I'm going to harbour a guess that when the competition format was devised, they took into consideration that some players may not have the will/fitness for 5 rounds in 3 days, and maybe/also that this format makes it more possible for a weaker team to compete with a stronger team.

They should play 6 foursomes and four balls. Keep all players involved. Rahm and Garcia have been great but no support.

You forgot Fitzpatrick yet to get even half a point after 2 Ryder cups. Far too many passengers this year. Today Europe with a few more putts could have won about 5-3 to make it competitive tomorrow but didn't make it happen when it mattered

Harrington will have some sleepless nights when this is over. No doubting that the yanks have far more talent and would have won no matter what but some of the selections didn't help. Its starts with picking Poulter over Rose - what a disaster that has been. The system picked Westwood so there isn't much he could do about that but he could have played them less. Casey, westwood and poulter shouldn't have played yesterday at all.

Having said all that something like 6-6 is possible today. The pressure is off. Would be just like McIlroy to win now that it doesn't matter

Lowry should have got more games as well. He came up against arguably the strongest american this week in Finau. The quality of their match last night was something else. Birdies weren't winning holes and in fact only 3 holes were won in the whole 18. On Friday Finau was sinking every putt too.
