I only picked up the last 15mins on that radio link, they were 1-12 to 1-06 down and came with a rattle but D'gal just held on. I've no idea on the balance of play up to then

That U-14 match between Downpatrick and St Pauls was a cracking wee match with Downpatrick winning 2-09 to 0-13 after both sides had dominated for periods and both had probably thought they had the game won.
The East Down Chairman acting as an umpire insisted that a very young referee sent 2 players off in injury time after they had a wee coming together and tried (but failed) to hit each other.
A more experienced ref without the pressure of the Board Chairman on his back would have had a word with the 2 boys  and let them on as it wasn't a dirty game and it was all but over.

My comment was no reflection on Davy Harte who I agree has been one of the most consistent performers over the last few seasons.
I simply think that when Sean O Neill gets the chance to establish himself (and Davy's injury miy give him that chance) he may then prove hard to leave out.

If there is no Davy Harte that will leave space for Sean O Neil to make his championship debut and Davy might have a struggle to get the shirt back.

The Cavan v Fermanagh fixture next Saturday (30th) is a minor game brought forward due to the leaving cert I think.
The senior fixture isn't for a few weeks yet

Apols Zulu but I've never cought the hang of this insert quote function so can't quote you back before commenting.

I appreciate your comments and agree that it is time I stopped sitting on my hands and raise this issue at an agm. This is something I have considered doing for the past 2 years but didn't, not wanting to rock the boat etc

When I have raised the issue outside of meetings with committee members or the club chairman I get given the same  explaination that without the payment of expenses it would be impossible to get a manager/coach for the senior team. I do understand this difficult position position but if payments were outlawed and the payment of ligimate travel overseen by the county board then a lot of these managers for hire would have little option but to return to the service of their own club if they want to continue their involvement in the sport therefore taking away the market forces that buts my club and many others in the difficult position.

I also agree with you that if an expert paid coaching input is warranted anywhere within the club then it is at the youth level benefitting the future of the club.

As the GAA has allowed for the payment of retainers or inflated expenses to managers/trainers/coaches to develop with its knowledge (official or otherwise) I think that rather than make public comment about this alleged case or that alleged sase the association should concentrate on putting in place a process that manages out the worst of these practices.

My suggestion would be that at club level no club should be allowed to make expenses payments directly to players, coaches, managers, trainers, physios, doctors etc. All claims for payments should be made to the County Board who should in turn bill the club.
Similarly at county level all expenses claims should be handled by the respective provincial boards and not the county boards who would in turn be billed by the provincial board. These steps would bring a little more clarity and openness to the process. Unfortunately it wouldn't stop ilegal undeclared payments from individual bussiness men to managers etc but it would serve to isolate these as illegal undeclared payments.

My own small Junior club spent approx 30% of its income last year on payments (exxpenses) to the manager of its senior team. now this club had  5 other teams in competition last year (more this year) but only one person associated with one team warranted the payment of expenses.
I don't believe the situation is right and I feel that the use of this money for this purpose in my club is stifiling the development of other areas of the club. On one occasion when I was washing the reserve team shirts, 2 of them fell apart in the washing machine such was their age and state of repair. As my club only has 1 pitch we are in need of some grade of lighting on at least some of the pitch to allow evening outdoor training outside of the summer months.   These and other investment needs are made more unlikely by the payment of so called expenses to the senior team manager
