Quote from: Puckoon on May 14, 2026, 02:43:13 PMQuiet on here with a major starting.

Really would like to have backed Rose, but this switch to MacLaren irons has not been great for him. He loves to t**ker at the wrong time.

Got 6th in the draft, hoping to get one of Fleetwood or Fitzpatrick.

Think Cam Young might have a great shot this week however.

Would be great to see Rory win them all, but I doubt it will happen.

Ooof
Shit.

Mornings after this would have been perfect for it!

By time I got up she was Countdown time 😆

Wait did we live together on University street? Do you support Everton and could be found in your rockin chair with a bowl of tomato soup and half a loaf of Ormo white for your breakfast and a can of Tennents?

Lolol no. But I like the sound of this guy we could've been friends

Fifteen to One era also now we're at it
William G. Stewart was the boss. 15-1 was the best quiz going!

Quote from: NAG1 on May 12, 2026, 08:35:44 AMI think we've effectively killed the hurling leagues, teams are showing up and the games I've seen various match-ups have barely been above pre-season friendly level. There is no bite in them at all and while they may be decent for getting squad players games, I see very little else about them that is worthwhile.

I know with the split season this is kind of inevitable but I think its not good longer term for the club game.

Until you put some reason/benefit into it then it will have no intensity to it

Yeah totally agree, it would be interesting to see some new novel ideas of how to incentivise performance across the league. Even without the county players, there is bound to be some way to get the clubs interested in being competitive.

What about an Ulster league? Would tht work? Obviously distance mid-week may be a problem but it'd be interesting and a bit more competitive I think.

Different levels of standard but worth a shot?
There was the Tain Ulster Club League 15 years ago or so.

Wasn't a frequent attender. It was for the unsophisticated palates from Tyrone, Armagh and Derry. I was more of a Dukes man myself.

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on May 12, 2026, 01:16:42 PMAh the aul Bot, its had its day unfortunately, location location location... Mid 80's it was outta Belfast City center which had a ring of steel around it and closed around 7pm at night, so the options for students were limited..

Wed nights when I was 16 through to early 20's and Sundays for the first of the Super Sundays during the hey days of the PL, wife (girlfriend at the time) was pouring me into the car, god knows why she stuck around!
A question she has asked herself many times!

The old Bot with the bar in the middle upstairs and the tiny dancefloor was a great spot for laps back in the day. I think it was in the process of being replaced when I was in first year, 1994-1995. with the Bot, the Eg, QUBSU, the old Fly and The Elms just down the road, that part of town was heaving mid- to late-90s.

Some woman was saying in one of the articles that 3 A* A-Levels provided insufficient points for a lot of the degree courses in the South so it's not apples with apples. Partitionism is thriving!

My God, they are planning to flatten the Bot.

Do young ones not go there anymore?

No. I was in on a friday night on november past and full of pool tables plus barely anyone there. (Not much had changed since i was a regular over 20 years ago).

End of an era that.

I picked the young fella and his class mates up outside the BOT last year, it was after a school formal and there was absolutely no one about the place like there used to be.

I presume the Cathedral quarter has taken all that trade now.

Kremlin and Telegraph are the big spots down in town given their proximity to the student accommodation (and UU). Limelight and Hatfield still a big draw for freshers up the other end. The young fella and his mates also frequent Darragh's off York St. for cheap pints.

Will the charity be continuing ?
Yes, existing staff will continue to keep it going.

Quote from: playwiththewind1st on May 10, 2026, 09:07:40 PMI am very sorry; mea maxima culpa.

I will try not to describe the English electorate as "thick", in future.

Shall we go with "unsophisticated" maybe?
Anyone voting for Reform is a simple ****. No other way about it.
Not sure it's that simple. The system has failed. Labour aren't centre left anymore, the Tories aren't doing their thing. The vaccum had to be filled. Why not try something new?
Not that simple and it's exactly the sort of thinking that has got left-leaning parties elsewhere into real bother. The vote of a "simple ****" carries exactly the same weight as the vote of someone who thinks they know it all. People in working class constituencies in England feel there are very real concerns with immigration etc. and when that it reinforced by social media algorithms and local Reform candidates online or standing on their doorstep then it is almost inevitable that they will vote for the people the believe have the answers. 10 years ago Trump was considered a joke candidate but people voted for him as they believed he would sort out the stuff the left haven't the stomach for. Look how that turned out!

Tedious clichéd shite. If you like a show where every single soldier, cop and bad guy can't shoot straight but the hero never misses and he happens to have a bomb disposal truck in his garage this is for you.

Watching 30 Rock again as well, holds up well.
Watched a couple of episodes of Legends last night. Agree with your review - it's not The Wire but it shifts along nicely with a good cast and the soundtrack is a great blast from past.

I'm being anecdotal but if you've evidence I'd like to analyse it
Fair enough.

The generation behind you have it worse.

Don't give me 'they have mobile phones and X boxes'. They are much less likely to own a home, have a secure, pensionable job and get decent healthcare and a pension from the state.

Parents never owned their home, they had health care and a state pension, there is no actual evidence that the state pension will not be available or health care is going to end.

You are making stuff up, if it happens we can talk about it then.

I'm personally bored of people who live off the state who are complaining about life being hard..

Decisions are made, they are choices people make..

If you want to own a home it's within your capabilities to do so, was it easier years ago? Maybe, but owning a home doesn't define you, I still don't own 'my home'
Will I help my kids if I can? Yep but they can help themselves first
People making a lot of sweeping generalisations based on their own upbringing. I know you have said previously you grew up in Lower Falls. The majority of people on here would have no idea how tough that was in the 70s and 80s.

Quote from: playwiththewind1st on May 09, 2026, 04:37:46 PMAlternatively, the neoliberal economic system is working absolutely fine & as was intended all along. The billionaires, oligarchs, cartels & corporations have hoovered up & bought up all of the politicians. The politicians then award them all of the government contracts that are going. Start the odd war or 2, to keep the military/industrial complex happy. Everyone who matters does exceptionally well out of the deal. The only people getting excluded are the ordinary punters.

So the question is what are you being excluded from? As in the ordinary punters?

Is this a serious question ? Maybe you're fine and dandy but a huge (and increasing percentage) are not, far from it.
Poverty on the rise, housing crisis galore, wages sitting still for years for folk as prices for everything sky rocket, health a shit show, the absolute need for food banks for huge numbers in employment  etc etc
Have the people in Britain not noticed that snakeoil salesmen of the right haven't ridden to the rescue of the downtrodden white man in the US or anywhere else. What they have done is fill their own bank accounts and Farage and his ilk are no different. Voting for Reform is clearly a protest vote, but I'd rather have the Tories than that crowd! Starmer is a busted flush and needs to be gone before the next GE campaign starts. The only thing we say him get energised about in his tenure to date is setting up protection forces for Jews.
