Been pondering about the now deceased BDO world championship.

I'm wondering if the reason why it managed to hold on for so long - despite being such an inferior product in terms of abilities and presentation - was because Phil Taylor dominated the PDO tournament for so long that it was refreshing to watch a darts tournament with an unpredictable outcome.

Certainly I remember seriously enjoying the McDanger and Burnett and Hankey tournaments.

Not sure if Taylor winning every year had much to do with it. BDO was free to air and had a bagful more viewers than the PDC because of that. Take Taylor out of the PDC and the standard was very similar in the 90s and early 00s. A lot of the players that transferred over to the PDC done from the BDO competed very well. And it's only in the last 5-10 years that the All Pally/Sky Sports thing has become so prevalent. The recent WDF finals which has replaced the BDO was poor though. Not sure where they get the players from.

But one thing I am certain of, is that if we ever get invaded by a hostile force, unless others get involved, we're going to be toast regardless.  It's the way it has and always will be for a nation our size

Ukraine has been invaded and is being supported by weapons from other countries.

The IRA got weapons from Libya and other countries.

We wouldn't be on our own.

Ireland would need at the very least to be able to fend off an initial invasion, which would mean being able to secure airports and military airfields. And hope the cavalry arrives thereafter.
