could semis not have been a double header or would it be to impractical.

The average attendance at Hurling semis must be around 55k so not a chance of that working and double headers are a disaster. There will be more Offaly supporters in Kilkenny today than Kilkenny supporters in Croker yesterday. The novelty element certainly accounts for that in these tough times financialy for supporters.

Tony pointed a sideline similar to Sunday during the 2018 semi final v Galway. Almost the same angle and same side. He knew it was in his locker to point it. Ridiculous to suggest he is not a team player. There has been 3 or 4 example in the last few games where he elected to pass where he should have taken on the score himself.

Do you think there's an apathy towards hurling in the glens of Antrim, the ards  peninsula, Keady,Burt, slaughtneil, dungiven, Middleton, Dungannon etc etc etc ...

Nonsense thread. Though the ground being better in the better counties is one of the better reasons I have heard ;D

Football clubs should be promoting hurling.

Adds so much to a player's skills set, it's a huge bonus.  Unfortunately 'football people', for some reason, see it as a threat.

It is a threat and in some counties it is wrecking football. I would say if your county has <150k population you need to prioritise one of the two. The problem I see is the hurling nazis who think that you are a lesser human if you do not worship Hurling and acknowledge a win in the Lory Meagher as some sort of enormous achievement.

Clare as an example has a population of approx 100k with respect shown to both codes albeit Hurling is stronger. I accept that some smaller counties find it difficult enough to compete at even one code and that asking them to promote another can be a big ask. But there are 18 counties in Ireland larger in population than Clare. Excuses!

Why does a conversation about the lack of Hurling in the whole Provence of Ulster always develop into the lack of football in one county, Kilkenny. Looks like its used as an excuse to continue doing nothing about it.
I asked a genuine question aside from the Ulster question which had already been discussed at length. I can't elaborate much further from what Fear has already said about my own county. The counties of Ulster all compete in the National League and in their various levels of championship in hurling. Kilkenny don't do that in football, which I personally find a bit sad. I asked in hope they had some structures/plans in place to get back to that level.

You're clutching at straws with the bit in bold.

Yes its sad that KK dont compete. But what has it to do with Ulster Hurling?

The game has been watered down with back-doors, super-8's, Tailteann Cups and what nots. There is no do or die anymore. Teams getting second chances in Competitions they don't care about or that they know they have no hope in.

The game has evolved into a version of Rugby League and Basketball.

I agree. Slowly losing faith in Gaelic football as a spectator sport. It's great for the cabal of coaches but it's getting really hard to watch a 70 minute match now. Everything is so rehearsed and the players are all clones of each other following a strict rigid possession based game plan. Haven't seen a decent game all championship.

I don't watch anymore. Maybe switch on to see the last 10 minutes. Anyway, Football Games are not televised anymore. It's all Hurling. RTE know what has viewership. My kids don't watch. They play and enjoy it.

Coaches, tacticians, Managers, trainers have learned how to cynically nullify the opposition. This includes long periods of hold ball and ball recycling.
There's been more hurling in to date because of the championship structure, that'll balance out now.
Both games need rule tweaks in any case as tactics in both games have lessened the spectator appeal. Top level hurling is now a game largely devoid of goals, why bother trying to work a 3 pointer when a 110yd flick of the wrist gets 1/3 of the reward.

There was 33 goals in the Munster Hurling championship in 11 games.
There was 16 goals in the Ulster Football championship in 8 games
I will leave the maths to you!

Poor game. When will players learn that spare hand pulling and dragging for all to see results in a free. Galway gave Tj every chance to win the game for KK.

One sided games dont make the game awfull. There are one sided games in every sport which are more to do with the structure of the competition than the game itself. But games like todays Ulster final question flaws in the game itself. The number of hand passes is the elephant in the room for me.

Time to resurrect this topic after the ulster final fiasco.

1) shot clock
2) no backpass over half way line
3) at least 5 players on the offensive half at all times
4) managers that consider entertainment and not just results.

Full credit to Derry but for a neutral that was brutal to watch its time for change

Are you honestly saying ydays 2 pathetic finals were better then today??????

There you go, theres the problem. Some people defend it as entertaining. There is no hope.

If tipp beat Cork by a big score and Clare do the same to Waterford then Tipp go through!!!!

Typical Waterford performance and like their supporters they gave up before the end of the game.

A directive needs to be made, and a clear space between ball and hand for the pass, the problem is a ref needs to clearly see it as a throw before blowing the whistle. The game at county level certainly is faster and it's harder to get it right.

So what fixes it? Ban it?

Im with Conor O Donovan on this and also think that the current crackdown is a waste of time. Come championship the throws will be rampant again and we have to wait for the league again next year for the refs to attempt another correction. The simple solution or at least a trial is as per Conors proposal, handpass only off off the hurl or the switched hands but no same pass from the hand that holds the ball.

The Hurley throwing is something else altogether but if any Ref tried to enforce the rules he'd be hung drawn and quartered by the media and "hurling men".

Not true. Some of us want handpassing addressed ASAP.

Not a patch on hurling in that regard. The ball thrown all round the place now.

With due respect to handpassing and I dont have much, the difference between a throw and a legitimate pass in Hurling is very little in terms of skill.
And likewise for football. We are deluding ourselves in both codes with the poor entertainment value from handpaasing a ball.

There should have been at least 5 goals in the match but due to cynical fouling in front of goal there was only one and the the number 2 did hid best to prevent that one too. Its time to bring in the sinbin and penalty for these fouls in the club game as we have at IC.
