Quote from: quit yo jibbajabba on Today at 08:26:45 AMGallsman you're telling me you're looking forward to Gilbert Wilson as much as if it was OSullivan Trump instead?

What I'm saying is that the actual content being put out on TV hasn't actually changed a jot, so if you enjoy watching the actual snooker itself, rather than following or being a fan of the individuals, nothing has changed. If you want to watch Ronnie O'Sullivan, rather than snooker, go follow him on Instagram or something. I'm sure he'll be flogging you the delights of holidaying in Riyadh soon enough

Actually, I'll correct that, the only thing that has changed is that the standard is significantly higher across a much wider pool of talent, given the number of 147s these days. Same as the darts where to be at the absolute top end of it you need to be averaging well over 100 and making 9 darters a few times a year. Unheard of even 10-15 years ago.

Quote from: gallsman on May 01, 2024, 11:34:51 PMThis f**king nonsense again about "characters". What you see on the screen in terms of people playing snooker hasn't changed a bit, whether it's Higgins or White or Jak Jones. It's just a lad at a table potting balls. Some do it faster than others. Some are incredibly slow. Same as it ever was.

Rubbish. Some still players show a bit of personality that sets them apart from the rest. O'Sullivan one example. He mightnt be very likable but he still shows his personality with his regular interactions with opponents, refs and the crowd. Ditto Mark Williams except he is more easy to like than Ronnie. He sometimes takes on trick shots unnecessarily and jokes regularly with the crowd and refs. During the World Championship in 2018 he made a vow during the competition that if he won, he'd do his first news conference naked. He won the title and lived up to his word.

Players can have personalities, and while some are happy to show it, just not enough of them are.

Did that in the middle of a frame live on TV, did he? No he potted balls like the rest of them, same as the four lads in the semis will

A combination of injury/inactivity that has led to her getting leapfrogged and the fact that Harrington is in place at 60kgs.

LeBron and the Lakers handled pretty easily by the Nuggets 4-1. Can't see even the Celtics challenging them over 7 games unless they get a significant injury.

LeBron still very much got it though. Was terrific last night.

Have always found Buff to be an eejit of the highest order. I'm not his target market but felt as if he'd disappeared for a while. His take on the foul restart was the first time I'd come across him in a couple of years.

Feels like he was going out of the way to be contrary.

"the six lads in contention with them had an average world ranking of 277."

I know these are facts but we are good at negative spinning

They're statements, not spin. I, for one, was delighted for the two lads. Lowry, in particular, has been struggling with his putting this year and it's a couple of years since his last win. McIlroy has been going on recently but has to deal with the fact he's being overshadowed by Scheffler.

My comment was a follow on from stating that I didn't believe there was a hope in hell of Trainer making that putt, as it was by far and away the most important and pressurised putt of his career, as evidenced by his lowly ranking. He missed it badly too. So shove your begrudgery comment up your hole.

Who is begrudging them anything?

Not a hope Trainer was ever making that.

When they were going down the 17th the six lads in contention with them had an average world ranking of 277.

That Sean O'Donoughue foul gets crazier and crazier every time I see it. Absolute madness to do that when already on a yellow. Ball was clear and safe too.

Quote from: square_ball on April 27, 2024, 09:49:08 PMThomas Niblock has called it a phenomenal performance from Down on Twitter.

Lol. Complete nonsense. Armagh were brutal but got away with it because they're levels above the Down team they played. Not much more do it.

Quote from: gallsman on April 27, 2024, 06:59:38 PMTo think the Kilcoo boys thought they were too good for the Down team. Johnston just fell over at the end there.

Armagh were awful but Down are a dreadful outfit. Would have been a travesty to see them in the AI series.
Some speak from an Antrim man.

Good one.

It wasn't a matter of any sort of Down tactical masterclass shutting out Armagh and nearly pulling it off. Armagh were f**king brutal, O'Neill aside who was half decent. They should still have won the game pulling up. Has nothing to do with them "not being let play" or anything of the sort.

Down need a bit of S&C from the looks of things.

Down goals were a comedy of errors defensively. There was some running and handpassing in the build up, nothing more.

Genuinely shocked at how much credit people are trying to give down. They turned up to play as little football as possible, and when they did, were largely terrible at it.

Down played out of their skins.

What. Down were dreadful.
