Bit of collector's item that one. Is that an A grade/ seriously competed for competition?

I don't know how serious schools take it but it is A grade. St Pats got to the semi final of the Corn na nOg last year so they're not miles off. St Pats Cavan and St Pats Maghera would be the 2 big teams at that age.

That would be what was the old Brock Cup

Yes - it's the A grade for year 11s (4th years in old money)

Quote from: AustinPowers on March 03, 2026, 12:12:58 AMOil prices shooting up  like mad

Luckily I topped up  the  tank  to near full last week

I'd say the diesel and  petrol will be up as well

Topped up my tank last week 300 litres for 300€, checked today to see how much 300 litres is,  400€ and expected to rise further.  Middle East war with a clown of American president getting involved has played no small part in that.

500 litres  was £300, today it's reported to be £475 in  some places.

It will probably  only get higher

I got 600l for 366 last week - the same place was charging 622 for 600l yesterday

How did they work out that helped in the first place?

It might help us in the long term Casemiro going this season. They wouldn't strengthen the squad enough if he stayed on and the risk of him dropping off again is high if we're honest.

His playing his heart out for the last few games and getting us into European football next year will do for me.

The lack of cover for him is very concerning though - if one of that 3 in the middle gets injured things could get messy.

Quote from: Be even better on January 30, 2026, 01:23:04 PMAgree if everything you say there Johnny but blitzes must have started earlier as mind being in the Ards or other venues around 2009/2010 wi 6/8/10s?? The Eddie Irvine centre was good too but wild early start!!!

There was blitzes earlier than that alright, but were haphazard at best. You'd get an email the night before saying the host club had pulled out and could someone else host. It weren't great.

It was around the time I suggested that the Coaching and Development team under C O'Toole took on the first Saturday of the month ones with the clubs offering to host the 3rd Saturday of the month.
Back then the Red High was the normal base for the first Saturday one and there was normally one of the GDO's organising and on the ground.

TBH I'd like to see the GDO's take that role back up (even if the last one I saw in Clonduff 2 years ago hadn't a baldy what was going on) as they've gotten so big only clubs with at least 2 full size pitches could even think about hosting an All County blitz, I know we can't.

Good problems to have.

The Eddie Irvine indoor blitzes were a good start to the season and it was mostly the teams in the North of the county there with a lot of the Belfast (Antrim) clubs there made it a good mornings hurling. You could have hung beef in there it was that cold.

I think there was an attempt to get something similar up and running in Newry, not sure how successful that was.

There was a run of Sunday morning blitzes in the DKIT sports centre for a while. Mostly South Down with Armagh and Louth clubs there - I don't know if it's still on but the lads really enjoyed them at the time.

Clonian, can you share the schedule for juvenile hurling and football this season please?  We currently have no secretary and info is scarce on the ground!  ::)

I don't have the full confirmed schedule but as far as I know:

Sunday - U14 football & U16 hurling alternative weeks & reserve football
Monday - U16 football & senior hurling
Tuesday - Minor football
Wednesday - U12 football
Thursday - minor hurling
Friday - u14 hurling & senior football
Saturday - U8/U10s & Premier reserve football

U12 Hurling on a Saturday??

I'm not sure about it, hurling hasn't moved so I assume it's as it was - used to be Saturday afternoon? I know the LGFA and camogs have moved a few days around too but haven't seen a full master list.

General discussion / Re: The Steak Thread
January 26, 2026, 04:31:33 PM
If I'm out now I'd rarely get a steak but I'd go for a fillet or maybe t-bone if it's on the menu. Medium or medium rare and usually with garlic butter.

At home we'd go for a rib eye cooked medium on a pan but if the BBQ is going I'd go for a think cut sirloin.

Usually use a local butcher too. Got big sirloins a few weeks ago and as I picked them out the owner told me they were from my brothers cattle so you can't beat that.

Quote from: tiempo on January 22, 2026, 12:30:59 PMThis is where someone with an ounce of sense in the club should sit the player down map the season by games, cherry picking games that mean the most, then see what you can feasibly do training wise on a priority basis, then tell the mangers thats what they're getting. The examples of dual would be rare these days, but across the board managers looking their pound of flesh hugely off-putting and know plenty would would run players into the ground for their own ends, I remember lads doing Sigerson championship training sessions in the morning and club pre season sessions the same evening, as you say, amazed they all didn't break down, but some did and then everyone lost in the long run

Managers don't care for players.

They all want their pound of flesh unfortunately.

Players don't care for players either is what I find. Most players I've met have a genuine struggle accepting that a player who doesn't train directly with the team and as often as him and hard as him, might be considered above him in the pecking order.

Managers might enforce standards, but players demand them.
I would agree with that - other players would demand you trained with them all the time no matter what else was going on. I would've agreements with managers about training around Uni/school/county teams and there was senior players (who never played outside the club) would pressure you to get to train with them on top of everything else.

A strange time to announce it though.

Shows how fickle/clueless most football fans really are. 99% of people clamouring for him to be taken out the back and shot like Candy's dog.
There was a point last year where it looked like he didn't want to play any more but he got himself fit and he's been pretty good this year. They're a lot worse looking without him for sure
