QuoteSo Stacks are out, and Ardfert's amazing run comes to an end. Good win for Gaelteacht, but Shannon Rangers are muck.

Meant to post these results up yesterday but could not get near a PC.

Laune Rangers 2-8 v Mid Kerry 1-11
Jack O'Shea's son Aidan made a good appearance for Mid Kerry and they were unlucky not to beat the Rangers I hear. May not get the chance the next time.

Dingle 0-06 v South Kerry 1-15
Very one sided game with Ronan O'Connor, Paddy Curran, Ronan Hussey and Bryan Sheehan leading the scoring for South Kerry

Shannon Rangers 1-08 v Gaeltacht 4-15
too easy for An Ghaeltacht , Shannon have not produced good footballers in years.

Feale Rangers 0-13 v Ardfert 2-04
As AZ says their great championship run is over.
2005 Junior - Kerry, Munster and All Ireland Champions
2006 Intermadiate - Kerry, Munster and All Ireland Champions
2007 Senior - The step up to Senior is too much for them, but they will hold Senior status for next year.
Feale Rangers were led well by Noel Kennelly , PAul Galvin and Eamon Fitxmaurice.

St.Brendans 1-03 v Kerins O'Rahilly 2-14
St Brendans without their Ardfert players will not pose much of a threat to anyone, Rahilly's with last years minors David Moran and the Walsh brothers along with Declan Quill led the rout, will be a force in Kerry football in a few years time.

Austin Stack 0-08 - East Kerry 0-10
Shock of the round with Stacks big guns in Donaghy, Bohane and Kirby unable to raise the game.
Old bucks Seamus Moynihan and Donal Daly again to the fore for East kerry.

Kilcummin also won their game at the weekend over Kenmare, 0-16 to 1-11, While Dr Crokes beat their Killarney rivals Legion 1-16 to 0-09.

so the 1/4 finals will be made up of the following, draw not made yet:

South Kerry, Kerins O'Rahilly's, An Ghaeltacht, Dr Crokes, Kilcummin, Feale Rangers, East Kerry, and Laune Rangers or Mid kerry

Relegation Playoff 1
Rathmore 1-18 v 0-09 John Mitchels
So any suggestions on how Mitchells can be kept in the county championship for next year can be sent to The Pavillion, Austin Stack Park, Tralee, Co. Kerry.
They are a resourceful bunch in there but after losing 3 relegation playoff in 4 years they may finally have run out of ideas.
Quite simply they are not good eneough to be in the county championship today no matter how many titles they won in a row in the 60's.

Stacks defeat definately the shock of the round despite Donaghy played well when moved to midfield.
South Kerry still the team to beat but would love to see An Ghealtach have one last shot at it.

Kerry Mike

Mitchells have to go this year, its a joke, they have been playing up the "yerra we were great and have a great Tradition in Mitchels for years"

John Joe Sheehy would spin in his grave with the carry on.

They have been hammered for the last few years and will hopefully move down to Intermediate next year.

the Deel Rover - "to all the kerry lads out there just wondering would any of ye know how many championship matches pat spillane played for kerry and how would ye rate him in the list of great kerry footballers"

In an article in today's Kerry's Eye newspaper it states that Tomás O Sé's apperance for Kerry in the match against Waterford was his 50 Championship game for the Kingdom.  This makes him one of just 13 Kerryman to represent the county so frequently.  According to the same article Pat Spillane played 56 Championship games with the county.  Darragh O Sé is in second position with 63 games under his belt with Dan O' Keefe (Kerins O'Rahillys) at the top of the pile with 66 games.  This of course means that when Darragh O Sé walks onto the pitch for the final in September he will have represented our county more times than another Kerry footballer!!! ;) ;) 8)

Mike, I see you mentioned Jackos son lining out for Mid-Kerry, thought Jacko has been based in Leixlip for many years.
Just wondering if he has been sending the lad down to play with his club every weekend for years a la Declan Darcy with Leitrim

Stephenite I think (open to correction here) that Jacko's son moved down when he was 19 from Kildare. He is playing with Mid Kerry while Jacko's club were St Marys of Cahersiveen and he played with South Kerry. Not sure what he works at. Good footballer though.

in realation to  stephenite's question do many of that great team from the 70's and 80's have sons playing club football at the moment in Kerry and would any of them be good enough for the senior team or panel, there must be huge pressure on them allways been compared to their auld man.

To answer your questions, the ones I know of are:
Micko Dwyer - Karl won an All Star with Kildare
Tim Kennelly (RIP)  - sons Noel and Tadgh both have produced the goods at the highest level
Sean Walsh - sons Tommy and Barry John, minor stars for the future
Ogie Moran - son David Moran , minor last year
Charlie Nelligan son Dan is the Goalie with Kilmacud in Dublin I think
Jack O'Shea - son Alan O'Shea current senior player with Mid Kerry.
John Egan's son is an accomplished soccer player in Cork (dont know his name)
John Kennedy - son Eoin was a minor last year
Paidi's young lad is too young as is young Spillane , those poor lads will face some pressure from the sidelines

Cant think of any more of that team that have young lads playing.

Great draw - have a sneaky feeling that Crokes will do it this time.
Ghealtach nailed on I'd say - Tomas may remember his broken jaw from a few years ago against Listowel.
East Kerry and O'Rahillys to advance as well
=================================================================
The draw for the quarter-final of the Kerry SFC has pitted together some very interesting duels, not least the pairing of last years champions South Kerry and All-Ireland Club Championship finalists Dr Crokes.

The sides met in last years decider where South Kerry emerged victorious but, as they are a combination of club outfits, they were unable to take up their berth in the All-Ireland series and Dr Crokes reaped the dividends by advancing to the decider in which Crossmaglen prevailed after a replay.

An Ghaelthacht will be hot favourites to advance past Feale Rangers while Kerins O'Rahillys will have to wait until Mid Kerry and Laune Rangers play their replay before they find out what side they meet in the last eight.

The other quarter-final encounter sees Kilcummin looking to continue their rich vein of recent form against East Kerry.

Kerry Mike

There will be some skelping in the South Kerry v Crokes game, there was alot of nasty stuff that happened off field after last years county final and I am sure the South Kerry lads have stored away that for this year. Should be a great game with nothing much to call between the sides.

4 in a row was always goin to be tough to achieve for South Kerry but with Crokes providing a formidable quarter final obstacle it gets more difficult. Hopefully the lads from the South west will prevail.

An Ghaeltacht to beat Feale Rangers after a struggle and Rahillys and East Kerry also to advance I'd say.
Should make for an interesting championship run-in but alot will depend on the timing and when Kerry's run comes to a halt this year.

KERRY  GAA  SCENE                                                                  WILLIE O'CONNOR

It was a tough, hard fought and hugely competitive Bank Of Ireland Munster Senior Football Final at Fitzgerald Stadium, Killarney last Sunday. The wet weather we have been experiencing even cleared before the games to ensure that the big attendance got the maximum enjoyment. The game lived up to the pre-match predictions of a closely fought contest played as a typical derby encounter that makes Kerry and Cork Munster Finals so special.  Both teams gave it everything they had and the rival supporters were held in suspense right up to the final whistle.

The fact that we have now progressed to the All-Ireland quarterfinal on August 11th is excellent for team morale and with time on our side to make a strong challenge to retain our All-Ireland title much will be asked of the players in the lead up to the next obstacle.  We will not of course know our opponents until the quarterfinal draw is made after the Round 3 qualifiers have been played.  In that draw the four Provincial champions are on one side of the draw and they will be paired against one of the four qualifier winners.

In the minor final on Sunday our team were well beaten by an excellent Cork team. We are still in the All-Ireland series and will play in the All-Ireland quarterfinal.

AIB COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP

Now that there is break from intercounty games until August 11th the focus turns this weekend to the Round 3 replay between Mid Kerry and Laune Rangers in the AIB County Senior Football Championship. The game will be played once again at J.P. O'Sullivan Park, Killorglin and extra time will be played if necessary.

On the following weekend of July 15th the four quarterfinals, Dr. Crokes v South Kerry, East Kerry v Kilcummin, An Ghaeltacht v Feale Rangers and Kerins O'Rahillys v the replay winners.

COUNTY MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The remaining first round games, Laune Rangers v Mid Kerry, South Kerry v St. Brendan's at Con Keating Park, Cahersiveen, East Kerry v West Kerry at Spa and  Legion or Kenmare v Austin Stacks will be played on Tuesday July 10th at 7.30 p.m. Extra time will be played if necessary.  Last year's winners and runners up Kerins O'Rahillys and Dr. Crokes both have a bye into the quarterfinals.  The home team is responsible for phoning in the result immediately after the game finishes.

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The quarterfinal between St. Michael's/Foilmore and Castleisland Desmonds will be played on this Saturday at 8.00 p.m. Extra time will be played if necessary.  No date has been arranged for the remaining quarterfinal between Currow and Finuge due to the Lixnaw players on intercounty duty with the Kerry Senor Hurling team in the Christy Ring Cup.

NOVICE SHIELD

Clounmacon play Brosna in the quarterfinal of the Novice Shield on this Saturday at 7.30 p.m.  Extra time will be played if necessary.

CHRISTY RING CUP

On this Saturday at 3.00 p.m. at Austin Stack Park, Tralee the Kerry Senior Hurling team play Down in a vital Round 4 game in the league section of the Christy Ring Cup. After last Saturday's defeat against Meath at Páirc Tailtean, Navan, the team will have an uphill struggle to qualify for the knockout stages.  They will need to win their remaining two games, this Saturday at home to Down and away to Westmeath on the following Saturday.

ALL-IRELAND MINOR B & UNDER 21 B HURLING

Kerry play Meath in the quarterfinal of the All-Ireland Minor B Hurling Championship at 1.30 p.m. on this Saturday at Austin Stack Park, Tralee.

Kerry are due to play Armagh in the semi-final of the All-Ireland Under 21 B Hurling Championship on this Saturday but details of the fixture were not available at the time of writing.

COUNTY JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUES

The Credit Union County Junior Football Leagues have reached the knockout stages in most divisions. In Division 2 Austin Stacks defeated St. Mary's in a semi-final played last Friday and in Division 3 Dromid Pearses, Spa, and Lispole have reached the semi-final after last Friday's quarterfinals.  Legion play John Mitchels in the last of the quarterfinals in this division on this Friday night at 7.45 p.m.  Extra time will be played if necessary.

Knocknagoshel defeated St. Pat's in the Division 6 final played last Friday.

COUNTY LEAGUE

The Round 7 games of the Credit Union County Senior Football League will be played this weekend with games on Saturday at 8.00 p.m. and on Sunday at 2.30 p.m.  Ardfert defeated Rathmore in their game in this round which was brought forward to be played last Friday.  Some games in this round are postponed due to the County Championship replay between Laune Rangers and Mid Kerry and also the Intermediate Championhsip quarterfinal between St. Michael's/Foilmore and Castleisland Desmonds and the Novice Shield game between Brosna and Clounmacon.

MATCH REPORTS

Short match reports can be e-mailed to prokygaa@gofree.indigo.ie at any time on Sunday. CO. HURLING LEAGUES

The Round 3 games in Division 3 will be played on this Wednesday July 3rd with games in Division 3A and 3B all commencing at 8.00 p.m.

NEW YORK NEWS

The Kerry team lost to 4 Provinces of Philadelphia 2-13 to 1-10 in an excellent game of fair but hard fought football.  4 Provinces got off to a dream start when a wayward pass gifted them with a goal after just one minute of play.  Kerry fought back to draw level at 1-7 each at half time.

Early in the second half fate was against them when a flag happy umpire waved the flag after the Kerry goalkeeper was judged to be over the line after making a brilliant save.  Kerry protested vehemently that the ball was not even near the goal line but all to no avail.  The team continued to play their hearts out to the end. Also three of Kerry's better players were unable to lineout.

As a result of this defeat Kerry need to win all of their three remaining games to be certain of qualification for the semi-finals.

Kerry team: S. Clifford, Laune Rangers, A. Corbett, Firies, A. Riney, Sneem, T. Moriarty, C. Cronin, Spa, C. O'Sullivan, Skellig Rangers, C. Fearon, Armagh, D. Culloty, Na Gaeil, D.   The Kerry supporters included J. Mackessey, Brendan and Joan Henchey, Tarbert, Sean Healy, Kilgarvan, Tony Stack, T. Brassill, Tom Curtin, Tim Keating and his brother Maurice visiting from Ireland
