Not sure of the exact details of Cummings actions but it raises an important question for all parents with children in the scenario where you both get sick and are unable to care for the children.
It's something my wife and I have discussed and we didnt really come up with a good solution as most of our back up care givers would be high risk and the children could well be asymptomatic carriers that could pass it on to them.

Ketchup is one of the few useful things that America has given the world.

Au contraire:

In the 17th century, the Chinese mixed pickled fish and spices and called it (in the Amoy dialect) kôe-chiap or kê-chiap (鮭汁, Mandarin Chinese guī zhī, Cantonese gwai1 zap1) meaning the brine of pickled fish (鮭, salmon; 汁, juice) or shellfish.[7][8] By the early 18th century, the table sauce had arrived in the Malay states (present day Malaysia and Singapore), where English colonists first tasted it. The Malaysian-Malay word for the sauce was kicap or kecap (pronounced [kɛt͡ʃap]). That word evolved into the English word "ketchup".[9] English settlers took ketchup with them to the American colonies.

Whatever about  the word, tomatoes originated in  America and they rather than pickled fish are the basis of ketchup.

Whatever about the origin of the stuff I thought that the debate wudda been about the usefulness of the stuff.... clean rotten too!

What is the "everything else" that we are elevating scientists over?

There's more to intelligence than passing exams. So we elevate exam passers.
So, who should we be looking to, trusting and following the advice of in a global pandemic?

You're missing my point. We should be able to trust experts. But we put so much weight on people who can sit exams we've filled these positions with those sort of people. Are they the best minds available? Same can be said for economists, financiers and those who hold the levers of power to some extent.
These people we deem intelligent because they can pass the leaving very or A levels are now in charge of our collective fates. And last time I looked they were doing a pretty shit job.

Im confused what is you point? That our education system is overly reliant on exams or is it that "experts" dont know anything because they can pass exams? But Never mind the fact that most experts in science would have attained their status by completing a PhD but sure knock herself out.

Do kerry have some sorta campaign goin or something? Spillane twice as many votes as the next man...I mean how many really mind him playing like? I'm no nipper and i only mine seeing him running around like a headless chicken agin down in 91.

And Then theres Marc O'Se..... ;D ;D which is still hilarious esp after watching Michael Meehans destruction of him in 2008. At the time I thought that this was the point that the consensus became that his POTY award was a farce.

Spillane was 36 in 1991. He was in his 17th year as a Kerry Footballer and one of the pioneers to make a come back from Cruciate ligament injury in 1983, when the such an injury meant the end of ones sporting career back then. To surmise that he was useless based on a performance in 1991 when he was an old man (football wise) is madness.

If there is any gripe about Spillane being picked as a half forward, it's that he rarely play there. He played all over the pitch. The lad in his prime was everywhere on the pitch! And that half of his best football was played pre-1980.

My point is that it's been 30 years since he played and prob nearly 40 since his prime, your prob ruling out half the viewing public in that case but still hes got twice as many as anyone else.
To vote for him based on what others declare him to be is madness

It is widely reported that almost one quarter of children in the US do not have enough to eat. Now this seems rather dramatic as you could eat healthily on a modest enough budget, but it also shows a country in a mess.

Does Simon Harris strike anybody else as a goody two shoes on a power trip?..... in the Alex Attwood mould

Another south/north battle!!!

Attwood wins hands down, that carry on where he supposedly couldn't resign his post in stormont, but (at apparent great difficulty to himself  ::) ) was giving his salary back was beyond pathetic.

Are Tyrone fans the closest thing to rangers fans in GAA? When it comes to being completely obsessed they're two peas in a pod!

I'd say a more apt comparison would be Derry with the Orange Order.

You can see here that all the Derry lads stand for is being anti-Tyrone, zero interest in their own county, complete antipathy as to how they can get behind their teams and move forward, cavemen stuck in the past and fuelled on sheer hatred and vitriol. The permanently raging Derry fans here are just counter-culture, their whole identity is built on foundations of hate and bitterness. They would derive more joy out of Tyrone losing than Derry winning which is very sad.

Dear oh dear....a few feathers ruffled here with this. Unfortunately the truth seems to hurt lads. You can kick and scream all you like, but the fact doesn't change, in the Gaa in Ireland Tyrone are universally detested. Again, nothing to do with their success (as Down are more successful and also from the six counties), all to do with the collective herd mentality of their supporters and the dark arts employed on the pitch. I've been at several big games over the years v Mayo, Dublin Kerry, Sligo, Meath, Armagh, Donegal....common denominator is always how embarrassing the language and behaviour of the Tyrone supporters is. Same in any bar I've been in when you get chatting to anyone in the 26. Very quickly, you have to clarify that you are NOT from Tyrone.

Was on a bus once in Dublin for a concert, there was a loch of Derry wans on it to. The Dubs were fierce keen to know what part of Scotland they were all from!
