People just have different outlooks now everywhere, their social and entertainment habits have totally changed.

In the 90s you went to pubs and nightclubs to meet, enjoy company of people and be entertained. A quiet night was renting a video/DVD or going cinema. Maybe you'd to go to pub to watch a game on Sky.

Now you sit on your couch have multiple conversations and group chats using a device in the palm of your hand. You can instantly watch anything on the TV or online. Sports of all sorts are beamed into the home. The can or bottle of wine is in the fridge if you want.

To be truly entertained you travel to big events, weekends overseas or exotic holidays. In the 90s you might plan a week in Santa Ponsa or Gran Canaria. The all Ireland winners went to the Canary Islands for their team holiday in early spring.

Young people are different now, it's Gyms, saunas, Tinder, Hyrox, Australia, Electric Picnic, Concerts and events. The trip to the pub or a nightclub is too ordinary for them to get excited about.

Casemiro looks a loss although he couldn't cope with midweek games. The over reliance on Fernandes might be putting him in the same bracket. Played full 90 on Thursday in a game they were cruising at HT, so boss will have to be a bit cuter with his use of him going forward. Simply put when he's on song so is the team.

A lot of complaints about the squad investment from fans, which the manager poured cold water on saying he was happy. So is he the man with the big plan or just naive. Or worse a yes man? He is an employee but ultimately he has to impress upon club hierarchy what the football needs and investment of the club are, and what players shouldn't be around. And part of that is not being afraid to rock the boat and speak your mind when talking about the squad. He'll be sussed out very quick otherwise.

Not sure him coming out and saying the players aren't good enough and we should have spent more in the summer will do anyone any good but you'd like to hope that behind the scenes he is saying they need more investment in several areas.

In the meantime, teams with a fraction of the resources available to Utd are showing the way.

The likes of Brentford, Brighton, Sunderland, Portsmouth all showing what can be done with a bit of coaching, structures and organisation.

Bredagh won the minor game last night, won by 6 in the end, we needed a goal from a 20 metre free in injury time to level it, Bredagh saved it, worked it up the field and got a goal right at the death.

A good enough game that took a while to get going with a low scoring first half only ignited by the Bredagh goal.

Our lads made a fight of it which is all we can ask, and best of luck to Bredagh going into Ulster.

This will be the last time we'll compete at this level for maybe 4 or 5 years, we just have really poor numbers for the next while. We lose 6 of a panel of 17, two others probably will pack it in and only 4 coming off a weak U14 team.

We may need to sanction players out to other clubs to get them hurling.

We can probably field at U16 as we've a decent crop of U12's on their way but there's a whole pile of difference in physical development in a 13 yo playing against a 15 or 16 yo.

The joys of being a rural club where there's been no housing built in 20 years and English fúckers are moving in for retirement homes....

Portaferry a good bet for Ulster Club?

It would be hard not to see Portaferry coming out of Down and that really pains me to type it, but it's theirs to lose.

Will they win Ulster?

They're trying to shore up their defence and have a new full back, with a bit of size, good in the air and quick enough over the ground. This allows them to move their best player in CT to wherever they believe they're under the most threat.

Maybe one more defender short, but overall they have been solid and the caveat there is that they haven't really been tested yet in Down.

Midfield up, they've good options with probably 8 to 10 lads able to do a job for them if needed and they can rotate them about.
I still think they're without someone able to win aerial ball up there when the pressure is on and their defence is under pressure and not able to get the low balls in that they need.

I'd give them a fair chance to beat whoever comes out of Antrim and they would have beaten the Johnnies if they'd have met last year.

To do two games in Ulster is tough, but not beyond them.
