So this kicks off on Saturday. How do we see this going? I think the geographical nature of the groups have left them very lopsided. I understand the reasons, but when you've a very strong North, and a weaker South then it looks a bit silly. Especially with inter county travel now allowed.
Anyway, I do expect Cavan and Derry, and Tipperary and maybe Offaly or potentially Limerick to come out top of each group, with Cavan and Tipperary to make promotion. They should both be too strong for this division.
Think I'm right in saying if Tipperary make it through it will mean no final, as if a Munster team makes the final, it won't be played as it'll be a week before their championship starts. Both teams awarded the league win and are promoted.

Really, that is a bit ridiculous. Given the small number of teams in Munster, surely this could have been avoided with a minimal amount of effort??

Yeah I hear you, but same last year sure. When tight on weeks which we clearly are, this is the easiest thing to cut. Promotion has already been confirmed for both teams which is the main thing. Championship is the be all, so I'd rather it starts than a league final which might not mean as much. Even though a trophy would be nice...
Anyway, I did get it wrong a bit. Tipperary are not out the next week so a Cavan Tipp final would go ahead. If Wicklow, Longford, Limerick and Offaly make the final then it won't happen. The link below has all the details.

Poor 1st half. V harsh red for cavan and as usual we make the game tougher than it needs to be.
Fantastic result for Limerick .
Fermanagh doing well first half from what is a very very inexperienced team.
Cavan red harsh was harsh enough but also very silly
Bad day for the Munster and Ulster champions. Well done to Limerick and Fermanagh.
That was some win .
Fair play to the Fermanagh lads.
Played some great football and Quigley was just sensational.
Great to have him back
The referee was just brutal.
The black card was ridiculous
Throws the whole division wide open
Good win from Fermanagh. Had their homework done, Gearoid given a huge amount of attention. Some of our debutants not up to the pace required. Must win now next weekend against Longford.
Fair play to Fermanagh. Quigley was very good. If Tomas Corrigan was there also, it would be a good handful for any team.
Cavan with a lot of poor errors.
Fermanagh fully deserved the win, really sloppy stuff from Cavan. I dint agree about young lads, for me few of older lads like faulkner and gunner were off the pace. Where did they find that eejit of a ref. Quigley got I'm guessing 4 points from balls brought forward, some about 20 meters. Cavan got 3 marks brought forward for I have no idea what. Mind boggling.
Very enjoyable second half. Fermanagh deserved the win.

Tipperay beaten by Limerick which throws the other side open. Though Tipperay needed extra time last year against Limerick in Munster..
They are without a few from that Munster winning team, O Riordan obviously back to AFl. Liam Casey the midfielder not available. Philly Ryan ex Dublin player playing with Tipp this year.
Tipperay should beat Wicklow, but Offaly will give them a good game too,. No guarantee Tipperary will get to the Semis.

Sledging? Congratulations on the win, better team.
Looks like he got the black for sledging, then Brady got the yellow for retaliation. Good decision by the ref.
Anyone know if it's score difference or head to head that puts a team through if two teams are on the same points?

Youd think at this age Gunner would learn not to react, his willingness to react to every little bit of niggle makes him a target for this sort of stuff.

Head to head for two teams on the same points. Scoring difference if 3 are level on points.

As a Monaghan man I know the ref only too well, a fussy letter of the law man. He gave my club 3 black cards in the 1st half of an innocuous league match a couple of years back but here's the thing if he's constantly moving frees, marks forward it'll be for yapping and back chat. Surely from a teams perspective if they've not copped on to this and learned to keep their mouth shut after the first couple of times they deserve all they get

He can fairly move it forward he near went from the middle of the field to the 45 with one free the other night.
Next weekends games are now critical. Cavan really need to do Longford over, while Mickey Graham famously puts very little stake on the league I am sure he realises that staying in Div 3 will not help the team progress. I would say that Derry and Fermanagh will be a tight affair.
Now that's a hammering .

In fairness Cavan significantly upped the intensity I'm the 2nd half. The penalty was clearly outside the box but then Cormac Reilly is the ref so it was given. Big worries over James Smith and Ciaran Brady both going off injured, probably our best two players in the 1st half.

Aye it was alright, but glad to get the games to be honest. We might appreciate RTER, TG$, and Sky more. You can tell the difference in production values to be fair. Little unfair on GAAGO considering the volume of games they are covering with not much. Happy it's on tv with no streaming issues too...
Cavan team named is very threadbare. Missing James Smith, Gerry Smith, Ciaran Brady, Thomas Galligan. Brian O'Connell making his Intercounty debut. Derry will be very confident of getting the job done here.
Cavan up against it with injuries, I am not confident today but the lads have the potential to lift it. Derry way ahead fitness wise however they managed that???
Way ahead Itchy.
Derry playing well here, Cavan beginning to get going here.
Cavan with a few lads visibly way off the pace. Clinging on a bit here.
Some of Derrys shooting under no pressure at all is very poor. Goal chance was on there for Cavan but opted to fist a point over the bar instead.
Goal now for Cavan, poor decision making by the Derry keeper.
Lucky to be in the game. If this is going to be a staring contest Derry will win, they have the attacking prowess. Cavan making a lot of errors in the final third, partly due to pressure exerted by Derry.

Hes an awful dick. Anyways its clear enough to me Derry are weeks ahead of Cavan in terms of fitness and despite them being clearly better than us on the day, much fitter and cavan missing 5 or so starters Derry just limped home. I dont see them doing anything in ulster.
Cavans result against Fermanagh cost them dearly.
I think from a cavan perspective the big worry is that none of our new lads look like they will add anything to what we already have. We would kill for a forward like McQuigan today. I think we will beca different team when we play Tyrone but it's looking like a stretch to me that with so many lads out injured that we will have enough by then to take Tyrone in Omagh.
The Fermanagh game was costly. But even going back to last year. The 2 games after lockdown were poor Kildare and Roscommon. Roscommon were promoted and came with a depleted team and beat Cavan.
Cavans best finishes seem to be half backs. Luke Fortune, Kiernan, Timoney, Ciaran Brady all good shooters.
McGovern I think will Be a good inside forward but he's still 18, not 19 until August. Needs to fill out
Good result in the end for us today
Started really well but the middle of the park was very poor for the 2nd and 3rd quarters.
Darren Gallagher ran the show and it took us far too long to bring the right men of the bench.
Ultan Kelm is a class act and we need him fit and playing for the whole game against Offaly.
Also we will hope that Eoin Donnelly recovers from his injury as he is a massive loss for us.
Quigley was outstanding again today
It was great to be back in Brewster today and to see a game in person. Hopefully we win the coin toss for home advantage .
All in all, considering our three top scorers from last year's league campaign didn't make themselves available for the county this year, Fermanagh have to be happy enough they are not in the relegation playoff.
We have steadied the ship and have a knockout game against Offaly to go up.
We have to be happy with that .

Derry v Limerick now at a neutral venue after both countries came to an agreement .
No word on the other semi final
Apparently where you finished has nothing to do with getting home venue
It's down to how many home games you got in the league stages.
As Fermanagh and Offally both played two home games, then it goes to a toss or both teams agree a venue.
If you only had one home game and you are paying a team who has had two home games, then you would have gotten a home semi final.
Derry and Limerick both had one home game each I think
Come on Cavan
A shock on the cards. Half time Cavan 0-7 Wicklow 1-5,
An embarrassing shit show here, team and management should be ashamed of themselves with the lack of respect they have shown wicklow. Prancing around the field like peacocks.
In fairness they would have beaten Donegal by even more last year had they 15 men on the pitch for the entire game.
Wicklow pull off the great escape. Hard to believe Cavan are relegated to Div 4.
Wicklow deserved it . A lot hungrier and only for poor shooting it could be have more. Mickey Graham done great winning Ulster but this is the 3rd relegation since he took over.

The Ulster win was one big performance on a soft ground in November with Donegal already thinking of Dublin.

Seanie Furlong was excellent at full forward for Wicklow. When he wasn't scoring he was creating. He's a very experienced player and showed his class. Cavan clueless going forward.
Another brutal performance under Graham. Wicklow fully deserved the win. Big questions to be asked now as to whether this management team are improving Cavan football. Results in Ulster have been great but performances have been patchy.

Yeah - should definitely be up by more. Limerick hanging in there, especially with the two goal chances saved.
Derry made hard enough work of that. Bit sloppy at times. But promotion was always the primary goal this year!
Bit of a nervy performance by Derry but given the goal for the year was promotion that's to be expected.
Div2 is where Derry need to be to develop further so job do e in that regard.
It has been great prep for the championship, and who knows we could cause a shock like Cavan did last year.
Still a work in progress but some serious progression this year which is great to see.
Fair play to Offally.
Fermanagh gave them a 6 point lead at half time, had their captain sent off and then decided to give them a game.
Fermanagh finished with their best team and it showed.
The three second half subs made a massive difference and maybe Ricey would be better starting these lads then leaving them until it's too late.

It just means a Div 4 team knocked them out of the last 2 ulster championships which is ironic as the last time Monaghan had any sort of run they got drawn against a hape of div4 teams.

Derry very accurate. Offaly not accurate.

I'd say it was a slight injury/knock given the way he walked off.
I'd say no risks are being taken given the Louth game is next weekend.
Derry's accuracy has dropped a bit but still doing better in terms of creating scoring chances.
Offaly with the goal in injury time badly needed.

I'd have given it as there didn't look to be any throwing action, it just looked like it came loose from his possession and rolled over the line.
Full time Derry 0-21 Offaly 1-6. One sided final, Derry look in good shape going into the Championship, their disallowed goal should have stood and could afford that penalty miss with the last kick of the game. Offaly and John Maughan will know that performance this evening won't be good enough to beat Louth next weekend.
Mad stuff at the end with the Offaly keeper being black-carded and McGuigan's penalty [the last kick of the game] being saved by Cunningham who went in goals because Offaly had no more subs to make.
Was an awful attempt from McGuigan.
Overall Derry really the better side and the 0-21 to 1-6 final scoreline could easily have been even worse for Offaly.
Chastening day in Croke Park for Offaly - will be a major achievement if they don't get relegated in next year's league.
Derry could spring a surprise against Donegal who looked unconvincing in the League without Murphy.
Gallagher will have a gameplan and it is the most interesting of the first round fixtures.

Was some point. Was a bit of silverware and a run out in Croke Park. Offaly gaining promotion was achievement in itself as said already they'll do well to avoid relegation next year. Derry should be aiming for promotion back to Div 1.

Few hundred euros a week can put a fair spring in some men's step!
