Does anyone know when the second semi final will be played. I think it's Slaughneil v Keady. Ballycran beat Cushendall by 2 pts in the first semi final. Awful time of the year to be playing hurling, never mind an Ulster final.
Thank you Sludden. The forcast for Sunday is very bad. Gale force winds! Just what you need for a good game. :-\
It couldn't be any worse weather than the day Slaughtneil beat Carrickmore, gale force wind and driving rain.

It was the same for the Down county final and the other semi final. There really must be some way of playing important championship matches when the weather is better. Can somebody post the result?
There's little you can do at this time of year. Although you can fix the match for a dry day the pitch is still going to be heavy and cut up easy. I remember we played St Johns in 2004 in late november and drew with them. The replay was fixed about 4 times and had to be called off every time. We were even going to play on a tuesday during the mid term break for the schools. It was delayed that much that the replay wasnt untill the week before Easter and the final was the week after. By the time we actually played the game some of the lads had turned 19! and were playin the 2004 Minor Championship 3 months into 2005!
The pitch was still terrible and was cut up in about 10 mins. We wernt allowed to warm up on it and had to warm up in a field with sheep and cows in it accross the road. Ballinascreen pitch is just a poor field that floods easily. However if they play it up on the new back pitch they would be fine. I played there this year for the school and it was great, nice and wide too. But there is no viewing facilities and the stand is down on the other pitch so it remains to be seen how they will cope.
Match cancelled as predicted. On next sunday 7th January, probably same time. Agree with everything said above! Our boys are fed up, and a new season almost upon us. What can you do?
Is this in Ballinascreen next Sunday? I didn't notice it in the Irish News today.
Great competition and all that it is could be greatly improved if the minor championship fixtures within each county could be brought forward to earlier in the year and hence this would make a better spectacle not to mention turning the game into a lottery by playing it on a bog of a pitch. This is no way a slur on Ballinascreen who had the foresight to start this competition in the first place.
On a similar note a lot of the Ulster minor hurling league fixtures were set very late in the year as well and to be honest caused us problems with youngsters twiddling their thumbs for the best part of the summer, then going to the soccer when it started in August. Then with the UHL also on a saturday some the youngsters weren't prepared to give it up to go to hurl in november. We've enough problems keeping youngsters without shooting ourselves in the foot.

Eugene McHugh from Ballycastle, not a bad ref on his day. I wonder does he still wear that knee bandage which seems to be hanging on
Slaughtneil won by 5-6 points. They play Ballycran in the final next Sunday.
Is this game good to go on sunday?
I think Down and Derry are playing a friendly before it in Ballinscreen, so might be worht a visit if the pitch(es) hold up with all the rain we've had the last few days?
Match is cancelled, due to waterlogged pitch, so can't see the seniors playing a friendly there either.
Thanks for that.
Johnneycool any heads up on ballycran? Are they as good as everyone says? S'Neil have a great wee team but like Ballycran I'm sure their fed up, this competition runs on far too long!!!
Also a write up in the Gaelic Life about Ballycran vs Slaughtneil. With quotes from various selectors!!
As I don't have time to read newspapers and the like at work ;), who looks like favourites in your hurling opinion slim??
i wouldnt have a notion about who'd win between Derry and Down Seniors at hurling let alone a minor club game. Was at one hurling game all year.
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D Slim fair play :D :D :D

According to gaelic life or did you not read it because it was a hurling article!!!!!!!!!!!
it says above i read it.
it doesnt give any prediction.
they are 'the in form teams and are also in the ulster minor league final'
Jeez!
Good win for Ballycran in the final yesterday. A 2 pts victory in the end. After losing the 3 previous finals they'll be delighted to get the monkey off their back. Anybody at the game?
I was :(
It was a great game from start to finish with amazing skill and determination shown by both clubs. We were hard done by on a few occasions with come very strange decisions made. But we had the chance to win it, missing 3 chances at the end of the game. Congratulations to Ballycran on a very gracious victory and to their captain who made a great wee speech. I think Paudie Butler got a shock at the standard of hurling for an Ulster Minor Match. All in all a brilliant match spoiled by a bad referee. I don't know how Ballycran coped with getting beat 3 years running because our boys were devastated, so once again congratulations to them.

What's that all about?
Ballinascreen beat Loughgeil on Sunday past. Portaferry meet Middletown this sunday coming. No idea how it will go. I've seen Portaferry 4-5 times this year and they aren't great.
Havent seen Portaferry this year but have seen Middletown play in their last 3 games. They looked good in their county final, but it would have to be noted that the Cuhs team they were playing were prwetty bad. In their last game against Carrickmore they were very lucky to get the win as Carrickmore were def the better team in ordinary time, but missed alot of scores, with Middletown equalising with the last poc of the game, from a free that was never a free. In extra time Middletown scored 2 goals and held out. Would have to give a special mention to the Carrickmore keeper that day, some of the saves he made were unreal.
Their CHF young Maguire is a good player but can go missing in games and their No.8 is a good player but he does miss alot of frees. At this level games are usually fairly tight with winning margins pretty low. so will probably be an even enough game. Just hope the weather improves between now and then.

i trust our neighbours behaved themselves?
Nah no fighting JC the loughguile lads didnt travel ;) ;)
Good crowd at it and teams served up a pretty good game considering the conditions (gael force wind, with heavy showers thrown in for good measure). Portaferry always looked the more likely winners as they were able to get their scores much easier and I dont think Middletown scored from play but I could be wrong. Game was played in the right spirit, both teams went at it flat out and it was hard hitting but never dirty in any way. Some of the play was top class and the Ports will be tough to beat in the final. Would have to say though IMHO that the first SF was a much slicker affair until the unsavoury scenes at the end.
Should be a cracking final this Sunday @ 2.00PM.
