Tosh didn't need to say it tbh. I know Loughgiel ones who dislike Cushendall more than Dunloy so who knows what the fella's views are but I think he did a good job and good to see a ref so young doing a game of this magnitude.

He had a great game in the u21 final between to same clubs but Sunday wasn't his finest work. Modern GAA media in general are reluctant to criticise unpaid officials even when they deserve it so Tosh was a refreshing commentator from the norm.
If we are going to complement officiating when they are clearly making the wrong calls then there is no incentive for them to improve. Maybe PB will try another frontal shoulder now because the Ref didn't see anything wrong with it. Anyway cushendall deserved it on balance as they used the breeze better and we didn't take out goal chances so fair play to them.
There's a man with a mullet going mad with a mallet in Millets

Maybe he just didn't see the shoulder into the chest, maybe he seen it differently to you?

As has been said on numerous times he needs to see it from the correct angle, I blew for a free in a semi final for the same thing and when I reviewed it on tv later, he ho it was the wrong call. These things happen and not the winning or losing of the game as you have said.

Conditions will always bring about more difficulty in calls, did he lose his footing, was it an accidental slide in and so on.

In an ideal world the game could possibly been changed, I think Corrigan would have a better venue for the wind conditions, but the decision was made and organising somewhere else quickly is difficult, the likes of Corrigan has to get the council to approve and then the likes of parking and stewarding and so on isn't that easy on short notice

The Dunloy Loughgiel final the weather was atrocious, but both teams went out and did their best and no bleating afterwards

Quote from: left peg on October 21, 2024, 05:13:00 PMAccording to todays paper portaferry are in line to take Cushendals title. You men reckon they'd have a chance?

Portaferry are a better team this year than they were last year. They are strong in nearly every area of the pitch bar a few positions.

Bigger, stronger, and playing better hurling.

I would still have Cushendall as favourites, though.

If they win the semi final, I imagine they'll have learnt their lesson from last year and not give Portaferry an inch.

Although I hope I'm wrong, and another Ulster title comes back to Down. Portaferry very much give the impression they've been building to something more than a county championship.

Cushendall still strong favourites for the whole thing, I would say, but sure Portaferry will give it a lash and see how it goes.

Some win for Carey, extra time and penalties!

Was it a shock ? I would have had it fairly even

Carrickmore beat them narrowly so I imagine not a massive shock... I just didn't think they'd win that game.

Truthsayer

Very scrappy game with a lot of mistakes and wides. Neither side played to their best but closeness at the end made it exciting. Not dying bout a penalty shoot-out but is what it is. Carey Faughs brought some support with them and they enjoyed that win. Cheered to the max!

Slemishgael

Congratulations Carey and Rasharkin. Good wins for both clubs at the weekend - great to see.

2 great results, Carey game seemed real nip n tuck going by twitter. Great them getting over the line.

Hard to know with Rasharkin result were they that good or Tracey's that poor. Junior is hard to gauge I terms of what's coming out of each county. Zero clue what the Cavan team be like. When are the next games 2 weeks?

Saffron71

The Carey game is in 2 weeks.  I'd imagine Ulster council might try to play it as a double header with the Cushendall match.  Rasharkin play this weekend again,  and if they win then the final is the week after.  I think Sean Tracey's in fairness are quite poor.  They won the Armagh Junior title by beating Cuchullains reserves after a replay.  To put that into context.  Cuchullains seniors would have played in Antrim Div 3 in recent years where Rasharkin and then would have had fairly competitive encounters against one another.  As for the Cavan outfield it is hard to know what they will bring as have a fella Maher who was once part of the Kilkenny squad and a fella at FF Kenny who received a Champion 15 All Star this year.  I also wouldn't read too much into their demolition of Omagh as they and other Tyrone representatives at Junior tend to have a poor record at this level (Barring Naomh Colmcille in 2011).

You would assume Ballinascreen will be strong

Yea I think Ballinscreen will beat Ballela comfortably with a good bit to spare.  They would certainly be favourites for that grade I feel.
