ETH has definitely  signed his fair share  of stinkers, but you could also  say  the only signing  that proved a success since Fergie retired, was Zlatan

As for Hojlund,  as much as I want him to  succeed , it was mad spending  70+ million when another few quid  would have got you Kane , a proven goal scorer

There's a shortage of top centre forwards about and the board wouldn't go for Kane, United overpaid for Hojlund as Atlanta had them by the balls as there was other clubs were in for him. I like what he brings to the team and expect him to be eventually to be a success although another centre forward has to be signed.

Hope this major clearout comes this summer, Dalot and Wan Bisaka continue to depress me! Just not good enough but you can't help feel that Ten Hag likes Dalot, more so for his ability to beat the press because it can't be much else. I'd keep Varane ahead of Maguire & Lindelof but can't blame him for wanting to leave if the club are trying to renegotiate his contract.

Casemiro was outstanding last season but been poor on the few occasions he's played this season so is playing for his future but given his age and astronomical wages they might sell him anyway.

We're all looking for some competency in the transfer market, no manager gets every signing right but Uniteds strike record is utterly appalling the last decade and that has to change.

Genuinely hoping that the new structure will stop the scatter gun approach of recent seasons in the market. Big ask but here's hoping.

Would like to think so, United could have had Bellingham for £25m and Haaland for a pittance but didn't for different reasons. Talks of Ratcliffe buying others clubs which makes sense at Brexit is limiting United buying younger players like City have done.

Antony for £80m will go down as United's worst signing of all time, Ten Hag should have known better but Murtough will have had to go his boss and make the case too; Know for a fact that United's in-house scouting/analyists didn't rate him and wasn't high up on their list. If he really is on wages of £200k he'll be a lot harder to shfit then Sancho/

Mainoo and Garnacho both look like top players in the making so its not all doom and gloom.

Agree on Mainoo and Garnacho.
Recruitment simply has to be better. Certainly buying 30 year olds and putting them on enormous contracts simply has to stop. It's the behaviour of Camel League clubs.

Quote from: 5times5times on January 09, 2024, 10:43:23 AMETH has made 16 signings so far.. Have any of them worked????

  • Martínez + Casemiro always croked @ £107m total
  • Antony, maybe one of worst players to ever play for MUFC?
  • Mount @ £55m, another WTF signing
  • Højlund, 9 goals in Serie A...
  • 4 keepers, and all dung so far, esp Onana.

  • Tyrell Malacia, £15.7m
  • Christian Eriksen, free
  • Lisandro Martínez, £56.7m
  • Casemiro, £52m
  • Antony, £85.6m
  • Martin Dubravka, loan
  • Wout Weghorst, loan
  • Jack Butland, loan
  • Marcel Sabitzer, loan
  • Mason Mount, £55m
  • André Onana, £44.1m
  • Rasmus Højlund, £72m
  • Jonny Evans, free
  • Altay Bayindir, £4.3m
  • Sofyan Amrabat, loan
  • Sergio Reguilón, loan

Half the signings are free or loan deals not the way any serious club should operate.

On Harry Kane would Tottenham allow him to be sold to another Premier league club and would Harry want to join especially when Bayern Munich declared an interest?

I think it was made pretty clear at the time that Levy wouldn't sell to United. So not sure it is fair to blame them on this one.

thewobbler

Levy had little or nothing to do with it. Harry Kane wasn't leaving Spurs so he could go sideways / backwards with United. It's not 2004 anymore folks.

Cunny Funt

From Premierleague.com

The United players with the most shots this season

1. Fernandes 47
2. Garnacho 43
3. Marcus Rashford 42

On Target

1. Fernandez 17
2. McTominay 14
3. Rashford 12

Your forward should be top of the list for shots but Rasmus Højlund in comparison shots 19 and on target 8.  There was an article published in the telegraph recently stating he received the fewest passes of any forward in the league which explains why he isn't in the top three for shots.  Last night chances was created for him and unlucky not to score at least one goal. That was against a league one outfit and on Sunday against Tottenham it will likely be back to the norm of this season with the likes of Fernandez,McTominay,Rashford and Garnacho taking on shots than to create chances for Rasmus.

Casemiro and Varane went backwards.  As did Mount , well sideways at least.   Onana and Antony  moved to a club with as  much chance (or less) of  success as the clubs they were with.  Their wages likely quadrupled  at United , so   Kane  could have been possible  had he been  offered a silly money contract

Armagh18

I'm not comparing the two and obviously Haaland is a much better player at this point, but swap him and Hojlund and Haaland would be struggling in that United team as well. Hojlund would score plenty in that City team.

United need to get away from giving wankers crazy money. Young hungry lads like Garnacho are the way forward. Pricks like Sancho are a waste of time getting a clean fortune and not giving a f**k. Antony isn't good enough but his effort can't be faulted.

I think Sancho will do fine back at Dortmund.

Yeah he will because he will be a big fish again in a relatively small pond. He proved that he couldn't hack it on the pitch and off it at Utd, hasn't got the mentality to be at the very top.

Best move for him and the club to get him out of there and away from the team. Will be interesting to see if it affects Rashford in any way.

snoopdog

Problem is , sancho will be back again next season. As you say stupid wages has meant a lot of these flops are impossible to move on.
Rashford could've been sold in the summer for big money. Won't be so attractive this summer with his lack of effort this season. Hard to  believe a local lad switches off so frequently. He isn't even playing to ensure his euro place.
