Title: Club AGM - No one going forward for chairperson
Post by: thebackbar1 on January 04, 2022, 10:25:52 AM
Our club AGM is next weekend, the current chairperson is stepping down, but no one is remotely interested in taking over from her. What happens in the situation where a chairperson can't be found ? can a club still register and field teams ?

While it's obviously not a good position for the club to be in, they should still be able to register their teams and play. The secretary would normally look after that.

How can you run a meeting without a chair?

It's all in the constitution.

Trustees should be called on to provide guardianship and tap up whoever they can. Keep calling Special General Meetings until someone waves their hand. In the meantime The appointed committee would nominate a chair for each committee meeting ie for the meeting only, not the club.

The committee can appoint a new chair ( or indeed any position) not filled  at the AGM , at the first committee meeting.
Vice - chair should lead meetings in absence of a chair in first instance

Volunteerism is dying!

So much governance and treating clubs like businesses and parents like customers....time is our most precious commodity...people don't want to give it up for free....

very true, giving up your free time for potentially such scrutiny, not very appetising.
