Quote from: maddog on March 26, 2026, 01:21:30 PMSince when did a league final become something to be half arsed about? Would love Armagh to win a 2nd one if we were there.
Did Derry looking like world beaters in a brilliant game agains the Dubs in 24 devalue the league abit since both teams have been largely wofeul since? Maybe devalue isn't the right word but it shows theres no point being flying in March and nowhere to be seen come May/June/July.
I would have thought a highly competitive and entertaining league final would show that the players and management wanted to win a national title rather than devalued it. And as a supporter I certainly enjoyed and celebrated Derry's win.

Yeah they did at the time of course, I'm talking about the form of the 2 teams after it has maybe made teams wary of being flying at the end of March. I'd love Armagh to be in and win a league final.

If we win it'll be for 2 reasons (a) we went flat out and (b) Kerry didn't give a sh1te.
If we lose it'll be for 2 reaons (a) we didn't give a sh1te and (b) Kerry went flat out.

I'd love us to win a national title. As was mentioned above, most counties (including us) have won feck all and it'd be great for the lads to have that title to their name.

Kerry a good bit ahead of the pack though, so all yerra aside, I think the result will depend on how much they want to lay down a marker.

Not necessarily true
In theory
Armagh beat Donegal
And Kerry get Donegal in first qualifier

You would then have to balance the 2025 league winners going onto win the All-Ireland as suggesting the league is worth going for. I think GAA supporters put too much weight on individual results, and we like to revise our opinion to fit a narrative based on hindsight. I think with the relatively few games inter-county teams play we just aren't in a position to truly judge a team's form.
I also don't get how any team can be sent out without the aim of winning or going 'flat out' in a national final. If a player didn't try it would affect their chances of selection when the next game comes round.

Yup , its absolute nonsense teams are not putting their best foot forward when silverware is on the line.

Big display in such a game sticks in fans memories as well as MGMT

Donegsl 4/5 lads, don't have depth panel like Kerry.  Would fear for Donegal.

Have 50 double on Kerry and Meath l.

Also got Kerry at 7/2 to league and championship in January.

Any year Kerry won league under Jack O'Connor they have All Ireland that year. Can't see that changing with lack of completion to beat them.

Clifford tk run riot again

AustinPowers

Have Donegal named  a starting team?

Mulreany
McColgan
McCole
Gallagher
McHugh
McGonagle
Roarty
McFadden
McGee
Shane O'Donnell
Langan
Mogan
Conor O'Donnell
Murphy
Malone

Gallen, Moore, O'Baoill etc not named in squad.

Fairly inexperienced bench. He's named the strongest team he can from those listed. Of course that could change by throw in.

AustinPowers

Jimmys going for it then. Unless he  makes late changes

I think Donegal are going to beat Kerry on Sunday. Paudie Clifford did the damage in last years final but he's missing.

Have seen numerous people post something similar  but not seem to realise it's not just the players input that matters. A lot follows on from the manager's attitude, they deem how worthy the comp / game is, team selections, attitude in training & tactics all follow on from that. All management teams like to think they have another 20% in the tank from league to championship (even though they're training like race horses from November), also a wishful thinking mindset imo. So teams can go out into a league final with a good attitude and still give 100%, but they're not always giving the best version of themselves / their team.

Donegal won't beat Kerry with Murphy starting. Paudie a big loss though

It's either Murphy, Jamie Brennan or one of the new young lads.
