Both forward lines look like they could run up big scores but aren't. Tyrone should be happy enough they remain in the match and have potential to have a purple patch on kickouts to get a run on Kerry. But will they have any scorers to bring on to get enough to win this?

Bonfire material has only ever been removed with community consent, so the threat of violence is nothing new. Council's have very limited power to deal with them on private property. Doubt anyone had any real intention of having this one removed.

Quote from: jb77 on July 09, 2025, 11:13:38 PMThere's no way they dropped a man without having someone lined up, a 10 year old would have that amount of common sense
They didn't have anyone lined up last year when they dropped Harte. Hard on Tally due to the fiasco in appointing him and he bailed the county out when no one else was willing. They seemed to have worked out the new rules in the last few games and maybe with a chance to select his own squad could have had a good run at it. Against is no wins and the possibility you are loyal and end up Division 3.

Quote from: GTP on July 08, 2025, 04:49:10 AMDidn't know the IFC semi finalists got promoted, not sure that was a forward thinking idea.

What other options were there to going from 12 to 16, especially as league and championship were to be decoupled?
I get your point but to a certain extent getting to a semi final can be down to luck of the draw. Could have been 2 finalists and next best from the league. In a restructure you can do whatever you want.
Unless it is two down then some teams may not find their level in championship for a while.
14 teams seems competitive for senior but a structure might be hard from that without a league or group and they seem unpopular.

Sigurdsson was arrested then suspended. Partey is one of my children's favourite players so can't say I was comfortable knowing the allegations and him playing, but he wasn't charged and he isn't guilty until a trial so on balance Arsenal have acted properly.

Why are Drumsurn in senior championship? Have we not gone back to 16 Division 1 teams in senior? I have lost track.

They keep mentioning the wind on commentary didn't seem to affect Cavan's 2 point free. Some bad shooting from Kerry don't look like they are taking this seriously might keep the winning margin down.

Both in the square so OK.
Cavan look in big trouble.

Quote from: Smokin Joe on June 19, 2025, 09:12:23 PMThe player immediately takes the solo and go and you then either have to let him go so he is attacking on the front foot  a
Watched an underage match last night in which I believe the new rule was applied - player won a mark off the opposition kick out just over the 45 and was impeded. Previously a 2-point shot or 21m free, attacking team got free took the solo and go charged forward to edge of the arc got turned over and opposition broke to score a point.
If this happens during the rest of the inter county season the commentary will be that is a 3-point swing against team X. The rules may require a legitimate tidying up exercise, although I have doubts on this particular one, but fundamentally changing it mid-season and mid competition is not a good idea.

Quote from: statto on June 18, 2025, 09:19:55 AMDerry have alot of highly rated players in the middle 8 playing on Saturday, Doherty, Glass, McGrogan, McFaul etc how they got such a hammering on kickouts on Saturday would be a big worry along with their lack of a kicking game.
Derry have a lot of players who were highly rated when playing what was a very different game over the last few years. It may be their skill set is not as useful in the 2025 version of football. Or that the way we set up tactically meant they couldn't reach their best.
The team was certainly improving as the year went on and the form of individual players also appeared to be getting better, unfortunately that won't count for much in seven months time. Since the NFL title the results have been a disaster, signs that it was coming together should mean improvement next year though it is a pretty low baseline. One thing we definitely need to do is stop the rot and avoid slipping back to Division 3.

Quote from: GTP on June 17, 2025, 07:14:26 PM50n penalty gone for the midfield mark, will insread be a free, from a harsh punishment to an incentive to foul and slow the game down.

Can you still move it 13 meters though? As per old rule?

Asking for a friend...
No, you could bring it forward 50m then back out to the arc if you fancied that if the defender interfered with the solo and go free awarded for interfering with the midfield mark.
Maybe one of the refs on here can confirm they usually know everything...
I'd actually forgotten the solo and go existed when initially posting on the change, still can't see the benefit or how it encourages the high fielding everyone apparently loves to see.

The pitch in Newry looked very tight on Saturday during Derry, Dublin. Maybe Down posters know better and from limited viewing I wouldn't think that suits the way they play. Galway will overpower them and head west happy.
I can't see upsets in the other games with Dublin, Kerry and Donegal to head through.
If Down did go all the way I presume All Ireland champions do get automatic entry to the following year's competition?

Quote from: Norm-Peterson on June 15, 2025, 08:02:49 PMO'Donoghue stayed on the pitch to sign autographs even after the defeat. The same can't be said for some of the Derry players recently. It is easy to sign autographs when you are winning.
Shane McGuigan was getting photos taken with supporters after the end of yesterday's match. Didn't see him sign anything so I guess whatever point you are making is valid.
