Free was taken and hit post but ref blew whistle in error thinking ball had gone dead.
Referee gave a retake due to his error and team equalised to bring game to extra time and subsequently won.
Supporters and mentors on team who subsequently lost were calling for the ball to be thrown in on the 21.
Is there a specific rule in the GAA rule book on this or what was the correct course of action?
The correct decision here would have been a hop ball on the 21.
The ref can't give a retake of the free just because he made a mistake.
He's well within his rights to blow the whistle when he likes. Even with the ball hitting the post and he blew the whistle the game was over, end of.
Not sure why he felt the need to allow the free to be retaken, let along a throw ball on the 20 metre line.

Quote from: Ballygowen on June 06, 2025, 09:17:04 AMNot just on here but a lot of people think Croke park pitch is bigger than any other pitch. The COE pitch where Laois train is approx. 600m2 larger than Croke park so the size of Croke park won't matter to the Laois lads. there no magical extra space in Croke park.
Laois to win by 5 plus. you heard it here first![]()

Quote from: Hurling123 on May 17, 2025, 10:31:56 AMThis conversation seem to all heading in the same manner .
It all about modern style quailty coaching. I seen to many clubs training using line drills it drives me mad! Is this how the game is played? All training should be game based?? I go back this year's minor hurling team .there was two groups that went for the gig. One had two good kilkenny coaches along with two laois senior hurlers [ enda roweland and Aaron dunphy] yet laos cb picked a different bunch and we all got to see the consequences??.so I make the point that the good management teams here were refused the role.
Can you please tell me with these decisions how can things get better?

That is a different thing to what I referred to. Our u20 and minor county teams are being funded and have a good team of people (most years) involved in the running and management of these teams. It is evident that there are huge issues with regarding to maximising and improving playing numbers and standards at udnerage level. Portlaoise is glaring and has been spoken to death on this forum over the years. Plenty of clubs need the benefit of good Gaelic development officers who can help and assist clubs to further improve coaching and getting the numbers into the club and staying interested in playing the game.
Quote from: Verbal on February 26, 2025, 05:17:06 PMSee an article on Laois Today re the SHC.
" The new ten team competition will see the teams drawn into two groups of five but play against the teams in the other group – ensuring no 'bye' weeks and five rounds.
Following this, the bottom teams in each group will contest the relegation final.
Fourth place will be out, third and second will play quarter finals and the top team will progress to the semi finals."
If I am reading this correctly, the relegation final will be a repeat of a previous game?
Surely they should have made it that 4 in group A plays 5 in group A in a relegation semi?
Also, I presume that the top 3 in Group A end up being one side of the draw?
2nd in Group A v 3rd in Group A (Q/F).
Winner v 1st in Group A (S/F).
