Quote from: LeoMc on Today at 09:32:00 AMI knew a lot of the story but what got me was the State going after the Coroner, a respected senior judge, for revealing to the families the number of state agents involved.
Quote from: NAG1 on Today at 09:33:19 AMPowerful programme but don't think anything that wasn't already in the public domain came out of it. Still very important for the family to keep this in the headlines and keep the pressure on.

Wasn't only the cameras on the police station in Toome that weren't working that night, some of the 'locals' in Bellaghy also had mysterious malfunctions.

Horrible times.

There may not have been anything new in it to anyone who knew anything about this. But, I bet many people in the South from both GAA and non-GAA backgrounds probably didn't know much about this story, if anything. In particular the level of a dirty war that was being engaged by the Brits against Northern Catholics and the steps they went to to cover this up. Right the way to the top of the British government. But sure then it was all in our heads!

The utmost respect for the Brown family for what they had to endure at that time and in the intervening years since.

Quote from: Tones on Today at 09:46:23 AMA friend of mind works dealing with benefit claims, she does England mostly, she says it's amazing how rude these folk are, how clued in they are, how persistent they are, how confrontational they are, she says when she clearly identifies fraud and passes it to her line manager more than not it is ignored - no wonder the country if fucked!

I've said before, these people work dam hard at not working, the levels of understanding the benefit system is way above the actual people working in it

I remember being at a garage on the Shankill years ago, guy was filling up his rather new BMW, he was chatting away to a fella in the shop telling him he was heading to the dole who were interviewing him for the DLA renewal.

He was basically covered in shit, clothes were hanging on him and he smelt of booze, told him that it works every time and they never keep more than 5 minutes due to the smell.

This isn't taking away from multi national companies not paying full tax btw  ;)

The problem is not too many games on the same day though. Why do you need to spread out completely different counties playing?

Quote from: lenny on Today at 07:10:43 AMWe need a separate hurling and football show, both 2 hours long especially at this stage of the season where there are so many games each weekend. The hurling show could be on Sunday night with football on Monday or vice versa. That would mean we could see proper highlights and allow for analysis which isn't rushed. That said we need better pundits than cavanagh and staunton who are both dismal.
The problem is that everything is squeezed into less space. There is nothing and there is too much

Just this weekend we had Cork v Kerry, derry vs Donegal, Tyrone v Cavan,  Cork vs Waterford, Clare vs Limerick , Dublin v Wexford as bangers plus a few others

With a longer season these could be spread out

Mayo are probably stronger based on the form.

In fairness it's nothing new and not down to the split season. There were times when the likes of Wicklow would get 90 seconds of a report with errors.

There needs to be an online show where the panel chat on subjects/ issues. Throw it up on YouTube and leave the Sunday Game to the actual games.

The likes of Dessie seems to be gone, but his female version Cora needs the boot too! Their GAA Podcast is good with Jacqui and they have good contributors too. That could be jazzed up a bit to make it a full production even.

But like Paul Flynn, Gooch and Cavanagh are just not good enough. As I said GAAGo when it gives the full treatment to the game is better now.

Quote from: NAG1 on April 22, 2024, 03:13:22 PMClare's level dropped slightly but not by much and Limerick powered through that quarter. Clare did have a couple of bad wides in this period which might just have kept them in the game.

Keeper has been an issue for them for a few years now, but he is obviously the best they have. Great game and the only major problem for those outside of Limerick is that this will bring them on again. Ominous for the others.

The best time to lose to Limerick is now.

It is, but for now Clare are facing into going down to Franks pairc to meet a Cork team who are also bouncing off the back of a defeat to the supposed whipping boys in Munster.
Cork will go for goals as that's now perceived to be Clare's achilles heel, but they'll need to get the average age of that forward line down considerably if they are to cause Clare issues in that regard.
I also think Clare will look to put Peter Duggan close to the Cork square and lob the ball from distance into him to create goal chances of their own.

Corks need is greater but whoever loses this will do well to get the third berth in Munster.

We'll also find out what state Tipp are in this weekend and it would need to be a very large improvement from their league campaign.

Clare be better to put Shanagher ahead of Duggan at FF. Ball never sticks to Duggan.

Quote from: marty34 on Today at 07:43:33 AMBig issue now is that there's so many games, and high level ones at that, on every week-end.

Used to be 2 games on a Sunday to focus on.  Now it usually 4 or 5 on a Saturday and the same on a Sunday.

The imbalance of a split season I suppose.

Majority of people will have watched the main live games and heard the analysis during those programmes.

Is there a need then for most of the Sunday Game programme to be taken up by those 'live' games.

There is a definitive need for a less formal show which can capture the rest of the games in more detail. What would be wrong with a mid week show, with a chance to explore the big stories of the week, look back and look ahead to games coming up the following weekend?

Same conversation about the coverage every year i don't think things are going to change.

Was there a few Saturday night highlight shows last year?

There were at least a few saturday shows.

Yeah nothing changes. There are analysts who just don't cut it and they just keep them at it. They don't care as long as they think their face fits.

For all the blather about "Michelle and Emma" and a bright future for NI, it's 2024 and the British are still trying to suppress the truth.  25 people involved in this murder, most of whom were loyalist touts, RUC and UDR members.

Excellent programme that showed the devastation visited on families during the Troubles.
