The difference in quality between provincial championships is distorting the argument I think. Some are box office (Ulster football, Munster hurling), whereas others are completely pointless and are actively suffocating the game (don't need to mention where). I for one would not want to see them abolished if it meant no ulster championship.
As a club and county supporter I like the split season.
Not going to pretend I know how players feel though so would be interesting to hear.

I will add I don't understand the too many games argument either. So what if a county team plays 6 games in 6 weekends or whatever, wouldn't this be standard at club level? It's not like teams are being asked to play multiple games a week. Is 1 game a week over a few months too much?

Celtic need to call out Beaton and his officiatating.  Very poor but not unexpected. A no penalty given to get them in the game. I knew he'd give them a gift of a penalty. Celtic need to call that out.

In saying that, Celtic being 2-0 up and 3-2 up in injury time and giving up the draw is poor.

Disappointing but league still in Celtic's hands. No more slip ups. Know what is at stake now in terms of winning all the games.

Just watched Simon Harris' inaugural leaders speech at FG Ard Fheis. Not one single word on a United Ireland.  Not one single mention of new constitutional arrangements.  Not one single utterance about the Irish Government preparing for reunification.

Not in the list of priorities for most people.

Really. Because it seems to dominate a huge share of the zeitgeist north and south.

They killed the golden goose with too many games in too short a time. Rem 2005 Tyrone replay against Down in the Marshes great game especially if you were a Down supporter! 2003 brilliant Ulster final went to a replay, Dublin-Meath epic 4 games in '91. Penalties are an aberration on Gaelic games, apeing soccer. People went to the replays.

The Tyrone- Armagh first game in 2005 got 60k.
The replay got 30k in a nearly two thirds empty Croke Park.
People did not go to the replays in anywhere near the same numbers.

Some of the best memories of playing were championship replays I was involved in, something special about them. 

I cant believe what I'm reading. For years people complained about replays because:
1) Expense involved for fans (grab all association!)
2) Fixture congestion (clubs not getting county players back, etc)

Now that we have a system in place that has been widely accepted across any amount of team sports for decades, people want to go back to the old way!!

Agreed. While a penalty shoot-out is exciting it's no way to end a gaelic match. 45s perhaps.

Why is this any different? I thought the main objection to penalties was that it wasn't fair to lose a game that way?
