Quote from: Splash on January 26, 2026, 07:16:41 PMI understand that that is a fair bit longer than your average post, and it probably won't be read.

But I hope that it can answer the Wobbler's question as to why hurling people are into hurling.  ;)

100%. He lost me after a couple of lines!!

Need to be more concise Mr Splash!

Quote from: thebigfullforward on December 13, 2025, 08:59:54 PMWho was the man in Kilcoo backroom team that got involved with McCarron that time towards the end? What was he at?

Won more at club & county level than Jack.
Can hold his own in any company.

Hard luck Kilcoo. Battled to the end as always.

Quote from: Truth hurts on August 04, 2025, 01:38:27 PMA huge game in Longstone on Friday night. Drumgath have the better players but the Stone will relish home advantage. The Mourne clubs are all struggling which I do not like to see as every successful Down team have always had a strong Mourne pick.

Drumgath have better players than the stone?

Interesting take!

Who would that be? Tally stays. Who's the armagh man?

Good chance it would be gavin mcgilly. I think he's armagh and he worked with tally at st marys in the sigerson. He's the current manager of their sigerson team.

That would be my guess

The hierarchy seem happy enough to get relegated rather than sacking Pete McGrath and his backroom team.

Who is in his backroom team?
In the past he has always had his nephew Pete Jnr in tow

Pete Junior seems to be charge.
Your man Spug from Lurgan is the lack of fitness coach.
The goalkeepers coach, I'm not sure who he is, could be some boy from Co Down, yet to see any goalkeeping improvement tho.
Never seen junior's name attached to much success over the years ...is this his first rodeo ?

No he's been following Pete about for years hence his nickname'the tail'!
Nice lad but looped!

Quote from: imtommygunn on June 07, 2025, 10:46:28 PMWhere would be the best place to find out the dates of upcoming coaching courses? I know one is on June 14th but can't make it so would be keen to see anything else coming up. I'm interested in the icgg ones (football or hurling).

They are usually in autumn or over the winter.
Clubs are notified about them & there will also be details on social media.

Or contact the games manager in the county board office.

Quote from: ck on May 29, 2025, 07:21:39 PMDown should have too much for Louth. In saying that I have been disappointed with Down under Laverty, they just havent made the progress I expected and are not really any further on from 2 years ago. I hope the next 2 weeks will prove me wrong though.

Down have beaten Donegal. Won the t cup. Beat monaghan in clones. Lost narrowly in drogheda and cavan. Not many teams get relegation on six points. May I ask have u attended many games this year? The progression is obvious. Seriously young squad. Hope you are going on Saturday.

Happy to be corrected and admittedly I've only seen Down once this year, twice tomorrow I hope.
Beating a mess of a Donegal team under Paddy Carr and Aidan O'Rourke is hardly a reference point, nor is winning the TCup. These would be regarded as fully expected. Relegation was not expected, but it happened and does not point to progress.
Our underage has not been competitive for years except for a few u20 teams that lavery took on.
We can't expect to progress quickly to the top table with such an uncompetitive underage structure. I don't see any better management options and in fact this one is doing well with the hand they have been dealt...

I expect Down to be up for louth tomorrow and I expect Louth to have real good go also given their defeat last week. I think we can do it..

Been as competitive as Armagh in juvenile ranks for past 20 years but that doesn't hold them back at senior level.

Is the Down County Board not the overall controller?

Down GAA (county board) have no control or input over the fixtures of the LGFA or Camogie Association.

They are totally separate bodies & separate sporting organisations.

They also do not oversee the IFA or Ulster Rugby fixtures to ensure there are no clashes! 😁

Integration is apparently on the way but I'd imagine there are a lot of hurdles to be overcome with this first.

Wow!
Highs & lows & highs again second half!

Plenty to work on but a win is great!

Will be plenty of questions for the management to sort amongst themselves over next few days.
