General discussion / Re: Brexit.
« on: Today at 05:26:47 PM »
I'm sure Hartlepool has had an MP in some shape or form for a lifetime but this constituency is only on the go since the 1970s.

They would have lost seat in the last election only the Brexit party refused to stand aside as they thought they'd a real chance, they did but split the vote and Labour got returned. The result is not unexpected no matter what the Tory press say, but it is a sad indictment of  the state (& perhaps decline) of the Labour Party and the continued rise of English Nationalism under the Tories.

The continual bickering with the EU is a Tory tactic too, it keeps that Brexity conflict flame flickering.

Labour are effectively a centre right party now with a millionaire Sir as the leader.

Not much appeal there for working class voters, they are now just effectively Diet Tories under the leadership of Starmer.

Starmer's background is as working class as they come - father being a toolmaker. Worked hard and made a success of himself, an example to anyone from his upbringing. No comparison between he and the gilded, entitled, public-school attending Tory elite. Whatever his shortcomings are as a party leader, he comes across as a decent, conscientious politician, unlike the incompetent and mendacious charlatans now populating the Tories since BJ shunted the calm and level-headed Remainers from the party.

I too think he's decent and conscientious but he does seem a bit airy fairy on some topics and whilst he cuts Boris a new arsehole every PM's Questions he doesn't instill a fighting spirit within the party and evidently appeal to the working class masses.

The Pro Boris media treat him like the grey man that used to be the moniker of John Major.
Starmer was bought  by the Israeli lobby. The last thing Israel wants is a left wing Government.
Starmer was also bought by the plutocrats. The last thing they want is a left wing Government.

But it is inevitable.

A left wing government in Britain looks a million miles away right now.
Apart from Blair's New Labour, the party has been in the wilderness for most of the past 50 years.

Too many working class British people lap up the Tory propaganda from The Sun and other places.

So true.

Many get their news and opinions and 'knowledge' from these places and the likes of Facebook.

Hence Brexit - they were fed a load of nonsense and that was that

City v Chelsea is the petrochemical super league final in all but name, pure pish, glad Madrid didn't make the final to add a bit of gravitas to the occasion. Surely the final moves to Wembley?

Wembley booked for the play offs that weekend but Villa Park is apparently looking to take it.

What is the reason for moving it?

Two English clubs have played in a final before and it wasnt moved.

Istanbul it is - with minimal fans from each club at it  ::)

Never drank at college (90-94) so was able to go out every night, had a weekly routine, think the Chaplency was a Monday night for the Irish night, great craic. The crescent was a regular spot but never felt safe in it, the Union ran a great night (might have been Weds?), actually had my stag night in it (got married the week after my finals, think i was the only student in Belfast that was engaged at college, this partly explains why I didn’t drink. The best spot was I think called The Elms, it was just before you came to Lavery’s, some great bands in it, think it may have been the Thursday night spot. Lavery’s was a complete no no then days, full of the Village gentlemen, Hatfield also a definite no no then, was locals only. Bishops on a Sunday evening was the great food wise, beside that was a constant diet of spuds, beans and sausages and penguin biscuits that I shared with the mice in my bedroom, except my final year I lived in Stranmillis when Sphinx and the Chinese beside it were my local chefs. Have two children up there now, really feel for them as covid has wrecked a year and a half of their college life, holy lands is full of Romanians now.
I was around the same era, Blackthorn in the Elms on.a Thursday was a big draw back then , the Fly on a Tuesday night was popular too,as were   The Bot,& Renshaws , , we would have been in the middle bar in laverys  regularly enough back then and never had any hassle to be honest . ,Spuds or Bishops being the late night eating houses

Had the Elms the L shaped pool table?

It was some load of shite

I was there on Sunday and hope this is the start of it. The level of ignorance in the media from so called pundits is hard to believe, a couple of minutes research and you could see why United fans are so unhappy.

I'm sure I'll be criticised but Fergie disgusts me with his antics, happy to keep quiet as he's still on the payroll.

I've mentioned this before they bring next to nothing in terms of expertise to the club, their rich kids living of daddy's inheritance. I keep hearing United have spent big money which they did during the LVG/Mourinho ear's but either side of those years its not been good enough, a great side was allowed to break up in 2009 and money which should have been given to Fergie was spent on interest repayments contrary to what Fergie says, the accounts don't lie. OT was once one of Europe's best grounds but its not any more and the training ground which was the best in country is now not even in the top 5 or 6.

They appointment Woodward a man who knows nothing about football along with owners who know even less, clearly this was going to lead to big issues which it did.

There's not exactly man people who can afford to buy the club and 50 + 1 is not remotely a realistic possibility given the value of the club but United are probably the most famous sports organisation can still be bought given Barca/Real are owned by their members so there will be people interested. The Glazers will maintain they have no interest in selling which everyone knows is not true, they'll sell when the time and price is right and that can be brought forward with protests and disruption to the brand and its sponsors as they'd put it.

Speaking of Fergie on the payroll - is Schmeichel on the payroll there?

I dont think any other former players have come out in support of the Glazers have they?

The performances over those two legs were as good as we have played in a long time.

Solid and composed at the back. Stones has really benefitted from having Ruben Dias beside him - Dias makes him look a superstar because he is so dominant. I would go so far to say he will be better than VVD very soon. He is only 24 or so.

No idea how Fernandinho didnt get a card last night. He was superb mind you.

Foden, KDB & Mahrez worked their socks off and never gave PSG any peace.

Sterling's form has completely fallen off a cliff - I would like to see him playing better so there is more competition for places.

PSG are a different beast without Mbappe - Neymar is over rated IMHO.

This is the best chance we will ever have to win the CL - have to take it

The red to the bottom left that Selby potted was superb - for all his safety play this was probably the shot of the match

Selby must be an absolute nightmare to play against.

Ah it’s grand lads nobody died so we’re golden!

FFS! It’s f**king bananas a load of stupid c***ts want one billionaire owner out to get another in and expect things will be done differently. As if they haven’t spent as much money as anyone else on managers or players the last 10 years!

Typical United pretend they’re the best fans in the world when they’re winning then throw the toys out of the pram when they realise they aren’t special and are just another club.

Horrible outfit.
Before the Glazers buyout United didnt need a billionaire owner. They create enough finance on their own back to compete at the highest level. If you had a notion what you were talking about you might see that.  The Glazers bought the club with leveraged debt and havent paid it off. Theyve taken a billion out of the club in 16 years. They dont engage with fans. The fans have been demonstrating for 16 years. Some scenes yesterday were unacceptable. But the majority of fans were peaceful.  Glazers have no interest in football. Utd fans dont claim to be special and it doesnt mean more than other clubs

Tough f**king shit, did the Galzers put the club on the stock exchange, no, have they done anything illegal, no, does the club or sport governing body give one f**k about the supporters, no. Then again why should they, look at what the so called "supporters" (neanderthals) did yesterday.

MU is the same as every other club in the PL, a sports entertainment franchise. The Glazers own MU fair and square, its their perogative to f**k about with the finances as they see fit, they're 3000 miles away getting the balls sucked aff them while this cash cow continues to print money for them, they have no obligation to sell, for people to spout that, esp Baroness Neville herself is just absolutely pafetic.

Imagine evening posting this  ;D ;D

So someone congratulates a child on making their communion/confirmation - so what?

f**k me.

Its a milestone in a childs life - kids have enough pressures and challenges nowadays without someone feeling the need to question why they are being congratulated.

Only saw highlights of the game but Pogba, Fernandes and Cavani were all involved in some brilliant passages of play. I’d say Utd will be doing whatever they can to get Cavani to stay another season because it’s unlikely they are going to get a Haaland or a Kane. His finish for his 1st goal and his pass for Greenwood’s were both of the highest quality.

Not sure where Roma got their sub keeper from mind you.  ;D

It seemed to me the keeper was playacting after a decent save - screaming and roaring in pain and the next minute he was fine and moving the arm freely.

Looked like it was too late then & he got hooked  ;D
