I'd question your sincerity here and believe much like FF and FG you have little compassion for what the Quinn family have actually gone through. They are just a vehicle for you to score political points which is an abhorrently cynical thing to do.

At the outset I had HH in mind for No. 1 and CC for No. 2.
After the 2 debates the positions are reversed.

Those cheerleaders for the blocking of Maria Steen can see their folly now - a limited choice election.
Maria Steen had the pedigree and the support to be a candidate - unfortunately her path was blocked.
She played a key role in successfully influencing NO votes in last year's referendums.
I might or might not have given her a No. 1 or No. 2 - I would have waited for debates before forming an opinion.
It seems that many people form their opinion of her based on hearsay and perceptions.

Judging the two debates so far just on debating skills Catherine Connolly was head and shoulders above the other two candidates. She is fairly unflappable. Maria Steen would have given her a run for her money.

Like a lot of people I don't understand why Jim Gavin would want to run for President.
It would be more in his line to follow Jarlath Burn's route to GAA Presidency.

Also, he's young enough to make a valuable contribution as a GAA intercounty manager.
He could follow the example of Micko and Mickey Harte and light a fire in one of the underachieving counties.

I've been an Indo reader all my life. Before the advent of local radio and RIP.ie it was where middle-Ireland published their death notices. When it went from broadsheet to tabloid some years ago I grumbled but nowadays I have the ePaper subscription. This also give access to Sunday World (North & South editions), Belfast Telegraph, Sunday Life (the bane of Jamie Bryson) plus a dozen regional papers.

The Sunday Independent comes in for much criticism on this board and I would agree with a lot of this criticism. I often chide myself for wasting my time after reading the Sunday Indo.
I do agree that a 2-page spread in the daily Indo over 5 days ranking the top GAA manager over past 50 is just a filler in the absence of more worthwhile GAA coverage. I just scan through the names listed – I wonder are there many who would actually read the pen pictures. The various podcasters can find plenty of GAA material to cover week in week out. Maybe the Indo might think about profiling each county's club championships over the course of the season.

Yes, these reporters earn their living as sports journalists. All the more reason why they should not be subjected to personalised UNFAIR criticism from anonymous sources. Mud sticks and such criticism can be very damaging to their reputation. How can they defend themselves in these situations ?

If people feel strongly enough let them write/email a letter to the editor - name and address must be provided but one can request that it not be published.

Bear in mind when making personalised criticisms of particular reporters that their names are on the articles whereas we don't post under our real names here.

Both Michael Healy-Rae and Noel Grealish have come out in favour of Heather Humphreys.

That's interesting given that there is a prospective candidate, Sean Kelly, and a declared candidate, Catherine Connolly in their respective constituencies. I wonder if it is out of genuine admiration for Heather Humphreys.

Heather Humphreys would get great support if she were to run. She would be the strongest Fine Gael candidate possible.

For what it's worth I'm not a fan of the arc and the 2-pointers.

I have not read through the AI-Final thread so some of my issues might already have been raised.

Kerry shot into a 9-point lead early in the game which gave them great impetus with the reverse for Donegal.

Very often the team with the wind in the first half or shooting into the more favourable goal has a marked advantage with the opposition having to play catch-up.

The 2-pointer distorts the scoring in a big way - Kerry's early 9-point lead was not a true reflection of the game at that stage.

The 40m arc disrupts the natural flow of the game with much of the attacking play going back and forth outside the arc.

Why do you always look to close down any debate around the rules of the GAA? Could you not try and debate some of the points like an intelligent person instead of piling in with insults about "whinging" and "scowls".

You have to just accept that there are those who can't resist pontificating on any and every subject.

I find it bewildering that posters should advocate a 3rd tier rather than focusing on the inequalities of the present 2-tier system.

I pointed out in previous posts that In last 3 years only one of six counties, Westmeath in 2024, advanced to the Sam Maguire Cup based on NFL position. This year both Offaly and Klldare were denied a place in Sam Maguire by Clare (Munster Finalists) and Down (2024 Tailteann Champions).

Should Kildare overcome Limerick tomorrow I hope  they don't find themselves relegated from Division 2 next year thus denying one of next year's Division 3 finalists a place in 2026 Sam Maguire Cup. Kildare would still qualify for Sam Maguire Cup as Tailteann Cup Champions.

Should Limerick win tomorrow and not qualify for NFL Division 3 Final next year then they could still deny a Division 3 finalist a place in 2026 Sam Maguire by qualifying for 2026 Munster Final.

So Sligo and Fermanagh (for example) could top Division 3 next year and gain promotion to Division 2. Yet one or both could be denied a place in Sam Maguire depending on the fortunes of Kildare and Limerick.

Rather than a 3rd Tier what is needed is fair play for current 2nd Tier teams. This year both Kildare and Offaly should have had the opportunity to play in Sam Maguire Cuo and benefitted from exposure to football at that level. Next year Down and Westmeath will play in Division 3 and, given their Sam Maguire experience, will have a marked advantage on the other Division 3 teams.

There are those who will just say that these other teams need to get their act together and others who lazily propose a 3rd tier. What is needed is an equitable system that guarantees Division 3 finalists a place in Sam Maguire Cup. The Provincial Championship route into Sam Maguire is the barrier to fairness.

Anyway good luck to Kildare and Limerick tomorrow – hopefully it will be onwards and upwards for the winners.

Regardless what happens against Cork next it's been some turnaround in a year by Tipperary. Last year they finished bottom in the Munster championship group without a win to their name.

Is it me though but is the standard gone to pot this year?

For me it was a hugely enjoyable game.
Far less of the short handpassing (and throwing) that was Limerick's boring signature play.

Whatever about the quality (it was good enough in my view) it ebbed and flowed with the winner in doubt until the end.

And the goals Tipp created and scored - far more entertaining than watching a team rack up 30 points.

I've always been a great fan of Kilkenny hurling but like last year against Clare they left this one behind.
But a Cork-Tipp final is a first and one to really look forward to.
