Nice one Rafa. It's not much money in the greater scheme of things for him, but it's the gesture that's important here. It shows that he knows that no matter what we all think, that's the most important part of Liverpool FC.

As for other players, and testimonials, you read of a lot of players doing things like that now. I know Joe Cole has personally done a lot of things that were never reported on. He paid for an operation for a Chelsea old boy (Roy Bentley if I recall), bought a medal (Bobby Tambling I think) at auction and handed it straight back to him. Top lad is that Joe Cole.

Aye I would say a lot of them give generously but don't feel the need to publicise it in an attempt to cultivate a Mother Teresa image.

Was a thing about all the charity work Criag Bellamy does in Africa. Could almost feel how much it meant to him from the interview. I nearly spilled my tea in shock.

Not on that youtube list but either of two Johnny Dooley frees, one against Limerick in the 94 final and the other to steal a leinster championship from Wexford at the death. Cant remember the year.
It was 1998 against Wexford. In a crowded goalmouth Johnny pulled on a ball that broke from a long range Brian Whelahan free.
The famous summer of '98 would have been much different had he not scored.

Must have been a semi final?

Did KK not hockey them in the final?

Spain to win and Torres top scorer is 25-1. Has to be a good bet IF he can stay fit.

Not so much. Good article on the BBC site about how Torres is as much a worker for Spain as a goalscorer. Villa is definitely their top scorer.

Drew Brazil in the sweep :D :D

I got Nigeria and Portugal in College. One lad (who somehow wasn't the organiser) got both Brazil and Spain?

But only your Captain that finishes at the end of the stage counts (as I understand it)

Sorry, didn't read further!

"If you remove a player who has scored points for your team, these points will be lost. The player cannot be brought back into your team until the next round"

Come on Forlan, only player I have playing today!

Being able to change your captain could see mountains of points in the group stages (Robinho vs. N. Korea? Yes please!)

Cameroon beat the argies 1-0 in 1990, back in the days when the holders used to play in the first game, this was ditched in 2006 and this year. It's now the hosts who open the tournament. (Germany v Costa Rica in 2006)

Very good AFS  :D

He should retire now, 100% record from the spot. And better than Diana Ross.

Cameroon weren't taking any shit that day.

Without even looking, that has to be the clip of the three lads trying to mince Caniggia!

There was a "50 Greatest World Cup Shocks" on BBC 3 last week with Richard Bacon and Peter Crouch (pretty funny actually) that had it in it. Brutal lads altogether.

Care to elaborate.

Bigotry. Sectarianism. Small-mindedness. Xenophobia. Homophobia.

I wouldn't like to be considered with that sort of thing.

Gallsman those words could be used to describe any race/nation. They describe some of the worst traits in mankind and I also wouldn't like to be associated with any of them.
But and I would guess that the majority of posters on this board when they are in the "real world" would be different from their internet personas. Certainly there are some gobshites on this board, but within every large population you will get some people with the attitudes listed above, what we cannot do is let a few bad apples taint the entire barrel.

That's why restricted my comment my initial comment to the "Irishness" that some people on this board display through those traits.

Amazingly Nani's injury leaves only 5 Man Utd players appearing at the World Cup: Rooney, Carrick, Vidic, Evra, Park.  Can't think of any more ???  That's fewer than Portsmouth and the same number as Wigan.

Hernandez, although techincally not yet.

Tosic, although probably not for much longer.

Jonny Ev...

Oh wait.  :)

This thread stinks of insecurity
Couldn't agree more. It's like the loyalists and their need to fly flags and paint kerbstones.

Can't see the problem with this thread or the reasons for starting it, FAM is proud to be Irish, whats wrong with that? I certainly don't read into it that he's insecure!!
Seems to me that there's some on this board who are almost ashamed to be Irish.

I'd be ashamed to be considered what some people on the board identify as "Irish".

Nani out of World Cup with shoulder injury.

Excellent news for my Fantasy Football - if possible, they'll give the ball even more to the metrosexual one.
