GAA Discussion / Re: Club or County - You decide

Both equally for me. I mean I've never tasted AI success with club or county but go to as much club and county games as I can. I cannot for the life of me understand fellas who resent players from (any club) club playing for their county. They should be proud of them. Knockmore members are no better/worse than the next set of club fans. Seen as I don't play Gaelic football I reckon that the next best thing is to support club and county as much as possible.

PJ up front .
unless there is major changes on the galway team most of their best player will be on the bench as in the game against leitrim. I worry for them

Fair play to ya man, it'll be nice to see how this thread works out with a few nice digs being thrown here and there.
I'm of the opinion that Mayo will win this simply due to their midfield superiority but as GBB has said it's heartening to see you write us off given your levels of soothsaying for the Galway-Mayo match last year!

Ah yea, but last year was last year after all. Galway will not be 10 points worse off than Mayo but I have a slight sneaking feeling that we can pull this one off!!!

It's not exciting at all, this year's championship. I for one am disappointed with most of the games.

Tulsk in roscommon the only thing good in in is the road to mayo ;)

And feck me they are poor friggin roads. An absolute disgrace I say.

Typical a Rossie tryin to upset the status quo! ;) :P

Thankfully I was born in 1987 and don't remember much about the really bad days for Connacht in the early 90s.

Given that Galway wanted to bury the ghosts of 1983 regarding the Dubs, we buried them for ye in 06! ;D Remember, Dublin hadn't lost to a Connacht team for 73 years previous to that I believe. You can call me stupid, but nobody explained to me why Galway are called herrin-chokers so could someone do so now please.

Reading through this thread, it seems that both of us (Mayo and Galway) were as bad as the other in the early part of the nineties. To me neither is capable of setting the world on fire this year either, although Galway have the potential to do better than Mayo if they win in my opinion.

I'm sure we'll get a good 12th weekend ;)

Damn true, Mayo and Galway play on the 13th. Last time it rained for a Mayo Galway clash was in 99 AFAIK.

Going back to the Ballina boundaries, we have 2 brothers from the same townland as me playing for Knockmore and the other for Ardnaree as somebody rightly said. I never played football due to a heart condition but am a Knockmore man ;D, as the little stream that flows and separates the 2 parishes runs a bit to the North of my house. I once stood in 3 parishes, Ardagh being the other one... let's not go there!!! The Ardnaree one always puzzled me, perhaps if I re-read the post, I will see where the Ardnaree border is.

My early feeling, even coming out of the Sligo match is that Galway will do enough to win this one. They seem to have the upper-hand on the games lately, and with Joyce out at no 11, he is a 'revelation' for them. He is spraying balls here there and everywhere and is accurately finding his forwards. Mayo on the otherhand started hand-passing the ball around the 30 metre line and lost possession now and again... If Sligo put up a good fight, maybe I would be in the 'we're going to beat Galway brigade' but any time I am in that mindset we lose.

GAA Discussion / Re: Attendances this year

Only 12000 and something in Castlebar today. No atmosphere either. Felt like a league match and the way Sligo played made it seem that way too...

Terrible game, Mayo did enough but Sligo were useless. Hard to see Mayo getting it that handy against Galway as Galway seem to rise the physicality against us. Anyway we're in Connacht final now. I could go on and annoy the hell out of Sligonian but it wouldn't be worth my while as I realise our forwards need to improve immensely for the next day.

General discussion / Re: Teachers get it handy!

The heading of this thread is why I decided to become a teacher (hopefully I will get a job...) Anyway, there are a fair few teachers from the North on here, and I was just wondering are there the equivalents of WSE's in schools in Northern Ireland? If so, what kind of assessment is required?
