Who are the outstanding 23-30 year olds not on the panel at the minute? We seem very light and shorn of mature lads who are fully developed, Paul Donaghy springs immediately to mind

Quote from: HokeyPokey on April 18, 2024, 11:11:48 PMIt will be interesting to see if Mattie does play at 6. He could add real solidity there potentially if he is back to himself.

Really don't see how Matty starts at 6 unless as a sweeper and someone else picks up the marking job on a Cavan forward
I struggle to see how Matty starts at all to be honest having missed so much of the league

McKiernan has nailed 6 and will surely start there, its a dummy team, expect Aidan Clarke to start corner back

My prediction is Matty doesn't start and comes in off the bench for the second half or last 20mins depending on how its going, deployment also as required, could be middle third could be FF
This has aged pretty badly.........

Ah now quit nitpicking 😆

A dominant display by Matty, played with a heroic passion and serious class 👏

Very watchable, great contest, a Jimmy Smyth commentary would be the cherry on top for an armchair observer

I do feel for Liverpool, its clear as day they've been denied an amazing era of domestic success by City's financial doping

Quote from: Tones on April 19, 2024, 01:15:24 PMThe Preliminary Quarter Final is a balls too, no jeopardy, all about extra games, as you say probably TV rights, get beat in the first round of your Provincial Championship lose 2 matches in group stage and you could still be in a Preliminary Quarter Final , what a load of crap.

Prelim QF was conceived as a result of meaningless games in the final round of the Super 8, its to try and incentivise that final round of group games where the top 2 is already confirmed and bottom 2 is not

Nothing screams its fucked quite like Kerry playing the second tier of Hurling (Joe McDonagh) but aren't allowed to play in the Munster Championship. Long story short, 57 varieties

Quote from: SouthOfThe Bann on April 18, 2024, 09:49:33 AMAny of you see Declan Bogues iinterview on OTB?

McGuinness still holds a grudge with him and wouldn't speak to journalists at the Ulster launch unless he left.

12 years ago and still holding a grudge he doesnt sway from his principles McGuinness.

That's ridiculous. All he did was interview a guy and write a book. McGuinness would want to wise up, its bad enough he will be remembered as the guy who destroyed football for a decade but does he want to be remembered as a bitter dick too?

'Duty of care' Jim - what a f**king pedant

He's in there to do a job, and the job isn't to f**k off Unionists, the BBC have their radio friendly soundbites, PUL types can react how they like, tomorrow it'll be ancient history as the business of managing the biggest sporting organisation in the country continues, and the business of winning unification proceeds elsewhere

Sean Bean gave a stellar performance as a Trans-person in Accused, must give it a re-watch

Quote from: Mario on April 15, 2024, 04:22:42 PMPeople are writing off Down because they were brutal in the league final and not much better v a very depleted Antrim. I can't see them getting within 5 points of Armagh. Down are shite

Calling Glass a bottler - or words to that effect, following the Glen AIF loss and Derry AI semi final loss was uncalled for and extremely harsh.

Calling Mickey Harte 'that man' seems a lot more barbed than for simply taking on the Derry job, Joe's mother is a Tyrone man and he has a certain fondness for Tyrone that comes through occasionally, he's making the MH issue sound a lot more personal

Quote from: lurganblue on April 15, 2024, 09:03:27 AMI have to say Peter Drury wore me down a little yesterday. Repeatedly roaring "And Bakayo Saka" or "And Leandro Trossard" with every half chance. Maybe I should have put this in the gear grinding thread.  ;D

They're all so shouty nowadays. More noticeable on the highlights on ssn. Painful

Brian Moore - "it's up for grabs now" Anfield 89 and Jimmy Smyth - Down Derry 94 the best 2 commentators in my opinion, a joy to listen to and sorely missed

Latest podcast was a bit ott in terms of GAA exceptionalism, GAA has its share of fraud, spivs, spoofers, and wrong'uns - Joe's experience seems akin to Tom Cruise involvement in Scientology

And why so much hate for Micky Harte - referred to as 'that man' in the latest episode, a bit much
