General discussion / Re: Car Problems!!

Quote from: Ethan Tremblay on Today at 03:24:49 PMThe main reason I got mine is for what has already been mentioned, too many cnuty drivers about doing daft things.  Almost on a weekly basis I will see some genuine dumb shit like reversing onto a main road or overtaking in stupid places.

Or a truck that decides to reverse across a level crossing!

This may be one of the longest lasting threads on Gaaboard.

Quote from: DaleCooper on November 09, 2025, 10:05:10 PMYup. Mass democracy is populism incarnate which is why every intelligent mind in history DESPISED it.

As Winston Churchill rephrased it
Many forms of Government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe. No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise. Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.

Quote from: Banks of the Bann on November 09, 2025, 11:44:28 AMPopulism is not confined to any particular side of the left-right divide.

Populism is inevitable, you have to get elected.
But there should be no toleration of falsehoods from any source.

Quote from: Wildweasel74 on November 08, 2025, 12:01:37 AMGerrymandering that a American republican be proud off!

Perhaps we in South Armagh should feel offended that NI did not want us, as the only other area on that map is uninhabited bog west of Castlederg.
On the other hand, the British wrote of the debt of the Freestate to be allowed keep us, which was 10s of thousands of pounds per head.

100 years ago, on 7 November 1925, the Morning Post newspaper published a forecast of the Irish Boundary Commission award.

Quote from: clonian on November 03, 2025, 03:27:01 PMWill Omagh be fit for a double header on Saturday evening? There's been a lot of rain over the last few weeks.

With it being the live RTE game would there be issues with extra time etc in the Intermediate game?

Saturday should be the driest day of the week, and there should only be showers on Friday, not enough to cause a problem even in Omagh!

Quote from: Milltown Row2 on November 04, 2025, 08:49:14 PMThis coming from a social migrant!

I've absolutely no problems with anyone trying to better themselves in a country that has better than their own, if they want to invent reasons for that then that's on border control to shift through.

Unless you have read every report or interviewed them personally then I'll take the word of those who have, rather than your ramblings

Immigration be it illegally or legally has been happened for hundreds of years and migration since time began

Some countries will give anyone a visa or citizenship, you being case and point so I wouldn't concern yourself too much

It is the volume of migration that is the problem. If migration is using up all the new housing supply then that is too much.

And that's the key, organising all the extras that come with that..

The government allowed it and haven't the means to fix it..

They can reduce the number until they have fixed it.

I know his war mongering was a source of great inspiration to them.

Cutting stuff.

Half an attempt at wit.

Quote from: imtommygunn on November 02, 2025, 10:13:26 PMWhat is the dup game with this Israel visit ? They blatantly knew the furore it would create. Are they trying to bring the assembly down?

Judging by the increased number of councillors and mla's (of all parties) doing photo opps in constituency I'd say an election is on the cards next year.

The giveaway is the number of political reps showing up in Gaa club social media comments who couldn't find the pitch with a Sat nav.

The current crop of politicians playbook is to spend until the money runs out, refuse to make any tough decisions on anything and then have a phoney principled row/decision in order to pull the house down until someone writes a cheque and/or pressure gets too great and they go back in.

Rinse and repeat.

There will be no more repeats, if Stormont collapses it will not come back. Rachel Reeves will say that the budget will be the same as the North-East of England and she'll tell Benn to start talks about the right time to have a border poll. You have to wonder why the DUP want this.

Hurling Discussion / Re: DJ Carey
November 03, 2025, 06:58:06 PM
The sentence is well deserved. However, I do not understand it. There are people that are never did anything for themselves but who attempt to leech off others from day 1. However, Carey was a person who could put in time to train and build toward something, he may have been talented but this was never easy.
Owing to his fame, he could have made an honest buck in sales, having ghost written articles in the paper etc. He got more from the fraud than from regular work, but he didn't get enough to retire in Brazil and jail was the inevitable and predictable outcome. Very strange.
