First round of the Dublin senior football championship.

I saw the Oddysey and it is the best of Christopher Nolans movies imho. The three hours flew by.

It's not a patch on Oppenheimer or Inception.

Neither of those are a patch on Interstellar.

Memento would be top of my list of the Nolan movies I've watched and have seen all the main ones including the Oddysey a few weeks ago.

Don't follow any English football club however have followed the sport in general for decades although has become less and less with the sportswashing and how low risk boring tactics have become a way to success.

From my observations the sport is like a religion to it's supporters of a club with Anfield,Old Trafford etc their place of worship.

Lots of the English clubs have or had strong Irish connections and if your Dad, Brother or school friend was following an English club it was only natural to do the same.

As for the England national team who are for England and England only. That isn't comparable and loads of Irish people prefer to see any England national team or individual English sport stars whatever the sport fail than succeed.

The  more AI's  continue to be shared  around the  other  counties, the better.

This year, the 10 titles available were won by 10 different teams, the 4 league finals, the 4 provincial finals, the Tailteann and Sam. Plenty of teams with something to look back on, even Donegal and Down.

When Tommy Conroy came on ROD moved out the field and Foley stopped marking him Captain Obvious. 24 mins I believe and ROD did his damage after that.

ROD general influence on any contest is out the field.  That's another example of the poor defensive effort by Kerry, too many cooks on the sideline for them?

I don't understand this "under the radar" angle. Do you not watch National League football?

5 of Mayo's defence (along with 6 others who played in both) lined out in the 2025 NFL final.

12 of the 20 players used by Mayo last weekend played in a national league final 3 years ago.

10 of last weekend's matchday squad were in the 26 man panel for the 2021 Ai final

8 of last weekend's matchday squad were in the 26 man panel for the 2020 Ai final.

Stephen Coen too. He would have featured last weekend but for injury and he played in all the above.

They brought through a seam of quality players earlier this decade - Coyne, Hession, Callinan, McBrien, Carney, ROD - when the old guard were done. And they stayed competitive whilst waiting for those lads to mature into men.

Mayo have been hiding in plain sight for the past 5 years I reckon.

League stuff and knockout championship football aren't comparable, the only thing that could be compared looking back was Kerry's defending against Tyrone,Dublin and Mayo was as poor as it was against Donegal in the league final.  One Kerry poster on here thought Jason Foley whould mark Ryan O'Donoghue out of the game, instead O'Donoghue was Man of the match. The same Kerry poster hasn't posted since I wonder why?

Those stats are inflated by saying matchday squad instead of starting 15 which was much changed from the 2021 All-Ireland final

Mayo in their previous 4 championships was last 16,last 12 exits and hammered by Kerry,Dublin in All-Ireland Quarter-finals.  Mayo and their supporters can correct me if wrong,  7 or 8 of their starting 15 played in their first ever Croke Park championship match against Cork in this summers All-Ireland Quarter-final,  if that isn't the definition of coming in under the radar I don't know what is


After winning All-Ireland semi-final by 17 points the under radar stuff should have been over however Andy Moran played the media like a fiddle after that match asking a room of journalists did any of them really think Mayo would win the All Ireland final and he was greeted with silence.

Even though we have a more offensive based game All-Ireland finals are still won by the team that defends the best and the defensive work out of possession by Mayo forwards and midfielders was the stand out feature in them ending their 75 year famine.  Food for thought for teams with potential in what is sure to be another open championship in 2027.

That was a longer speech than Jack Coyne of Mayo last week 

Fermanagh goalkeeper poor however what is worse is scoring just 2 points and both tap over frees.

Love the song , but  still not got to Clare Island yet ffs. Am actually thinking of  heading for  a day or two before the summer is out

Would you recommend visiting?

Certainly recommend visting for a quiet,peaceful retreat with decent hiking trails

Clare Island song and lyrics inspired me and herself to visit the small island.

Green and Red will be ridiculously overplayed for the next year however Mayo lucky to have such a great Galway made anthem about them

To win just once another good song and you can't beat an underdog winning in any sport.

As for TheWobbler, old man yells at the cloud springs to mind.

P.S still no Bonnie Tyler added to the OP list? Frames/Glen Hansard should be added now also.

- Anthony Finnerty  blasting wide in 89
- McHale  (of all players) sent  off  was huge in 96
- Brogan  goal Hill 16 end in 2013, and COC tapping over the late  free
- Hennelly dropping ball, giving away the penalty in 2017?

But I think the two goals  in 2016  was whenever I really  thought they were jinxed.  Dublin were poor that day , only managed 1 point in first half I think .  Mayo better team and still couldn't put them  away.

Dublin couldn't have played any worse in that 2016 drawn final yet the narrative a decade later was Mayo was playing the greatest team ever and drawing with them was acceptable.

Loads of what ifs and and when you look back and see how Mayo left All-Ireland titles behind them.

Law of averages Mayo was eventually going to win it. Next question on Mayo is can they prove to be great team with this group of players that have average age of 24,with no baggage and win more All-Ireland titles?

The English media will be devastated with the departure of their darling.

Glen Hansard was a story teller with great presence on and off the stage. What he did for the homeless was to be admired.

The really sad part is he became a father a first time aged 52, a Son that will probably be too young to remember him now.

Funny McGeeney was saying on the OTB final special "there is no defending now its a shootout" ok so why not play that way.

Armagh the last two years have defended like defending doesn't matter and it's a fact that Mayo forwards on Sunday and other recent games have defended and tackled better than Armagh defenders. 

The one true remark from McGeeney said on that OTB final special is that every player would like to win the All-Ireland however you need to want to win it. 

Mayo after leaving a few All-Ireland titles behind especially 1996,2016 finally got a group together where everything fell into place and one little wobble aside they showed how much they wanted to win in the 2nd half.
