Yer man Noel Clarke is in the process of being buried without trace.

Seen this. If he is guilty then screw him but surely he can't be sacked on the basis of a newspaper report

No such thing as innocent until proven guilty any more it would seem.

I see Marylin Monroe is getting cancelled now too. Ffs.

Giggs not being given a place in the hall of fame due to an allegation.  Ronaldo better watch out, be a lot of awards to be taken off him if the same treatment is applied to him.

Is there not a pending court case? If so it's the right thing.

He should be in there but the timing is wrong, so would would only trigger a lots of shit.

If he's guilty of this then he should be properly tarnished, he is or was a professional footballer and a national coach ffs! At what point in life do you not start to catch yourself on?

If Cummins keeps going then Boris could be cancelled anytime soon.

Giggs is a tube and a horrible **** of a person. Shouldn't matter one iota though in terms of hall of fame. Still one of the very best ever.

George Best and Maradonna were no angels either but doesn't take away from their genius and standing in the game.

He's been charged with the assault of two women.

Don't think anyone is disputing Giggs' onfield ability and accomplishments.

However, why would the hall of fame panel invite the controversy, on the initial roll out of the institution, of installing him right in the middle of these allegations/court case? Its absolutely sensible that they wait.

Best and Maradonna weren't angels, for sure, but their reputations on the field suffered also, despite living in a far more indulgent and discrete times. Best left the top level game far too early, and his worldwide renown is not what it should be. Maradonna was banned for drugs and booted unceremoniously out of a World Cup. He is arguably the greatest player ever, but he is seen as a highly flawed genius who could have been even greater. But then maybe he wouldn't have been so loved without the flaws and the rock star behaviour.

Would Pele be more loved these days had he publicly indulged his wilder side and, understandably, not kept his head down with the military regime and so on, instead of just letting his genius do the talking on the pitch?

Is this due to his skill or longevity in the game? As Van Basten was 28 and Best stopped playing for Utd when he was 27

Don't think anyone whose seen him doubts Best's skill, which was almost unparalleled.

Van Basten is an interesting comparison. However, he had to retire due to injury after spending a couple of years trying in vain to get back. And he also had to step out at the peak of his powers. Best, on the other hand, embraced the celebrity night life, went missing from training and matches, and played a diminishing role for United as the team declined post-Busby before he finally opted out. Best is a case of pissing it all away, while Van Basten lost those years through no fault of his own.

To me, Best should be up there in the conversations about greatest player ever, but he never really is.

Milltown Row2

No one is denying lost it, he literally pissed it all away and probably predisposed with addiction, as his mum was also suffering with the same addiction, but his talent at the time is and was as good as those around him, league titles and European Cup is evidence of that, his performances in the big games was there to se, no bit part roles, Law, and Charlton for me were better professionals and Charlton over all probably shaded it, but the footage and maybe nostalgia of him back in the day with the ball at his feet left lasting memories.

Not having an international career of sorts didn't help the worldwide view of him, whereas the Pele's of that time soaked up a lot of fame. (and rightly so)

Matt Busby's retirement and the hounding of the press and pressure of the times played a huge role in his demise, had he moved to a different county he could have had that longevity that the top players deserve. But can you imagine the hype you had to deal with at aged 23/24 years old?
