Quote from: imtommygunn on March 19, 2024, 02:49:17 PMYeah but it wasn't driven into people by some army council boy landing round to the house of everyone with kids in them. It was driven into us by our parents. It wasn't some pre planned notion of this will get a united ireland - it was a notion that education will give you better chances in life. These boys seem to think that it was a joined up effort by the entire population. Bonkers.

Well said.

There's a clean version on you tube.

Couple of incidents in the first half that should have yielded cards - Odhran Doherty with a shoulder into the head/front of an Armagh man (round about 19 minutes), and then Forker dropping the knees onto a Donegal man on the ground.

Poor penalty by Gallen - perfect height to be saved. Keeper was a long way off the line right enough, but that's on the linesman to spot. I'd say he would have saved it even if he had stayed put. It was a clear penalty - don't feel there's much of a question about that.

Clear point waved wide for Donegal, but a draw was fair enough. The concern for both teams is how careless they were in possession and how easily they coughed up turnovers. It's all very well talking about shadow boxing, but let's be honest, that was two division 2 teams battling it out. That display wouldn't trouble the majority of the teams in Division 1.

Terrible stream. Hopefully they'll get it fixed at half time.

While the demographic trend is stark, remember that people get more conservative as they get older. Those 100% yes's today may be more WIIFM as they get older.

I presume the BBC iPlayer broadcast of Donegal & Fermanagh is geo-blocked?

Quote from: trailer on February 16, 2024, 02:19:00 PMReality is no one is going on public transport to get chemo or a heart bypass.
If you were sick enough you wouldn't complain how far you had to go for a top class service. Thinking that the best surgeons in the UK or Ireland want to live in Enniskillen (or Craigavon heaven forbid) to provide you a top class service then you are deluded.

How do you think that people from Donegal get to Galway for Chemo? Someone drives them, they use public transport or they take the cancer bus.
The 'if you were sick enough ...' line is pretty crass.

Probably needs its own thread at this stage.

Huge claim incoming! I'm joking though, must have been scary enough!

Very poor comment from a normally decent poster. Would suggest you rethink that one and maybe edit.

Revelation Space series by Alastair Reynolds. Good space opera stuff with a decent hard science content. Has been on my to-read list for a long time and (having just finished the 2nd book) am really enjoying it.

The Black Company series by Glen Cook. Actually my 3rd time reading the series. It's dark fantasy that isn't that dark but love Cook's writing and the characters he created.

Gridlinked by Neal Asher. James Bond meets hand sci-fi. Found it hard to get into on the kindle, but switched to Audible and found it much better (I find that with a few books - some work better as audiobooks, others as text).

Quote from: yellowcard on January 12, 2024, 11:10:21 AMIt just shows the power of Jimmy that so many people think that Donegal will automatically get promoted and possibly win Ulster just because he is back at the helm. People must have short memories or have they forgotten last season. He will have them fit and organised but I struggle to see how he can have the same impact this time around. His main advantage first time around was the revolutionary tactics deployed when every other county was playing traditional football but this is no longer the case. He seems to be relying on the age old tactic of ensuring his side is fitter than everyone else with rumours of a savage training regime and number of training sessions. However it is only mid January and I don't see that alone giving them the necessary competitive edge when the season begins in earnest. I think they will be competitive again but I would be reserving judgement on them for now rather than buying into the myth. His presence does seem to have got into a lot of peoples heads though which will give them a psychological edge if opponents buy into this.

I actually agree completely with this. I think Jim will have a big impact on the team, but people are forgetting the level that we have been at for the last few years.

being fit and organised counts for a lot in modern football though. I expect Donegal to get promoted alright. Ulster, who knows

It does, but it's the price of entry these days. If you are not super fit and organised, then you won't have a chance in D1, never mind in AIQF territory. I don't think it can be the differentiator today that we were able to make it in 2011/2012.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on January 10, 2024, 01:46:58 PMThe wing mirrors in the car are not folding closed when I lock the car.. I know first world problems but, is there a quick fix?

Sometimes the folding is linked to the button that selects which mirror you are adjusting from inside.

Biggest impact here to young Roarty. Imagine the excitement for him and his family as he lined out, then to find out that he cannot play at all in 2024. Serious questions to be asked of the Donegal setup for that reason alone.

"McGuinness' proposed ban pertains to all team activities – managing, directing, assisting, or communicating with the team in any way during the period of the time-based suspension. "
