General discussion / Badger Baiting
May 21, 2021, 09:26:31 AM
Programme on Nordie TV last night claiming that baiting is still quite a big thing in the North. I cannot recall the precise number of incidents (but it was shockingly high) but also a completely weird fact that 50% of the incidents are in County Down.

What they hell is going on?

Is this something people are involved in or are aware of?

Can't get my head around it

It's an idea Sid floated on the "RIP" thread. It's a runner.

We see today the hammerings big team can give smaller teams with the depth of their panel often a key factor.

Separately the very negative tactics that many mangers deploy involve packed defenses and asking the forwards to undertake a huge workload in terms of foraging up front or tracking back. This is in the full knowledge that the forwards will be subbed when spent.

There is also at times a flippant attitude in taking a black card for the team.

Restricting the number of subs to 3 could and probably would make inroads into this

There is a thread for (Division 2 survivors, provincial semi-finalists and victors over Armagh) Meath so why not us?

Apparently we don't have the players so what do we need to do to compete with counties that do have the players like Clare, Longford, Sligo, Tipperary, Laois, Limerick, Fermanagh, Carlow, Offaly & Leitrim?

Pope Frank apologies to gays for the church's treatment of them. The Catholic church declares it has no right to judge gay people.

The People's Unpopular Front of Poyntzpass going to form its own breakaway church now?

GAA Discussion / Armagh vs Laois
February 02, 2016, 11:51:53 AM
A must win game for Armagh. Laois might feel the same. A stong likelihood of the build up being dominated by the a rehearing of the nonsense of the recent meetings between these sides.

Laois normally have a decent midfield. We had no midfield against Meath. A key battle that will have to be addressed by Armagh management. As will the kick out strategy.

A few too many Armagh forwards think that running around and being busy will be the winning of the game. Time for a few of them to step up and take hold of a game. Time for the management to wake up to the need to have scoring forwards close to goal and a strategy for getting the ball to them before they are bottled up. Some positive signs in the first half in Navan but quickly snuffed out.

GAA Discussion / Sanitised Viewing
January 31, 2016, 09:53:49 PM
Was at 2 games over the weekend. A sending off in both games. Also an incident where a forward standing at the junction of the small square and the goal line is waiting for a ball coming straight down is just barged over the line before the ball arrives. Right beside the umpire and in full view of the referee. Officials did nothing.

Watched the highlights on RTE. Both games covered. No coverage of either sending off incidents. Are RTE kow towing to Pauric Duffy and Aoghan O'Fearghail complaints about Pundit complaining about the spectacle?

Are match day officials  to be protected and not have their glaring inadequacies exposed?

Whats going to happen here?

Travelling to Navan next Sunday. Have absolutely no idea whether we are travelling in hope, expectation or fear? Armagh's squad is better than many ouside Armagh would give it credit for but its hard to know if the whole thing will click.

GAA Discussion / Divers (and face holders)

Brolly called out JO'D in the first Kerry v Cork match for going to ground holding his face. More pundits should do this. Shields was an embarrassment last night. They should be held out for ridicule by the pundits on the live show and on TSG. Them McHugh boys would crop up a time or two making their aul fella a bit uncomfortable. How many McHugh's are there? On a windy day in Kilcar the streets must we strewn with McHughs who felt a a slight touch.

The game doesn't need this shyte. Embarrass the bejaysus out of them and they will soon quit.

Expecting this game to be hugely negative. Scores to come on the break. Poor viewing but ideal pre-championship test.
