General discussion / Re: Premier League 2025-26
March 06, 2026, 12:07:57 PM
Looking at Manchester City remaining games I foresee them getting 18 points from those games giving them a season total of 78 points.

If my calculations are correct Arsenal will only need 12 points from their remaining nine games and they have Everton,Burnley,Bournemouth,Newcastle,Fulham to play at home.

Only two questions on Arsenal right now.  How many games to spare will they win this seasons Premier League title by? And how good of a Champion are they really?

Won't have the answer to the 2nd question until next season and the manner on how they defend their title, should they fall away as badly like Liverpool have this season then enough said.

Quote from: GoldCoastRossie on March 04, 2026, 04:48:21 PMWith no one wanting a league final maybe give the team that finished first in each division, a home final and allow the county to keep 80% of the gate or some other split and you might get a decent crowd at the game and a bit of local excitement.

Pretty sure I heard before that there is pretty decent money on offer for getting to the finals of the various divisions already. Don't have a Euro amount but definitely heard that it was lucrative enough from someone who would have been in-the-know.

Quote from: AustinPowers on March 04, 2026, 05:06:39 PMI think  the problem is  more  to do with potentially having  a championship match 7 days after a league final , rather than not wanting  to win the league at all.

Armagh and Tyrone play  in the preliminary round in Ulster . If either  qualified for  a league final ,  I wouldn't imagine they'd go like  mad to win it,  even if it was  in front of their own fans. The championship game (potentially) a week  later would be of more importance

Yeah only having a week's break to the first championship game is the big problem.

I think what will happen eventually is the preseasons will be scrapped and a minimum of 2 weeks will be allowed between the league final and championship.

One possibly off the wall idea is that any team who gets to a league final is exempt from playing in the preliminary round of a provincial championship the same year. If it happens that one of the 8 teams that reach  the league finals were drawn in the preliminary round previously, a new draw is conducted with the league finalists getting a bye beyond the preliminary round. Doubt it would have any hope of being implemented but it could add some spice to matters.

A minimum of 2 weeks is between the league final and championship this year so the theory of not wanting to win the league isn't the case compared to previous years.

Quote from: Blowitupref on March 04, 2026, 01:16:52 PMHome heating oil prices has gone out of control. Looks like I'll have to invest in a few hot water bottles and hope this current surge blows over

same thing happened when Russia invaded Ukraine in early 2022, a lot of people panic bought at the time but after a while the prices came down. thankfully we are coming into spring time so shouldn't need the heating on as much soon anyway.

Exactly what has happened.. Don't think I seen as many oil tankers out doing deliveries today than I ever have. People complain about the companies but supply and demand, lots of panic buying.

Like when people were going mad buying toilet roll at the start of COVID lockdown

Yes people tend to show how stupid they are when in panic mode.

Ah well, that's their good run ended. Doomed to 18 months without a win if turns out like Derry's trip!!

A good run that ended with a bang. looking at the match stats Derry 30 scores from 42 shots and a high volume of shots thanks to winning 20 of Cork's kick outs.

Derry slumber well and throughly over now, last two Ulster titles won and All-Ireland semi-final appearances came from playing their spring football in Division two so I can imagine players, management and supporters will be confident of repeating that this year.

On trips away Donegal are flying out to Portugal on Good Friday, April 3, while Kerry's trip begins three days later.  Whatever about Cork,Derry neither of those are unlikely to allow themselves to collapse after a training weekend away.

Good to see you back after you went missing after J70 schooled you a few weeks ago 😂

J70 a decent poster however schooling he wouldn't have the first clue about. Meanwhile I have regularly schooled your three accounts on here and wasn't "tricky" to do either   ;D

Donegal,Mayo,Kerry are the three sides aiming to reach a league final with two games to play.  Monaghan as good as gone, Armagh v Dublin a relegation decider and Roscommon,Galway will be happy once it's 100% known they have retained Division one status for 2027.

League final is scheduled for March 29th

Mayo's championship opener is April 11th against Division 4 london, no need or little chance of them easing off and trying to avoid a league final

Donegal championship opener is against Down on April 26th and Kerry play Clare on April 25th so both will be pleased to reach the final.

Donegal basically in the final already with two very winnable games to play and Kerry v Mayo to fare off in Tralee next.

Quote from: balladmaker on March 01, 2026, 02:56:44 PMHas a feeling of Div 2 is Armagh's destiny about it.  Concede too many goals and an inability to score goals is the story of this league so far.

Looks that way. Defensive issues are clear to see throughout this league campaign, same at the other end of field not clinical enough.  Dublin winning today no way helpful.

As much as some want to heap praise towards Jarlath for that his position is a figure head and it was those in HQ with actual power that rolled it out.

So the rule changes had nothing to do with Burns and were coming regardless of who was president??
Always in the pipeline regardless of president, Jarlath was your friendly face to promote it.

Quote from: marty34 on February 28, 2026, 01:07:16 PMDuffy pulled the motion...aided by Burns.

Vote should have went ahead.

When you see it's fronted by Mr Duffy you knew he wasn't going to allow any vote until he got his way, that's the same chap that tried for years to scrap the U21 football championship before finally succeeding.
