Can't quite understand why the GAA has upped their admission prices whenever people are already stretched with the extra heating and travelling costs over the past year or two. Can definately see a marked reduction in attendances this year as a result of the cost of living increases that we have seen. You'd have thought the GAA could have been more responsive? It may have actually brought them better revenue at the year end

Thinking of getting myself a new Desktop PC

Can anybody with a bit of knowledge of the market/technology recommend a good medium spec platform

Must have
Good video capability (output to tv when required)
Good audio capability (decent audio outs to an amp)

Apart from that I'm not fussy...I think

I've got some scanned images of old pictures that my old man would like restored/revived and then printed. There used to be someone on the board a couple of years ago who mentioned he was starting this or am I just imagining it?

Anyway..does anybody remember who this was or can they recommend anyone who is fairly handy at this?

I was hoping someone with knowledge of insurance companies could help me out.

Father in law passed away a few years ago, and their house insurance was always in his name but my mother in law has never changed the name on the insurance policy and has simply renewed it in her deceased husband's name. She now wants to claim on the insurance for some damage caused by last week's high winds. Should it be straight forward for her to claim or is there a possibility that the insurance company will deny her claim on the basis that the policy holder has been deceased prior to renewal of the policy?

If so, what "work arounds" would you suggest to ensure her claim goes through hassle free?

She wants me to help her out with making the claim. I just want to make sure I'm well armed with the right knowledge before I phone the broker.

Read Eamonn Sweeney in the Independent today. The main thrust of the piece was that it was his belief that Nicky Brennan should let the ordinary members of the GAA rule on the issue of grants to IC players (as was done with rule 21 and 42). Do you agree with him?

Looking to get new phone tariff deals for myself and the missus. Currently with orange

Wife uses about 2-3 Hours talk time and under 100 texts per month
I am under an hour a month talk time and about 30 texts a month

Information overload on the www has left me a bit confused as to what my best way of going about getting the best deal is

Can I get a group deal?
Is it easy to change providers?
Can we keep our old numbers?
Can I use one deal from say O2 to pressure orange into offering me something similar?
I see some online mobile phone companies offering free IPod/Xbox's with their deals. I take it you pay for these gimmicks in other ways?

Any advice appreciated

After being accused of being one of the hijackers of another thread by discussing this subject area, this well timed headline provides a good basis to discuss homosexuality in the priesthood. Now I'll admit at the outset that I'm an atheist, but the old catholic guilt still plays with the mind and as well as that I've children who need to go through a catholic education system so I'd like to be seen as a conscientious objector if you like. This headline suggests that I'm not the only one to see a lot of effeminate priests about the place who because they are living a lie cannot play a decent role in providing leadership to their flocks. Are those of you who would be more devout not concerned about the damage being done.

I have grown more and more frustrated by the growing number of members who seem to be unable to post anything more than a few words at a time. They like jumping into multiple threads and then post something that adds nothing whatsoever to the discussion rather than engage in debate. I.e Answer questions that have been posed before giving you own thoughts and maybe ask a few questions yourself where you can expect a reply to them. Of course there are times when one line is enough, but I think you know the type of posters I'm talking about

Is it not in everyones interests to resist these dumbing down attitudes and behaviors and encourage alternatives?

I see George Jones is suing Gerry Anderson for comments he made about him recently on his radio programme. All the newsprint I've read tells nothing about what was said. Can anybody tell us what was said?.........allegedly

Gerry's been sore on Jones for years and for good reason IMO. The guy just reeks of falseness to me and deserves what ever he gets.

Brennan backs county versus club clarification

GAA President Nickey Brennan has invited the wider membership of the Association to contribute to a debate on the "availability of county players to their clubs."

Brennan addressed his invitation to the thousands of supporters at the St. Patrick's Day club finals via the programme notes.

"During the coming months, we will be issuing a document dealing with the thorny issue of club and county fixtures," wrote Brennan, "including the availability of county players to their clubs.

"This document will outline many areas of concern and will set out a number of proposals for consideration by county boards and their clubs.

"Your views are important because the current situation, which is skewed in favour of county sides, is no longer tenable and some changes are essential."
