Quote from: Wildweasel74 on March 27, 2024, 08:51:12 PMWell there wasn't 4k at home for Derry last week, Celtic Park had fair crwods for Dublin,Tyrone,Monaghan. So not sure what we bring.

Derry are big shots now, sure you wouldn't be bothered looking at Roscommon but Dublin are respectable opposition.

Armagh held out to win 2-09 to 2-07 after some panic near the end when Cavan scrambled a goal. Cavan should have taken points then.
Like the senior team, Armagh proved capable of disciplined defence for the most part, although there were a few stupid frees given away and the ball was moved up a couple of time, again that doesn't help.

Cavan and Armagh is on it tonight

Quote from: RedHand88 on March 27, 2024, 10:52:10 AMWas looking at patio furniture last night online and then thought what is the point. Be better spending the money on a fill of heating oil.

Trying to get the ground dry for rotavating and sowing. It'll be September before its dry at this rate.

Yet rainfall in Donegal and Sligo is below average so far this year.

They don't have to travel, they get a home game as usual.

Quote from: Bord na Mona man on March 26, 2024, 06:21:45 PMThe NATO expansion and sorting out the 'Nazi' problem were never Russia's main reasons for invading though. It's a talking point thrown out as a distraction and unfortunately amplified by Putin sympathisers in the West, even in Ireland.

It's just an old fashioned land grab and because Putin took Ukrainian territory so easily in 2014, he thought his 2022 special military operation would be straightforward too.

Exactly, a land grab. Everything else is just an excuse.

Quote from: gallsman on March 26, 2024, 05:38:40 PMThe point is about cost. Publicans aren't paying 6e to buy in a pint.

A pint of Estrella Damm will cost you the same in Belfast as a pint of Guinness, and that's not Diageo. Why?

Diageo may be comparatively expensive but the point of sale in Ireland gouges far, far worse than the big bad multinational.

There is a cost to running a pub, a restaurant charges more for a steak than a butcher does. However, the prices in Belfast seem to be taking the piss.

Quote from: PadraicHenryPearse on March 26, 2024, 05:30:02 PMAs for Nazis in Ukraine, they have been Nazis there a long time, thousands of Jews murdered in Ww2 in Ukraine. those who committed those murders have been celebrated in recent years. To claim there is no Nazis and it is kremlin dung is wrong. There are Nazis probably in every country, eastern europe/russia appear to have a higher %. that doesnt make it a credible justification,

Of course there are Nazis in every country, but elections show that there are few in most places, including Ukraine. You cannot invade a place on the basis that there might be one Nazi there.

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on March 25, 2024, 09:49:39 PMShow on bbc2 there about Ukraine  front line. Tough watch, hard going out there. be a understatement.

I didn't see this one. But these are usually filmed from the Ukrainian side, the Russian side is much worse where you get ordered to attack in a golf cart and a drone will remove you from existence before you can even reach the front line,

Quote from: imtommygunn on March 26, 2024, 12:24:56 PMAh yes covid year.

Basically for roscommon, and anyone else, to get to the semi final they need to avoid derry, dublin and kerry in any knock out match. They then probably need to meet someone of comparable level in the knockout to get through. Tyrone, Mayo, Galway, possibly Donegal and Armagh would likely be too much.

Exactly. There are 11 teams who can expect to make the top 12 resulting from the group stages, this year's Div 1 + Armagh, Donegal and perhaps Cork. Last year Sligo, Clare , Westmeath and Louth did not make it to the final 12 and something the same will happen this year. Three of the preliminary QFs last year had one point margins, pne nad pass or ball dropped and the result might have been different.
The Sam series is actually quite competitive other than Dublin are going to win it.

The Paddy Power Ranking

Dublin 13/8
Kerry 5/2
Derry 11/2
Galway 9/1
Mayo 10/1
Armagh 20/1
Donegal 22/1
Tyrone 25/1
Roscommon 80/1
Cork 100/1
Monaghan 100/1

I'm not sure that Galway/Mayo are hugely better than Armagh/Donegal/Tyrone but one of them will be Connacht champions and that has seeding advantages.
