Laois GAA secretary Niall Handy has now confirmed that they had actively explored the possibility of staging both matches together on Sunday, May 24, but ultimately found it impossible due to logistical constraints.
In a message circulated to all clubs, Handy explained that the county board's preferred option had been a double header in Ruislip.
"I just want to clarify that it was Laois GAA's intention and willingness to play these games as a doubleheader on Sunday May 24 (as this was the initial date pencilled in for final round of Joe McDonagh Cup games)," he said.
"Unfortunately due to various attempts by our travel agent, this was found to be logistically impossible due to flight and accommodation availability, at such short notice, which may be somewhat explained by the fact that it is a Bank Holiday weekend in UK and also English Football League play-offs in Wembley on that weekend also."
The combination of the UK Bank Holiday weekend and the EFL Championship, League 1 and League 2 play-off finals at Wembley is expected to bring exceptionally high demand for flights and hotel accommodation across London, significantly complicating travel arrangements for teams, officials, and supporters alike.
While many supporters remain disappointed that the double header could not be delivered, Handy's explanation clarifies that the issue was not due to a lack of willingness on Laois GAA's part.
But rather the practical realities of organising travel and accommodation during one of the busiest weekends of the year in London.
