In Rounds 1 and 2 the Club and Divisions are grouped seperately, its the same SFC competition. Round 1 winners go forward to Rd 3, round 1 losers play off in Rd 2 but still seperate draws, winners going to rd 3.

Round 3 is an open draw of the winners in the club and divisional teams, in this case 9 club and 7 divisional teams.

Round 2 club losers play off to see who loses senior status the following year and drops to intermediate. Divisional round 2 losers cannot be relegated, as there is no other competition where a divisional team can play.

Its sounds complicated but actually works out well as players from a small club can play for their club in the junior, or intermediate championship while in the same year play for their division in the Senior Football championship, therefore you get the pick of the best players playing in the SFC.

Divisional team are made up of all clubs from intermadiate , Junior and Novice from that division, so for instance An Gaeltacht and Dingle are senior clubs so cannot play with West Kerry unless they are relegated. South Kerry are reigning champions going for 4 in a row made up of players from 9 clubs , however none of these are senior clubs.

Draw for the next round of the county championship:
Legion v Dr Crokes
Shannon rangers v An Gaeltacht
KOR v St. Brendans
Ardfert v Feale Rangers
Stacks v East Kerry
Mid Kerry v Laune Rangers
South Kerry v Milltown/Dingle - replay next weekend
Kenmare v Kilcummin.

Was at the St Keirns v Feale Rangers game on Saturday night - better team won.
Noel Kennelly scored 1-8 but was quite from general play.
Seamus Scanlon, Padraig Reidy and Mossy Lyons quite for Keirns and Ian Sommers went off after 5 minutes with a hamstring injury.

SuperDooperCooper

Draw for the Intermediate q/f.
Beaufort - v - Listowel Emmets
St. Mls/Foilmore - v - Castleisland Desmonds
Duagh - v - Annascaul
Finuge - v - Currow

Tough draw for Currow - Finuge will be out for blood after Currow beat them 2-10 to 0-4 earlier on in the county league.

Thanks SDC, Some good games there for the next round in prospect:

Legion v Dr Crokes
Expect a bit of Killarney skelping in this one I would say, Legion will put it up to their more illustrious town rivals but would expect the Crokes to have too much fire power.

Shannon Rangers v An Gaeltacht
Good draw for An Ghaeltacht and would expect them to come through with their strenght and experience.

KOR v St. Brendans
Rahillys should have the scoring forwards to put out Brendans fire.

Ardfert v Feale Rangers
Ardfert in their first year as senior will have a tough game overcoming the normally tough north Kerry men, good to see Noel Kennelly has the kicking boots back on again and they have Brendan Guiney and a few more to call on too. But Ardfert after their double All Ireland club wins will be no pushover, they have had a long unbroken run for over 3 years in all knockout competitions and if tiredness does not catch up on them will be hard beaten. I will however go for the Feale boys.

Stacks v East Kerry
Hard to call this one, Seamus Moynihan is playing well, but Stacks are always a tough team to beat and if Donaghy gets back to full fitness my money will be on them.

Mid Kerry v Laune Rangers
Local Mid kerry derby but you have to fancy the Killorglin lads given the scoring display they gave in the first round. But with Sean and Darren O'Sullivan the Mid kerry lads will put it up to the Rangers

South Kerry v Milltown/Dingle - replay next weekend
Not a bad draw for the champions and am happy enough with that, assuming we click into gear early we should have too much for either club, but you never know, it will be South Kerry's first run out this year under new management and Maurice Fitz will probably not feature this year.

Kenmare v Kilcummin.
Kenmare are the surprise outfit this year but would think Kilcummin will win through.

cheers kerry mike-always wondered how that worked.seems like a good idea-would there not be any problems between rival clubs all playing for a divisional side?would love to see something like that tried in tyrone

SuperDooperCooper

Divisional sides were always vulnerable at the start of the championship as the players would be mainly playing for their clubs with only challenge matches with the divisional side.
Generally club sides always won early round clashes with divisional sides so the county board came up the with present format
where by clubs play each other first and divisional sides players each other as well.
It served two purposed 1) Divisional sides get more game and 2) facilitates the relegation of a club from the senior championship.
Inter club rivalries are always present in divisional sides as a selector tries to get as many of his boys on the team as possible - similar to what happens on county teams I guess.
And when your divisional side gets knocked out (as mine did on Saturday night) the other clubs had way too many on..... ;D
I think it is a good principle as every player who is good enough, no matter what club they come from (novice, junior or intermediate) get to play in the Senior county championship.
Many players from small clubs got on the Kerry team through playing very well on divisional sides.

about the only think left to add is that if a divisional team wins the county title they do not go into the all ireland club championship. last year south kerry won the county title beating dr crokes in the final but dr crokes entered the ai club championship losing in the final on st patricks day to crossmaglen. the county champions also get to pick the kerry captain for the following year so this year it will probably be bryan sheehan from s kerry. just to really finish it of there are (i think) 7 divisions in kerry which run there own championships (not to be confused with divisional teams) as well and these are fairly intense local rivalries, i was at the north kerry championship final two years ago and there was about 3,000 people at it..

Kerry junior team named for Sunday.
Some very interesting players on the team but the biggest surprise is the last sub Noel Kennelly.
Michael O'Donoghue (Spa) was an excellent minor in '05 and Barry O Grady played with the Irish u-17 a few years back.
Alan O'Sullivan (Tuosist) played in the All-Ireland minor final of '04.
Fergus McAuliffe (Gneeveguilla) played on the first underdog team v the Dubs.
Would have loved to see Paddy Curran on this team.
Junior should be used to blood promising minors and u-21's.

Senior team along predictable lines, not a huge fan of Reidy I have to say, seems very loose any time I have seen him play, sure he'll be fine for this one though. Would rather Killian Young in the corner and Mossy Lyons on the wing. That man Lyons has gotten a raw deal with Kerry over the last couple of years! Shame that Guiney is gone, thought he was a very good player who was unlucky there were so many good backs about, thought this year was going to be his breakthrough year.

Thatll be the bones of our team for the summer I'd say though still a fabulous team there. Only other change would be Griffin for Quirke, Quirke a very solid operator but still not mobile enough for top level football
