Missed 0-19 Yards    -5
Field Goals Missed 20-29 Yards    -4
Field Goals Missed 30-39 Yards    -2
Field Goals Missed 40-49 Yards    -2
Field Goals Missed 50+ Yards    -1
Point After Attempt Made    1
Point After Attempt Missed    -3

Defense/Special Teams
Sack    2
Interception    2
Fumble Recovery    2
Touchdown    8
Safety    2
Block Kick    2
Kickoff and Punt Return Touchdowns    8
Points Allowed 0 points    15
Points Allowed 1-6 points    10
Points Allowed 7-13 points    7
Points Allowed 14-20 points    2
Points Allowed 21-27 points    0
Points Allowed 28-34 points    -1
Points Allowed 35+ points    -4

Defensive Players
Tackle Solo    0.5
Sack    4
Interception    4
Fumble Force    4
Fumble Recovery    4
Defensive Touchdown    6
Safety    2
Pass Defended    1
Block Kick    2

I'm intended reducing the TD Pass to 4 points, and increasing the defensive players tacke to 1 point from 0.5.

Anything else?

Also, from looking back at earlier posts.,I like the Point per Reception as well.

How do those changes sound? Passing TD = 4 points, Reception - 1 point, Solo Tackle = 1 point.

Hi guys.
I realise we can't suit everyone but I'll just make it known that i'd like the draft to be on the weekend. I cant' access the website at work (I dunno how you guys do it in work anyway - it takes a good while!!!) so I won't be able to access the draft.

I don't expect the draft to be changed but i'm just letting it be known that I would prefer it to be changed.

It's easy enough Eastern Pride. If you like the NFL, it's for you. Go to the yahoo.com and register an account there, then go to the Fantasy Football '09, make sure you pick the free version. Select Join an Existing League and put in the code for the Montana Conference (357481) and the password (cardinals).

You can read away in there about the rules etc, but in general ...

A draft will take place on Friday coming, and you will select players online with all the other managers in the league. You must select a certain quota of QBs, RBs, WRs etc etc.

Each week you will then pick an active team from your roster, 1 QB, 2 RBs, 2WRs 1TE etc and you will gather points for the week based on how they do in real life. (4 points for a TD pass, 6 for a rushing TD, -2 for a fumble or INT etc etc etc)

Each week you are playing against another manager in the league, and the top 4 teams go into 'conference' semi finals and finals.

The reason why I call it conferences, is because we have too many for 1 Fantasy league, so we have to run 2. Hence the Montana and Payton conferences.

When the fantasy league season is over in week 17, the winners of the 2 conferences progress to a Playoffs prediction competition to determine the overall GAA Board Superbowl champion, currently held by Bombidal.

Join up though, it's good craic and good aul' interest.

We need 1 more for Montana, or else the draft will have to be postponed. You can't have odd numbers for a head to head league.

If worst comes to worst the champ could field a team in the Montana conference as well.
This would also eliminate the need for the predictions at the end of the season as he would probably win both conferences :D :D :D

Think it was Wicklow Warriors and New Jork Jets III that joined today. Not sure in what order. I imagine someone will have to drop out or else we will have a 14 team conference and a 12 team one and the 12 team one will have stronger squads due to having 2 less players.

Aye Friday week.

Just about the draft, most people seem to have their best internet connections at work, and so that's why it's a weekday. Also I picked Friday evening, as I think most people are on a wind down at that stage for the weekend. I had asked before about preferred draft days, and that's more or less what the consensus was. Plus it suits me better than weekend. :D My 2 year old doesn't appreciate Daddy at the computer for 2 hours on a Saturday afternoon :D

Don't forget lads, Fantasy Draft for the Montana Conference today at 2.15 pm. As always, please test your system can run the applet using the 'test your system' link.

Arrive early, and here's a couple of tips/requests tip, given that it's in work hours, and we'll all probably get dragged into doing real life stuff.

1. If you have not pre-ranked your players, because you intend to be at the draft (like myself), then make sure you drag the ones you are interested in into your queue, in order of preference. That way Yahoo will auto draft the next highest when your turn comes if you are not there. You can change this list throughout the draft.

2. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do not walk away from your computer without clicking the 'I am away' box. Otherwise everyone else will be left waiting for your 90 seconds to wind down each time. You can unclick it when you return.

Try and get in around 2.10, the draft order will be decided just before hand.

Cheers

Howye lads,

Same applies this week. Get there early, and please select 'Autopick' (they changed the terminology) if you are going to be away. Auto picks happen in 10 seconds, otherwise it will run all the way from to 90 secs.

Also, use the watch list to drag your preferred next players into the queue, that way if you select autopick it will work from that list.

Beware of leaving lads there though. I had my two QBs picked up, and then wasted a 7th rounder on Eli Manning because I had dragged 2 QBs into the list and was called away.

I was looking at how many players were drafted last Friday, so to make sure I would have enough I pre ranked 235.  Though to be honest I made a good effort pre-ranking about the first 90 or so going by a host of different things and my own opinion.  After that I just flew through the rest of them.  Took me an hour or so but you could do it quicker as long as you don't get carried away with it!

Is anyone able to make the draft? We had a good enough turnout last week? Looks like we may be a good bit lighter this week?

Should be there. Hoping for a chance to get a big gun this year too - four years of this and I've still never had a draft pick higher than ten. (Might have been a 7 or an 8 last year, but I missed the draft and Randy Moss was my draft - bah!!)

Dunno bout the rest of you, but Im reasonably happy.

Lads, I was watching Match of the Day on BBC last night, and the League MOTD that came on afterwards. When the highlights of the other games, the roundup, was on, I'm convinced I heard Nick Halling doing the reports. Is he gone from Sky? Do they allow their NFL guy to do BBC work for soccer?

If he's left, what does that imply about the NFL coverage. I wish they'd release some info...

It's only 4 points per throwing TD and PPR this yr Bombidone... Er... Bombidal. The top receivers and backs who catch passes are what you want.

Didn't enter this but wish I had! Few questions though. I get the jist of the scoring system and QBs not being worth as much this year, but why leave Big Ben so late? Also, if receptions and rushing yards are big points wise, then someone should have snapped up Darren Sproles earlier- going to see a lot more game time this year!

Generally he doesn't tend to throw many touchdowns compared to some of the other QB's. He's usually not even in the top 10 most seasons. Not a bad backup though.

Rothlesberger has only thrown for more than 20 TD's once in his career, because of the weather in Pittsburgh as the season goes on the Steelers are more run orientated & obviously they rely on a great defence.

Granted, I was looking at him as reliable more than a touchdown grabber. What about Parker then for their running game?

I don't think he will see as much action this year, Rashard Mendenhall (their first round pick in '08) should feature more heavily.

Either way i hope one (either sky or espn) gets all the coverage, that way i dont have to pay for both...

Checked the EPG on Sky, ESPN is showing Clemson and Georgia Tech next Thursday night - If there's any hope its that Sky Sports 2 is showing Total Access until 1 o clock and there's no further information after 1 yet - normally the Thursday night programme started at 1am last year - fingers crossed we should know in a couple of hours whether it's yay or nay

There's a 3.5 hours slot on Sky Sports 2 with TBA on it at the time of the Steelers v Titans next Thursday night so Sky must be fairly confident....

Read on another forum and a poster who is very reliable and seems to have knowledge of the negotiations said deal has been signed with Sky and an announcement will be made at the start of the week.

QuoteSky Sports and the NFL have signed a new three-year deal which will see Sky showing live NFL games and additional NFL Network coverage. The deal continues a successful partnership between Sky Sports and the NFL in the UK that has been running since 1995.

Sky will air live coverage of games at 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. every Sunday night through the NFL season, as well as providing live coverage of the Saturday and Thursday night games that take place during the final seven weeks of the season, along with all postseason games.

Sky will also provide extensive weekday coverage of the NFL via their NFL Network programming, including NFL Total Access.

"Sky ongoing coverage of the NFL is great news for NFL fans across the UK," said NFL UK Managing Director Alistair Kirkwood. "We are very pleased to be working with them for the 14th consecutive season."

Sky Sports' 2009 NFL presentation will be anchored by Kevin Cadle and Nick Halling. Their coverage will kick off on the night of Thursday September 10 th at 1:00 a.m. (Friday morning) with the Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers hosting the Tennessee Titans.

Sky Sports' Week One coverage will continue on Sunday September 13th, with Brett Favre's debut for the Minnesota Vikings against the Cleveland Browns at 6:00 p.m., followed at 9:00 p.m. with an NFC East showdown between the New York Giants and Washington Redskins.

Week Two's live NFL coverage features the Philadelphia Eagles hosting the New Orleans Saints at 6:00 p.m. followed by the first glimpse of the Wembley-bound Tampa Bay Buccaneers as they travel to Buffalo to face Terrell Owens and the Bills.

In Week Three, Sky will feature the Tennessee Titans visit to the New York Jets at 6:00 p.m., with a clash between the Miami Dolphins and San Diego Chargers at 9:00 p.m..

The final week of selected games sees the New England Patriots - visitors to Wembley in 2009 - hosting the Baltimore Ravens at 6:00 p.m., followed by the Denver Broncos facing off against the Dallas Cowboys.

Coverage is drastically reduced on Sky. No more late night Sunday game or MNF and no more red button games.

If you have Sky you can tune it in. Can't get it on UPC though. Irish NFL fans have been overlooked a bit here. Channel 5 isn't widely available over here.

Don't forget to set your lineups on or before Thursday night, as the first game kicks off then. I am looking at locking rosters until all games are over each week, I'll post back here when I figure out the best way of doing that. It's only fair as it does not confer an advantage on someone who has internet access and/or is watching all the games.

Week 1 of the Montana Conference is

Faithful Turfmen     0.00  v Smackdown Clowns    0.00
Big Apple Orchards    0.00    v hegans helmets    0.00
chargersabú            0.00  v Curragh Rams            0.00
Craigyhill Terrors            0.00    v Galway Bay Tribesmen 0.00
Ruthless Rossies            0.00    v The Royal Badgers    0.00
O'Neill's Chargers    0.00    v New York Jets III    0.00

Week 1 of the Payton Conference is

Faithful Turfmen B     0.00  v North Antrim Nuggets    0.00
BallyhaiseBroncos    0.00    v Wicklow Warriors    0.00
Galway Impactplayers    0.00    v Jack Jack City    0.00
the knee grows            0.00    v Red Hand Helmets    0.00
Crossmaglen Hitmen    0.00    v L'Esprit de Biff    0.00
Mayo Clean-Sweepers    0.00    v mayo warriors    0.00

And finally, the NFL Schedule is as follows. Live Games with an *. SS = Sky Sports, C5 = Channel 5, E = ESPN (hopefully :) ), BR5 = BBC Radio 5 Live (really!)

Thursday Sept 10th
Tennessee Titans @ Pittsburgh Steelers * SS2

Sunday Sept 13th
Phildelphia Eagles @ Carollina Panthers
Minnesota Vikings @ Cleveland Browns * SS3
Kansas City Chiefs @ Baltimore Ravens
Denver Broncos @ Cincinnati Bengals
Jacksonville Jaguars @ Indianapolis Colts
New York Jets @ HoustonTexans
Dallas Cowboys @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Detroit Lions @ New Orleans Saints
Miami Dolphins @ Atlanta Falcons
San Francisco 49ers @ Arizona Cardinals * BR5
Washington Redskins @ New York Giants * SS3
St. Louis Rams @ Seattle Seahawks
Chicago Bears @ Green Bay Packers * C5
Buffalo Bills @ New England Patriots

Monday Sept 14th
San Diego Chargers @ Oakland Raiders Possibly Live TV (TBA)

If I was a gambling man, and I am, I'd be looking at the Vikings, Packers and Eagles from the NFC, with the Patriots, Chargers and Steelers from the NFC.

Just for the craic, this is my guess at how the divisions will finish up.

NFC East

Eagles
Giants
Cowboys
Redskins

NFC South
Saints
Falcons
Panthers
Buccaneers

NFC North
Vikings
Packers
Bears
Lions

NFC West
Cardinals
Seahawks
49ers
Rams

AFC East
Patriots
Jets
Dolphins
Bills

AFC South
Jaguars
Titans
Colts
Texans

AFC North
Steelers
Ravens
Browns
Bengals

AFC West
Chargers
Broncos
Chiefs
Raiders

There are some dingers of divisions. My pick for best divisions would be the NFC Central with the Vikings, Packers and Bears all strong, and the AFC south is crazy with the Jaguars, Titans and Colts and even the Texans.

THE JAGS.......they won't be my pick for the AFC south.

NFC East - impossible to predict, very strong

Giants
Eagles
Redskins
Cowboys

NFC South

Falcons
Saints - wildcard
Panthers
Bucaneers

NFC North
Vikings
Packers - Wildcard
Bears - Until Cutler has good wide receivers to throw to this is where they will finish.
Lions

NFC West
Arizona
Seahawks
49ers - carbtree could make a difference if he signs on time
Rams

AFC East
Patriots
Bills
Dolphins
Jets - rookie quarterback with 1 wide receiver to throw to

AFC South

Titans
Colts
Texans
Jaguars

AFC North - easy to predict from top to bottom

Steelrs
Ravens
Bengals
Browns

AFC West

Chargers
Broncos
Chiefs
Raiders

Lads, should we have a prize for this? Was just wondering what the takeup would be? If we had a tenner each, then the conference winners who lost out on the superbowl could win 100, while the Superbowl winner could have 140. What do ye think?

Just to explain - €10 subs per team

Conference Champions guaranteed €100 each

Superbowl (predictions) winner an extra €40.

AZ!

There's an option this year to set the weekly waiver time. You can set up that players are all on waivers over the weekend from the time of the start of the first match until the following Tuesday. You shouldn't need to be locking teams.

"Weekly Waivers

Use these settings to give everyone in the league a fair chance at picking up players. Sunday - Tuesday means all unowned players will be placed on waivers at 10:00am PT each Sunday with the claim period ending at 11:59pm PT on Tuesday. First game of the week - Tuesday means all unowned players will be placed on waivers at the start of the first game for that week with the claim period ending at 11:59pm PT on Tuesday."

PS - best of luck to everyone this season

The 171 points was me, mostly thanks to the Philly D!

Although it should be noted I got poor returns out of Andre Johnston, Matt Forte, and Roddy White. My top 3 picks! Could have been even better if one or two of them had gotten a TD! Also Mike Bell had 140 yds rushing but no TDs. Hopefully there'll be more of the same against Bombidal next week!

Was wondering that myself about the stat-tracker - it would be great if it is up for the season.

Original result in the Montana conference:

hegans helmets
158.45
New York Jets III
157.30

They must have corrected some stats cos this now reads:
hegans helmets
158.45
New York Jets III
161.30

Jets move to 2-0 and the helmets drop to 1-1 ??? ???

Yep. The two DL I had were reserves so I took a quick look on Saturday night and couldn't believe Mathis and Freeney were there. Freeney had a sack but I had him on the bench as I wasn't expecting him to play.

This week I had NcNabb, Andre Johnston, Roddy White, Steve Smith (NYG), Ahmad Bradshaw, Kevin Smith, Chris Cooley, Philly, OJ Atogwe, Abram Elam, Justin Tuck, Elvis Dumervil, and jay Feely.

On the bench I had Forte, Driver, Garrard, Weddle, Jerome Hartison, and Nate Washington.

I'm averaging 155 points so far, got good weeks outta players I've since dropped too- Mike Bell, Cinncinati D, Julius Jones...

I am fcuked this weekend, too many players on byes and Calvin Johnson was deactivated today.

I see Manningham has just got a TD for Giants, I tried to get him on waivers the other day but was turned down because someone else had a higher "waiver priority" than me. What exactly does that mean?
Title: Re: GAABoard Fantasy NFL - Superbowl V - Week 1.
Post by: mc_grens on October 18, 2009, 08:00:58 PM
It means that you more recently picked a player up off waivers than them. That means it's their turn. On the league page each team has a "waiver" number from 1-12, indicating priority (1 being higesy obviously).

Cheers, I thought it was part of a wider conspiracy against me. Treating this week as a write off as Indy are on a bye and I have 5 players from them.

Minder, I just want to thank you for not trading me Michael Turner.

Forte has double digit points for the last three weeks and now Turner has  a high ankle sprain that'll keep him out 2-3 games, and could haunt him the rest of the way like Gates last year.

Again, thanks!

i think az sets the point system he asked at the start of the year had lads and thoughts regarding it . i personally think that the defensive players points should be changed next year

He mustn't be happy with his 137pt per week average..

Are you sure ceiphas? The setting is
'20 yards per point; 2 points at 100 yards; 2 points at 150 yards; 5 points at 200 yards' etc etc

Note the 'at'. It doesn't say >100 yards.

Which fella do you think didn't get it?

Looked at this Ceiphas, and I think you are wrong. Chris Johnson is the guy in question. His stats for Week 10 are:

132 Rushing Yards = 6 points + 2 Bonus + 12/20 of a point = roughly 8.60 or so.
2 Rushing TDs = 12 Points
9 Receptions = 9 Points
100 Receiving Yards = 5 points + 2 Bonus = 7 Points.

Total = 36.60

The scoreboard has CJ with 36.60. You didn't lose any points that I can see...

No bother. I had to look and make sure in case I was being rode myself :D

At least your lad didn't take a knee at the one intentionally to burn time. Jaysus. See below. He apologised to Fantasy Owners, including himself :D

QuoteEAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP)—Maurice Jones-Drew(notes) saw a clear path to the end zone and somehow fought the urge to walk across the goal line.

The Jacksonville running back stopped at the 1 and took a knee, keeping the clock ticking and setting up Josh Scobee's(notes) 21-yard field goal that gave the Jaguars a 24-22 victory over the New York Jets as time expired Sunday.

"Sorry to my fantasy owners," Jones-Drew deadpanned. "I apologize. I had myself today. It was a tough call, but whatever it takes to get the victory, that's what counts."

With the Jaguars (5-4) facing second-and-6 from the 10, Jones-Drew took a handoff up the middle and went down to give Jacksonville first-and-goal from the 1 with about 1 1/2 minutes left.

"They said get a close as you can and take a knee," said Jones-Drew, who had an earlier 33-yard touchdown run. "I was looking for someone to tackle me."

New York (4-5) had no timeouts left, and the Jets offense could only watch from the sideline as the time melted away.

"Smartest play of the game," said Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez(notes), who read from a prepared statement before taking questions. "That's an MVP play right there."

Imagine if they missed the field goal!! :D

I'm going to limp into the playoffs (hopefully), but I have some VERY tasty matchups weeks 16 and 17 so I'm hoping to catch fire again then...

Untill then I need Cutler to start dumping off to Forte instead of throwing INTs and Mc Nabb to be consistent. Rest of my team is doing Ok. Only difference between now and early season is TDs. Hopefully they'll come.

The fear of having a so called "horror benching" is crippling me. I just can't bench some players because they are liable to have a big game but week in week out I don't have the balls to bench them. Its really a poor sign of my management. Beware Montana conference, if grow a pair and start benching, you could all be in trouble!

From the scores it looks like some lads have given up?

You should always play right through to the end, because you might be doing a potential playoff team a disservice by making it too easy on their competition.

Bombidal shall be retaining his crown. Bombidal is a bigger fan of the nfl.com ( much better game all game ) but yahoo one is fine by bombidal ( bombidal will be in a few nfl.com ones either way ), bombidal will win the yahoo one anyway. Seriously bombidal is going to create a dynasty. People on this board and beyond will be talking about bombidal's greatest for years to come. Peace out.

I also think he ranked half the Green Bay Packers high.

This is the last week alright, there's a fair scatter of lads on 7-7 in Montana.

Top 4 go into the playoffs next week and week 17. (Who has Manning and Brees? :) ).

Winners of the two conferences then have to submit playoff picks to me in the Superbowl competition.

Real close race in the Montana for the last play off place.
I needed to win added to a Badgers loss and make up the 51+ pts difference to catch him.

Currently am 1818.13 V 1806.88 ahead but the Badgers have 2 going tonight a TE and DL.
They should get the necessary points to clinch 4th.

The f**ker, it was my own fault. I was checking the actives/inactives about 5.45pm yesterday and saw Michael Turner was back so I put him in and he rewarded me with 1 carry for 7 yds. I should have left Fred Jackson in as he is a receiving RB and returns kicks.

Dont go to Coyotes in Galway anyway. Was there for the superbowl last year and a bunch of "locals" started a row with bout 6 mins left in the game, cops were called and we were all out on the street with about 4 mins left in the game. Luckily enough got a quick taxi and was home to see the very end of it...

Aye fair play, I wasn't holding out too much hope for Jacobs as he has been a big lump of dung all year (except for the week I benched him a couple of weeks ago and he had 2 TD's).

And with less than a quarter remaining for the last player left in my team I concede defeat to Jack Jack City.  Congrats on making the final.  My lowest score of the season in the most important game of the season, I'm disappointed that my team didn't put up a better performance.  I wish I could blame my teams shocking performance on Manning and Wayne being hauled off with the result of their game left in the balance but to be honest even if they were left on my other players just didn't perform to there best.

Oh well its been a massive improvement upon my other two seasons.  Good luck to both teams who make the final.

Woohoo! ;D

a VERY close win in a hard fought battle last night between myself and the Hitmen. I'd just like to thank Jay Feeley for the last 14 points I needed from him in the night game. I'd also like to thank all coaches who pulled their starters yesterday- Brad Childress, Wade Phillips, Mike McCarthy especially.

I'd also like to thank the Indianapolis Colts and Steven Jackson's Herniated Disk, without whom I wouldve lost the Semi!

Jammed it a bit in the end after a great start, but enjoyed this years league very much. Thanks AZ!

Thank God I went with the "I was Jammy" angle instead of doing a Bombidal on it.

On due reflection Id now like to thank stupid Donovan McNabb for f**king up my team last night. Even Matt Forte got into double figures!!!

My Clowns lost the Montana final to the Jets :'( :'(

Result:
Smackdown Clowns 98.61 Final
New York Jets III 142.07

I was gutted with players being rested. Lost starting QB, WR & 3RBs to resting...
Still, well done to the Jets III / ceiphas50...

Might be an idea for next year to have a look at amending our schedule so our final coincides with the 2nd last week of the season.
It should (in theory) reduce the effects on our league of teams resting players.

Well done to Ceiphas50. Keeps the conference title west of the shannon..

For the Superbowl lads, can the managers of the two conference champions (New York Jets III and Crossmaglen Hitmen) please send me your picks for the playoff games. You'll get 2 points for the correct winning team, and a bonus 3 points if you get the margin of victory right. Beware though, an incorrect pick will be minus two points. All predictions are for end of game (i.e. Overtime Counts, no ties).

For example, if you say the Packers will beat the Cardinals by 10, and they beat them by 7, you will get two points.

If they beat them by 7, you will get 5 points.

If the Cards win by any margin you will get minus two points.

Please PM me your picks before the first playoff game of the weekend. Any games not picked will automatically mean minus two points. Best of Luck...

The  Wildcard Weekend is:

Saturday January 9th

AFC Wildcard Game #1

New York Jets @ Cincinatti Bengals 9.30 PM Irish Time

NFC Wildcard Game #1

Philadelphia Eagles @ Dallas Cowboys 1.00 AM Irish Time

Sunday January 10th

AFC Wildcard Game #2

Baltimore Ravens @ New England Patriots 6.00 PM Irish Time

NFC Wildcard Game #2

Green Bay Packers @ Arizona Cardinals 9.40 PM Irish Time

Well I thought mc_grens, aka JACK JACK CITY, had me with his place kicker and the Jets running alll over the Bungals.
Low and behold when I checked tonight the stats where updated to give the HITMEN and a well scrambled lineup the championship. The 17th week championship makes it tough on all teams in the Fantasy league to put up a respectable lineup with teams pulling out their starters for the playoffs.

Hats off to mc_green for a fantastic season but just missing out.

That being said, I want to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for lifting the Hitmen to the championship also my assistant coaches, GM, support staff and the owners, Harp Lager, for letting the management run this team as we saw fit. We will reach for the stars and try for a repeat next season.

Here is a statement from the fans..............

Has anyone actually won two of these yet? I'm still hoping I can be the first multiple champion, and there's only one way to go after a first ever season with a losing record....  :)

Very hard to win two I would say, as you need a bit of luck in getting a good draft position and sometimes the players you draft and expect to play brilliantly can let you down.

My record so far
Season 2006: 2-13
Season 2007: 6-9
Season 2008: Missed
Season 2009: 10-5 and a first playoff appearance.

So I'm moving in the right direction.  ;D

Me and you are on Darelle Revis island on our own with the Jets Minder.

I just think the match up swings this the Jets way. They take away Benson with a top 5 run D. Revis takes away Ochocinco, and leave Palmer with nobody to throw it to.

The Jets let Sanchez throw no more than 15-20 times and run it all day. They won't mind thee and outs as they trust the D.

Jets in a close, low scoring game.

Aye two pretty average teams, Bengals O does not do enough. Ochocinco has been bothered by his knee and even at full pelt would have bother with Revis (probably the best CB in the NFL).

Well Lads, week 1 of the playoffs is done and dusted, and we have a leader.

DrinkingHarp -

Jets over Bengals by 5 - Correct Team 2 Points
Patriots over Ravens by 9 - Incorrect Minus 2 points
Cowboys over Eagles by 4 - Correct Team 2 points
Packers over Cardinals by 6 - Incorrect Minus 2 points

Total = Zero

Ceiphas50

Jets by 5 - Correct Team 2 Points
Cowboys by 9 - Correct Team 2 Points
Pats by 2 - Incorrect Minus 2 Points
Cardinals by 5 - Correct Team 2 points

Total = 4

So Ceiphas takes a 4 point lead into the Divisional round next weekend. Same drill again guys, PMs to me before first game of the weekend. Non Pick is minus 2 points.

Saturday January 16th

Arizona Cardinals @ New Orleans Saints  9.30 PM Irish Time

Baltimore Ravens @ Indianapolis Colts 1.30 AM Irish Time

Sunday January 17th

Dallas Cowboys @ Minnesota Vikings 6 PM Irish Time

New York Jets @ San Diego Chargers 9.40 PM Irish Time.

Some right dingers there. New Orleans - Cards could be another shootout, neither secondary would inspire confidence, apart from the odd big play. The Cardinals wouldn't have covered their bed last night.

I have a feeling both Cardinals and Saints 'D' will be better than they have been, so I see the Saints winning by 10, with a couple of turnovers from Warner. :(

I think number 18 will be the difference in Indy, as he has too many targets. I think the Ravens will keep it tight early, and I expect Rice to run well, but I think Flacco will have to have at least 150 yards through the air in this game, which means he'll be throwing a fair bit from behind. I think the Colts by 13.

Jets will stick it to the Chargers early too, but Revis can't shut down everyone. I expect Gates and LT out of the backfield to catch passes, and I expect Sanchez, like Flacco, to be chasing the game a bit. If the Jets keep it to a game where running will win it for them, they could well do it, but I think the Chargers will enter the 4th up by 10-14 points, and will pick Sanchez off to win it. Chargers by 10

Finally, a toss up. Can Favre have time to hit Rice, Shianko, Berrian et al? Will Peterson run like he did early in the season, or will the trifecta of running backs run all day for the Cowboys and give Romo time to pick apart the Viking's secondary like Warner did in Arizona to the Vikings. I think the latter. Cowboys by 6.

Hi Lads,

Based on the predictions last week...

Drinking Harp was on 0 Points, Ceiphas50 was on 4.

Last week Drinking Harp got another 0 points. 2 correct, 2 incorrect.

Ceiphas got another 4 points via 3 correct and one incorrect.

That gives Ceiphasa a commanding 8 point lead with 3 games to go. Drinking Harps needs results and maybe a correct margin or two to really swing it back his way.

Fixtures this week.

NFC Conference Championship Game

Minnesota Vikings @ New Orleans Saints

AFC Conference Championship Game

New York Jets @ Indianapolis Colts

Picks to be in before kickoff for the first game.

The cumulation of our Fantasy Superbowl is also this weekend. Ceiphas holds a 4 point advantage over Drinking Harp.

The scores so far...

Wildcard Weekend

Drinking Harp 0 points (2 right, 2 wrong)
Ceiphas50 4 points (3 right, 1 wrong)

Divisional Playoffs

Dringing Harp 0 points (4 right, 4 wrong)
Ceiphas50 8 points (6 right, 2 wrong)

Conference Finals
Drinking Harp 4 points (6 right, 4 wong)
Ceiphas50 8 points (7 right, 3 wrong)

drinking harp only needs a correct prediction with Ceiphas getting the wrong team to draw level on 6 apiece. If Harp manages the exact score difference, he'll take it 9-6.

On the basis that a draw is a possible outcome, we need tiebreakers before the fact.

So, 1st Tie Breaker - Total Number of points. (Closest wins, over or under)
if level, 2nd Tie Breaker - Total Passing Touchdowns combined.
3rd Tie Breaker - Total Running Touchdowns combined.
4th Tie Breaker - total Points First Quarter
5th Tie Breaker - Total Points First Half.

If ye are still level after 5 tiebreakers, we have our first shared Superbowl.....

Best of Luck.

Well the results are in, and after both finalists piced the Colts to beat the Saints, the winner, on a scoreline of 6-2 is
Ceiphas50

Ceiphas50 finished with a season record of 13-2, good enough to give him the number one seed in the Montana Conference, with a superb 2035.69 total points (an unreal average of 135.66 points for the 15 regular season weeks).

He carried that form into the playoffs where he took care of The Royal Badgers in a high scoring conference semi final, on a scoeline of 159.89 to 126.07. The Conference final saw him take on the #3 seed Smackdown Clowns, who themselves had an epic 160.29 points to 143.91 victory over the 2 seeded Galway Bay Tribesmen.  The Clowns never rose to the same heights in the final, and the New York Jets III went one better than the New York Jets of the NFL, by coasting to the superbowl on a 142.07 to 98.61 scoreline.

In the Superbowl predictions competition, he met up with the Victor of the Payton Conference, also the #1 seed, Crossmaglen Hitmen and Drinking Harp. The Hitmen had a 11-4 record, with 1775.92  points, and they also upheld the formbook by taking out the 4th seeded Mayo Warriors, and the 2nd seed (and highest point scorer in regular season) Jack JAck City in a tight final (125.09 to 120.41).

So, it gives me great pleasure to announce that Ceiphas50, manager of the New York Jets III is GaaBoard Superbowl V Champion. Drew Brees Picked up the trophy on your behalf Ceiplas. Well done, and here's to 2010.

Title: Re: GAABoard Fantasy NFL - Superbowl V - Champion Crowned
Post by: AZOffaly on February 10, 2010, 01:42:31 PM
The GAA Board Fantasy All Stars.

Based on our Positions, and our Point Categories, the following is the All Star team for 2010.

Quarterback - Aaron Rogers - Green Bay Packers.

Rogers enjoyed a stellar 2009, as he made fans in Green Bay hopeful that the ghost of Favre would soon be a thing of the past. Unfortunate to have a couple of bad plays in the Playoffs, he still showed enough in the game against the Arizona Cardinals that he is a quarterback of the future, on a high powered Offense. Rogers racked up 4,424 passing yards, 30 TDs with only 7 INTS. He rushed for another 316 yards and 5 TDs for a total of 269.48 points.

Wide Receiver #1 - Andre Johnson - Houston Texans.

The Texans missed the playoffs, but not much blame could be laid at the door of the 6' 3'' Miami product. Johnson led our Fantasy stats for all WRs with 101 receptions and 1569 yards. One of the best receivers in the game, he also contributed 9 touchdown catches for a total of 255.95 points. At just 29 years of age this July, Johnson has the time to build on his already fearsome reputation.

Wide Receiver #2 - Wes Welker - New England Patriots.

Injury disrupted Welker's post season, with a serious knee injury picked up against Houston in week 17, and there are doubts about his capacity to be the same Wes Welker when he returns. However there are no doubts that he was Tom Brady's go to guy in 2009, and is a prolific possession receiver. Operating largely out of the slot, he was targetted early and often in the Patriots passing game, and his stats bear this out. 123 receptions, for 1348 yards but only 4 TDs are testament to his role with the Pats, and his 252.82 points are pretty useful for a Fantasy Owner as well.

Running Back #1 - Chris Johnson - Tennessee Titans

Recognised now as the number 1 back in the league, Johnson lived up to that billing in our stats. The 24 year old 2nd year pro from East Carolina university lit up opposing run defenses in 2009, as he racked up 2006 yards and 14 TDs. He also caught 50 balls for 503 yards and a pair of TDs on his way to a huge 309.45 points. He seems to be agitating for more money at the moment, but assuming that doesn't distract him, and he steers clear of injury, it's a fair bet that Johnson will be the consensus #1 pick in next years Fantasy drafts.

Running Back #2 - Maurice Jones Drew - Jacksonville Jaguars.

Where would the Jags be without Jones Drew? It's a question not many Jacksonville fans would care to contemplate as the pocket dynamo (5' 7'') becomes the 3rd member of our All Star team to play for a non-playoff team. The Jags finished 7-9 and bottom of the AFC south with Jones' 1391 rushing yards, 15 rushing TDs, 53 receptions and 1 reception TD. His 256.29 points were probably more valuable to Fantasy Owners, but the Jags could well have been vying for the worst record in Football without him. Owners will watch the Jags in the off season, but it's likely to be more of the same next year, which is good news for his Fantasy value, bad for his real life prospects.

Flex Player (WR or RB) - Randy Moss - New England Patriots

The Patriots get another WR into the All Star team as Moss sneaks in as the best WR/RB not already on the team, and he managed another very good year numbers wise, despite the suspicion that he was not operating at 100% all the time. Moss hauled in only 83 balls, for 1264 yards, but he added 13 TDs for 244.20 Fantasy points. Moss has been one of the elite receivers for years in the NFL, but has been overtaken by Fitzgerald, Jennings, Johnson and even Welker in the public's perception. His stats say he still should be considered one of the genuine class operators at this level.

Tight End - Dallas Clark - Indianapolis Colts

The tight end position is experiencing a bit of a boom at the moment, as many offences see their Tight End as more than just a third down, check down receiver who is more used as an auxiliary lineman. People like Tony Gonzalez, Antonio Gates, Jason Witten and Todd Heap have led the way, but this year the man looking down on the rest with an impressive 225.85 fantasy points is Payton Manning's favourite guy, Dallas Clark. Clark fills the 'possession receiver' role that Wes Welker has made his own in New England, and he is frequently the #1 target for Manning, as well as picking up his fair share of balls as a 2nd or 3rd choice check down. In 2009, Clark caught 100 balls for 1106 yards, which would be very good numbers for a pure WR. He turned 10 of those catches into TDs, and all in all had another great Dallas Clark year for his fantasy, and real life, owners.

Kicker - Nate Kaeding - San Diego Chargers

It's been a funny old season for kickers, with huge numbers of big kicks missed, not least in the post season. It even affected Mr. Automatic, and our All Star in the Position, Nate Kaeding, in the post season as he almost single handedly dumped his Chargers out of the running at home to the Jets. It led to calls for his head from the Charger fans, but during the fantasy season there was quite simply no one better than the kicker from Iowa. He had 12 points to spare over his nearest challenger in our Fantasy league as he hit 32 out of 35 kicks and 50 of 51 PATS for 152 points. Unless he gets the road in the summer, he's probably another nailed on big producer next season.

Team Defense/Special Teams - San Francisco 49ers

It may be strange that an 8-8 team provide the best team defense/special teams in fantasy terms, but that's the case in our league as the NFC West 2nd place 49ers take the All Star award from the New York Jets. They allowed 275 points, but had some very impressive stats in other areas. 44 sacks, 18 Interceptions, 15 Fumbles recovered, 4 TDs and 2 Blocked Kicks all added up to an impressive 259 points. With the Niners expected to push on again next year, this Defense and Special Teams Unit may be worth picking up in the draft.

Defensive Back #1 - Charles Woodson - Green Bay Packers

There are sneaky points to be picked up with individual defense stats in our league, and the top man this year, also recognised at NFL level as defensive player of the year, was Woodson, the Corner for the Green Bay Packers. Woodson contributed 165.75 points this season as he made 66 tackles, 2 sacks, 9 Interceptions, 4 Forced Fumbles, and 3 TDs. Woodson may find himself being bypassed by opposing offenses next season, as he is one of the most feard ball hawks in the game.

Defensive Back #2 - Bernard Pollard - Houston Texans

The tough tackling safety from Purdue is the surprise 2nd ranked DB this season, as he weighed in with 139 points. A lot of his total was made up from 82 tackles, a lot of which were in the run game, but he also chipped in with 4 INTs, 3 Fumble recoveries and 2 TDs. A fine season on a team that missed the playoffs, and fantasy owners would love something similar next season.

Defensive Line/Linebacker #1 - Jared Allen - Minnesota Vikings

The mulleted madman from Idaho State proved himself one of the leagues most feared pass rushers again in 2009. His outstanding speed off the ball makes him a nightmare to block, and any team that tries to single team him on a passing down usually sees their QB picking grass off his facemask. Allen had 14.5 sacks in 2009, along with 1 safety, an Interception, 3 fumble recoveries and a TD. Not bad for a 4th round draft choice in 2004. All that amounted to a lot of pain for QBs, and 148 points for his fantasy owners.

Defensive Line/Linebacker #2 - Elvis Dumervil - Denver Broncos

The versatile Dumervil enhanced his already glowing reputation as a Linebacker who can double as a Defensive End in the NFL as he marauded his way to 17 sacks in 2009. His pass rush is another based on power and speed, and coming from the Linebacker position, he can really lay the timber on opposing QBs. He doesn't have gaudy stats like Allen in other areas, with only 1 recovered fumble and no TDs, but his overall effectiveness in the box for the Broncos meant he ended up with 132 points. Another 4th round pick, in 2006, from Louisville, he goes from strength to strength.
