Ridiculous??

As I said I don't believe Celtic do conduct their business that way. They couldnt possibly allow all players contracts to run down to such a level where they are free to negotiate with other clubs and/or hang on for free transfers.

I'm sure Celtic are the same as most other clubs and they seek to tie down players into new contracts the summer before their existing contracts are up.

And I agree that a reason why they didnt offer Miller a contract eariler was they were worried about his injury history. That's not much comfort to him though.

Benitez never said the FA were helping United with the fixture list.
He said Ferguson should stop moaning about the fixture list.

lost it in midfield mostly that year, and the successor was groomed and ready, but the little rat fecked off to man u
He was a world beater - how miller played on those few occasions was more than enough to prove to 50,000 season ticket holders and fans that he was the real deal.
he messed up himself by going to man u and not getting a game for two years - kind of fecks up any kind of continuity and momentum !

Whatever about how good he is or isn't, it was totally Celtic's own fault for letting him go. They didnt offer him a contract until it was far too late. You can't blame a lad for leaving when the club are dragging their heels so much about offering him a new deal.

doesnt matter when Celtic were making contract offers (they were using the same process for miller as all the players )
man u had tapped Miller up when a verbal agreement had more or less been already agreed with Celtic on millers contract renewal.
He then went back looking for a better deal as he knew what man u were offering, then he left
tapped up is the phrase. Celtic were not responsible for this. MON wasnt going to be held to ransom by anyone!
If that was the truth then I'd totally agree with you.

Celtic always refuse to negotiate and extend contracts until there is around 6 months to run?
I have no idea of the answer to that one, but any club who doesnt offer any player a new contract when there is less than 9 months to go on their contract, and who want to keep the player, is a very badly run club - and I can't believe Celtic are that badly run. Any well run club will start preliminary negotiations with players they want to keep when there's 18 months remaining, in the hope of concluding the deal when there's about 12 months left (assuming they want to keep the player of course)

If any club allows a players contract to get to less than 9 months, then frankly I would expect most players to wait a couple more months to get to the 6 month stage and see what else is on offer.

There was no verbal agreement with Miller when ManU came calling. Miller had been actively looking for a new contract for months and there was no offer on the table until after United started sniffing.

I really don't see how anyone could blame Miller for the choice he made in those circumstances.

I wasn't sure. I thought Mr Benitez cited this as an example of how the FA are helping United to win the league? I must have missed his comment on the refixture!
If you're trying to be equally inane, then you are succeeding  ;)

GAA Discussion / Re: Firewors at Croker - How?

Dammit. I was really hoping the fireworks would be on first.

Hector is hardly an enticement to get people out of the pubs and into the cold evening.

I would love to see the fireworks, but I can't see myself hanging around in the freezing cold and sitting through a video, no matter how iconic, when there is a lovely warm pub calling, in which there are friends I haven't seen in a while...

Interesting Dublin selection. An all new half forward line - a line that Pillar often struggled to get right and usually played two corner forwards and one half back. This time we've 3 proper half forwards (even if Henry has played as a defender for his intercounty career to date).

Glad to see Ross get a go at midfield.

On paper the full back line looks the weakest, and they are really being thrown into the Lions Den given the lads they'll likely be up against. Extraordinary how long its been since Dublin gave a full back a decent run in the full back position.

correct, Who was the first football transfer over £10m between English clubs?
Was that Heskey?
I hope not.

A possible problem with Croker for the semis. The National Hurling League finals are scheduled for the same weekend.

Though they may not be scheduled for Croker. Although whether the game is in Croker or not, the GAA would presumably fix the NHL finals so they wouldnt clash to avoid a decrease in attendances.

I don't believe for one second that Keane was not a Benitez signing.
Benitez simply wouldnt stand for it, and Liverpool wouldnt spend £20m on a player the manager didnt ask for.

The Chelsea/Shevchenko situation was totally different.

Quotebut would certainly be against using it for say Bohs to play a Champions League game in.

Why's that Hound?  As opposed to Munster -v- Leinster, why are the Phibsboro mob less worthy?
Just my views Billy. And in fairness "certainly be against" would be over-stating it, but my gut is No, and I'd need to be persuaded.

Its not beyond the bounds of possibility that Bohs (or whoever the champs are) could draw say AC Milan in a final qualifer for the CL knock out stages.  If we allowed them to use Croker it would enable them to really market the game and create a lot of interest in their club, thus giving them the opportunity to be a real rival/competitor to the GAA.

Whereas playing Munster v Leinster or internationals at Croker doesnt give them any more exposure than they would get be playing elsewhere.

There might be flaws in that logic! But its what comes to mind...

Name 6 players who played in the English Premiership but are no longer alive..

One of the Whitley brothers
Didn't hear of either of those lads dying?

Don't think Preece played for Derby in the premiership in 96/97. He was let go to Cambrigdge on a free a month into the season.

Any hints LL? What premiership clubs did they play with?

QuoteIreland v France will sell out easily. Their prices are a consequence of supply and demand, and in fact they could add another 10% and still sell out with ease. Maybe more.

You're actually wrong, both games are sold out because the clubs have had to had to buy the tickets up front but the clubs are struggling to get rid of their tickets at those prices so we might actually see plenty of empty seats in Croke Park for the French game.
Well apologies if I'm wrong.

I'm not in a rugby club and havent heard anything of a general sale or loads of tickets available. I'll certainly be surprised when I see the plenty of empty seats when the French run out.
