Its a possibility to be fair.

In Kildare football the second teams play in their own division called reserves, suppose they would have the population for it?

wonder would it be a good option here or is laois hurling pool too small for it? it would give clubs who's first team is PI or Intermediate a fair chance of wining silverware. it can be unfair when a second team is strong at the beginning of championship and gets slightly weaker as the championship goes on due to losing players to the first team.

Just putting it out there is all. thoughts?
I think the second teams should be kept in the same competition if you cant beat a second team do you really have an argument to say you should be senior

Quote from: Verbal on July 29, 2025, 03:43:29 PMI think you'd have to create a new competition (Premier Intermediate) as a start.
You couldn't drop teams 13-16 and bring up the intermediate winner.

What happened to the proposal from last year to reduce to 12 teams

Laois / Laois Premier IHC
August 06, 2025, 03:51:03 PM
Group A

   Team   Pts   P   W   L   D   F   A
1   Mountmellick   4   2   2   0   0   43   34
2   Camross GAA Club   2   2   1   1   0   49   32
3   Colt Shanahoe   2   2   1   1   0   28   47
4   Abbeyleix St Lazarians   0   2   0   2   0   32   39

Group B

#   Team   Pts   P   W   L   D   F   A
1   Ballyfin CLG   4   2   2   0   0   53   30
2   Clonaslee St Manmans   2   2   1   1   0   34   35
3   Rathdowney Errill   2   2   1   1   0   39   30
4   Clough Ballacolla   0   2   0   2   0   26   57

Here is how they stand after round 2 Mountmellick and Ballyfin are guaranteed a quarter final at least and could be favourites to reach the final, Mountmellick may be underdogs but could benefit from the bounce that comes with winning the intermediate last year.

By the looks of it there will be one less second team next year which would be no harm as having half of the second tier competition made of second teams isnt good for Laois hurling, that being said obviously if they are better than other teams they should be there.

Hurling Discussion / Hurling in weaker counties
May 26, 2025, 05:35:47 PM
Honestly my main query with the current structure is why is there a playoff if kerry win the joe mc how is that fair that after winning they still might not get into munster.
Also I think the connaught and ulster championships should be brought back for the weaker counties or maybe even allow Antrim or galway to enter a second team or a team from only from junior and intermediate clubs

Quote from: Riseagain on May 26, 2025, 05:26:21 PMPersonally I found this very suspicious and honestly think it was done to prevent uproar of a traditional leinster Championship side being relegated to the joe mcdonagh cup, the same happened after laois beat dublin in 2019 they increased the number of teams in the Leinster championship
You do have a very good point I think that the gaa are afraid that the structures would be questioned if the likes of Wexford were relegated.
