Quote from: Macraz on September 30, 2025, 10:18:00 AMRecent hurling match - time was almost up and free was awarded to team 1 point down.
Free was taken and hit post but ref blew whistle in error thinking ball had gone dead.
Referee gave a retake due to his error and team equalised to bring game to extra time and subsequently won.
Supporters and mentors on team who subsequently lost were calling for the ball to be thrown in on the 21.
Is there a specific rule in the GAA rule book on this or what was the correct course of action?

The correct decision here would have been a hop ball on the 21.
The ref can't give a retake of the free just because he made a mistake.

He's well within his rights to blow the whistle when he likes. Even with the ball hitting the post and he blew the whistle the game was over, end of.

Not sure why he felt the need to allow the free to be retaken, let along a throw ball on the 20 metre line.

My reading of it is that he blew the whistle because he taught the ball had gone dead. Not sure it was for full time. For full time, you're right, he can blow it whenever he likes but I don't think that's the case here.

On what grounds was Rathdowney/Errill's appeal upheld?

These games are lost in O'Moore Park. Need to be moved out to club grounds to generate a bit of atmosphere. We must be the only county who plays every championship game in the county ground.

Are all the games in O'Moore Park or are some of them in club venues?

Does anyone have the full senior fixtures for Round 1?

Quote from: Ballygowen on June 06, 2025, 09:17:04 AMNot just on here but a lot of people think Croke park pitch is bigger than any other pitch. The COE pitch where Laois train is approx. 600m2 larger than Croke park so the size of Croke park won't matter to the Laois lads. there no magical extra space in Croke park.

Laois to win by 5 plus. you heard it here first  ;)  ;D

The middle pitch in the COE is outstanding. A lovely pitch to hurl on.

From being strong favourites to win it out, we now find ourselves having to win a game we hardly ever win ie Carlow away just to survive in the competition. Shows how quickly these things can change.

Quote from: Hurling123 on May 17, 2025, 10:31:56 AMThis conversation seem to all heading  in the same manner .
It all about modern style quailty  coaching.  I seen to many clubs training using line drills it drives me mad! Is this how the game is played? All training  should  be game based?? I go back this year's minor hurling team .there was two groups that went for the gig. One had two good kilkenny  coaches  along with two laois senior  hurlers [ enda roweland and Aaron dunphy] yet laos cb picked a different bunch and we all got to see the consequences??.so I make the point that the good management teams here were refused the role.

Can you please tell me with these decisions how can things get better?

Is that the Aaron Dunphy that's on the senior panel. He'd never have had time to do it.

Quote from: Blueforever on February 25, 2025, 02:45:42 PMWell no wonder hurling and Football is at such a low ebb if the last post is anything to go by we will never solve a problem if we refuse to admit it exist looking at all the school results most of the Laois schools play in c and d competition our 2 biggest towns are a wasteland as regards Gaa can't for the life of me remember Mountmellick in a minor final Portlaoise won  minor footballfinal last year after many years and many year since the have won minor hurling as regards population Offaly have won both minor and under 20 hurling and Football within last 5 years because the got there under age structure right

That is a different thing to what I referred to. Our u20 and minor county teams are being funded and have a good team of people (most years) involved in the running and management of these teams. It is evident that there are huge issues with regarding to maximising and improving playing numbers and standards at udnerage level. Portlaoise is glaring and has been spoken to death on this forum over the years. Plenty of clubs need the benefit of good Gaelic development officers who can help and assist clubs to further improve coaching and getting the numbers into the club and staying interested in playing the game.

Are the U20 teams receiving extra funding?

Ok. I would have thought that you were entitled to one shot at knock out hurling.
Doing well/badly in the league stage would lead to a good/bad position in the knockout stages

Quote from: Verbal on February 26, 2025, 05:17:06 PMSee an article on Laois Today re the SHC.

" The new ten team competition will see the teams drawn into two groups of five but play against the teams in the other group – ensuring no 'bye' weeks and five rounds.

Following this, the bottom teams in each group will contest the relegation final.

Fourth place will be out, third and second will play quarter finals and the top team will progress to the semi finals."

If I am reading this correctly, the relegation final will be a repeat of a previous game?

Surely they should have made it that 4 in group A plays 5 in group A in a relegation semi?

Also, I presume that the top 3 in Group A end up being one side of the draw?

2nd in Group A v 3rd in Group A (Q/F).
Winner v 1st in Group A (S/F).

I have no clue of the relevant rules but I'd question the notion of fourth being out.

Surely every team is entitled to one knock out game. In a League/Championship style format, your first knockout game is decided by where you finish in the league table but I'm not sure you can be eliminated from a League/Championship after the league stage alone.
