A man was shot on the Shankill Road in Belfast today, police said.

The shooting in the staunchly loyalist area of the city was reported to officers shortly after 1pm.

Police said the extent of the man's injuries were not known.

Officers were at the scene.

Eamon Mallie is saying he was hit with a "burst of gunfire". Could be reading too much into it but that sounds like an automatic weapon, which up here would point to paramilitaries.

News stated that it was a burst of gunfire as well.
Seemingly shot in the head a number of times while crossing the street at Snugville st.

A man has been shot dead on the Shankill Road in Belfast today.

The victim, believed to be in his mid 40s, was shot in the staunchly loyalist area shortly before 1pm.

The busy road was packed with lunchtime shoppers when the attack took place.

Eyewitnesses said masked gunmen shot him in the head.

Police have not yet disclosed a motive for today's shooting.

Man is injured in city shooting



A man has been injured in a shooting on the Shankill Road in Belfast, police have said.

The incident was reported to police shortly after 1300 BST on Friday.

Police are at the scene and have cordoned off the area. The extent of the man's injuries is not known.

The man has been taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital. Police are advising motorists to avoid the mid section of the Shankill Road.
