Was asked this in a Table Quiz recently - Tough Question and answer is unbelievable.
What have England never done in the final stages of the World Cup and European championships since they played Hungary in 1962??
What's final stages Maroon Heaven? The World Cup and European finals themselves, or the knockout stages i.e. 1/4 finals etc?
The reason I ask is because I think it might be 'keep a clean sheet', but I think they had a few 0-0s in various groups along the way.

Ah they did that alright. That was one of my reasons for asking about what constitutes 'final stages'. England have won a few games in group stages, and early knockout rounds in normal time.

Nicky Shorey at Reading has also done it I think, and I think Bobby Zamora has scored in all 4 divisions. There's probably a few others too, I don't think this achievement is as exclusive as it seems.

Wikipediaed him and it seems he defected from Romania in 1988 (before Red Star's 1991 success) to Yugoslavia and he comes from a Serbian family so I think it would be fair to say that, technically or otherwise, he was Yugoslavian when Red Star won the European Cup.

ok, in a last ditch effort to make ammends, here's another question (and i just hope i have the correct info this time)
Name an Englishman, an Irishman, a Scotsman and a Welshman that have each played for three clubs that have won either the Champions league or the European Cup. The players haven't won three medals themselves - they have simply played for three clubs that have won it in their history. And there are actually 2 englishmen that I can think off.
Did Mark Hughes play for Barcelona, Bayern and United? If so he's the Welsh lad.
Welsh - Mark Hughes (United, Barcelona and Bayern Munich)
English - Paul Ince (United, Liverpool and Inter)
sparky is correct for the welsh man.
Roy Keane (Celtic/Forest/United)
Who's the Scot so. Did Alan McInally play for Villa and Munich? Did he also play for Celtic or Forest?
Bingo. Alan McInally it is.
well done AZ. I hadnt keane in the list as I was asked that question before he joined celtic. So there's another irishman that I know off.
McInally it is. played for celtic, villa & munich.
do you want the other englishman & irishman or will I give yiz a few moments ;)
Alan McInally (Celtic/Villa/Bayern)
tony cascarino
correct ludermore. cascarino - villa, celtic, marseille.
So one more englishman along with ince.
Dean Saunders (Liverpool/Derby/Benfica/Forest)???

Okay, here's one. Some easy, a couple of middling ones and a hard one.

You're right, he did. I hadn't him as one of the seven. Sean St Ledger didn't though - just called into the squad but not capped yet.
Seven so far then are Steve Staunton, Frank Stapleton, Kevin Sheedy, John Sheridan, Bernie Slavin, Anthony Stokes, Richie Sadlier.
One left, and its a tricky one, very tricky. But he's fairly well known . . .

Are you sure that this shouldn't include the UEFA Cup? There are only 4/5 max when the European Cup is only considered but with the UEFA Cup you also get:
Glasgow - Celtic + Rangers
Barcelona - Barca + Espanyol
Rome - Roma + Lazio
Turin - Torino + Juve
which would bring it up to around 8. Although if you include the Cup Winners Cup too you could add:
Manchester - United + City
Liverpool - Everton + Liverpool
Lisbon - Sporting + Benfica
Munich - Bayern + 1860
Moscow - CSKA + Dynamo
Budapest - Ferencvaros + MTK
Vienna - Rapid + Austria
Antwerp - Royal + KV Mechelen

Stade de Reims are from Reims. It's another city in France.
I'm pretty sure the ones I've mentioned are the only ones that are correct. I reckon the original question included the UEFA cup because there are 8 cities if it is taken into account.
Here's a few:
1: Which is the highest ranked league (by current UEFA coefficients) never to have produced:
a) A European Cup Winner?
b) Any European club competition (EC, Uefa Cup, Cup Winner's Cup) Winner?
c) A finalist in any European club competition?
d) A team that have reached the CL group stages?
NB. Intertoto cup does not count.
2: Name the 3 clubs that have won all three of the major European club competitions (EC, Uefa Cup, Cup Winner's Cup)?
3: Which team recorded the fewest victories on their way to winning the CL? (Surprising one)
4: Who were the first team to win the EC/CL despite not having won either their national league or the European Cup the previous season?
5: Which is the only European city to have been represented by 3 clubs in the CL in one season?

Jaysus you put forward a question and the nit-pickers are out.
To qualify for a premiership medal you need to play 10 games or more in the league, Manninger didn't despite his fantastic contribution and neither has Kuzcask, that is the simple fact. No tricks, not trying to fit the answers, so need to cry lads, it's only mindless trivia...
The final answer is Quinton Fortune

Never heard that one before..How'd he do that?
From wikipedia:
In September 2000 Cottee was given a free transfer by Leicester so that he could take up a player-coaching role at Norwich City[1], however this did not last long as Cottee struggled to meet the demands placed on him. After being released by Norwich on October 31 of that year he took over as player-manager of Barnet, a team closer to his home in London. After winning his first game with the club 7–0, Barnet hit a run of poor form which left them facing relegation from the Football League. Cottee resigned on March 16, 2001[2], however his replacement, John Still, was unable to rescue the team from relegation. A week after resigning from Barnet, Cottee signed for Millwall on transfer deadline day. During this remarkable season, which was his last as a player, Cottee played for a different team in each of the top four divisions of English football in the same season[3], a rare achievement last performed by goalkeeper Eric Nixon in the late 1980s.

As the immortal Roy Walker would say: "It's Good, but it's not Right". Dennis Compton was an outstanding cricketer for Middlesex and England and almost as good a footballer (for Arsenal). His brother Leslie was also pretty useful in both sports (same teams), though not so accomplished. Both played for Arsenal in the 1950 Cup Final, but the late Joe Mercer was Captain that day:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denis_Compton
Dennis Compton was one of the greats of English cricket but I must confess, I hadn't realised he was quite so good a footballer. For as well as the 1950 FA Cup winners medal, he also won the League with Arsenal two years earlier. Moreover, his football career was disrupted by both the War and injury, though he was good enough to play football for England in wartime internationals (not recognised as official caps).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leslie_Compton
His brother Leslie was also no slouch at either game, but was always overshadowed somewhat by "The Brylcreem Boy". He never quite played cricket for England (he represented the MCC, however), but he was probably the better footballer of the two, gaining two (regular) caps for England at football, including making his debut at 38 years old (a post-war record)!
Anyhow, when I said that the answer would be a surprise (above), this is actually for two reasons, one of which being that it is
since the Comptons. (I'll not reveal the other surprising aspect just yet ;))

Shearer from Blackburn to Newcastle? There may have been a transfer of over £10 million before his, but I think I'm right in saying that his £15.3m fee was a world record at the time, domestic or international.
Shearer went for 15million, a world record, in 1996. In 1993 Keane went for a British record of 3.75 afaik. Can't remember too many more big money signings in between

Denis Law
Denis Law was only the first £100k+ transfer (£116k, actually) because when Spurs earlier brought Jimmy Greaves back from Milan, manager Bill Nicholson didn't want Greaves lumbered with the first six figure transfer fee tag. So his actual fee was £99,999.00!
Btw, the notably corrupt* Louis Edwards was the United Chairman who signed Law. This was not so long after he had bought outright control of the club. Apparently he had gained the extra shares he needed by personally visiting all the small female shareholders at evenings and weekends at their homes and offering them cash on the spot. Edwards had figured out that when the shares had been issued originally (40 years previously?), the buyers will virtually all have been men. So that any female shareholder now on the Register would likely be a widow who had inherited in the event of her husband's death and so may not appreciate the shares' value. And so it proved, so that Edwards actually bought the club outright for less than the cost of the Law transfer.
* - I can say it now he's dead.

What rare footballing feat occured during an English football league match in November 1987?
two keepers sent off?
Was going to guess Rush scoring but Liverpool losing, but think he was at Juventus then.

Dodgey penalty at Old Trafford or Anfield against a team in Red?
forgot to give the answer :D
3 players each scored a hat-trick for a team - Manchester City beat Huddersfield Town 10-1 (David White, Paul Stewart and Tony Adcock all notched hat-tricks)
There are seven teams in this years Premiership, excluding United and Liverpool, that have 2 (or more) players with Champions League medals.
I want the seven clubs and the names of the 2 players from each club.
Chelsea - Carvalho, Terry, Ferreira
Pompey - Djimi Traore, Kanu
Blackburn - Mccarthy, Santa Cruz
Newcastle - Geremi, Butt
Everton - Valente, Neville
WAYEY!
oops, 2 more:
Sunderland - Yorke, Cisse
The last one is a killer!
Yeah Danny Higginbotham has one, but don't think anyone else has.
Salif Daio was at Liverpool at the time but don't think he received a medal. Can anyone confirm?
Is this the answers so far Gab?
man city - didi hamann and .......................???
West Brom-Scott Carson and Jonathan Greening
Wahooo
Chelsea also have Deco & Anelka
The 7 has been completed.118 got there before me with the 1st 6. The last one was tricky

we were asked a superb question in the pub last night by the publican who seems to have an never ending set of these posers
17 players have scored 100 or more goals in the Premiership - name them
In no order id guess
Alan Shearer
Andrew Cole
Teddy Sheringham
Michael Owen
Ian Wright
Dwight Yorke
Robbie Keane
Robbie Fowler
Les Ferdinand
Jimmy Floyd Hasslebank
Frank Lampard
Ole Solksjaer
Matthe Le Tisser
Dion Dublin
Emile Heskey
Nicolas Anelka
Cant think of anyone else and some of those might not be right
Thierry might be a bit upset you left him out.
I would have added Dennis and Ruud but they fell short.
Great site that. Amazed to see Robbie Keane no. 10 in scorers while we have two predictable Irishmen in the top 10 of sendings off.
Incredibly the 22 year old (3 weeks ago) Fabregas is already 6th in assists with 50 while Damien Duff for example is on a lowly 23.
Roy Keane only committed 119 fouls (although most were memorable) while Kevin Davies committed an amazing 624, and he is still going. If it takes 2 seconds to blow for a foul the referees have spent over 20 minutes blowing Kevin Davies, if you follow.

Alan Kennedy scored in the '81 final. His "winner" in '84 was in the penalty shoot-out, so it hardly counts, does it?
Neal scored from the spot during the game in '77 and also scored from open play in '84, so he is definitely one of the people in question.
Eusebio would be a non-British example...

Name the players who have played for either Barca or Real Madrid and also played for two Premiership (ie since 92/93) clubs. We came up with eight last night but there might be more.
Gudjohnsen
Michael Owen
Steve McManaman
Javier Mascherano

Gudjohnsen has more than two premiership clubs mind.
